A couple of notes regarding the soundtrack: - The inconsistent soundtrack types is intentional, as it is meant to represent the state the soundtrack was in the unedited version of this particular iteration of the game. I only replaced tracks which caused the soundtrack type to change between, say, Desert Dash act 1 and act 2. Final Fall is the sole exception to this simply because of how iconic the track used in 2007 is, although it isn't quite the same one, as this one has a more... _proper_ loop point. - I swear there's a South Island (OVA) motif in Desert Dash act 1's theme. It can't be a coincidence considering who you encounter at the end of the level, can it? - The Bonus Stage theme has a _unique_ ending to it, which is basically the last part of the Sonic Boom album version of the US Special Stage theme spliced into the game version. Otherwise, it's basically the same as the game version and doesn't warrant including in the video, but I am rather proud of how the edit itself came out regardless. - A couple of the tracks do have Mania soundtrack-esque names. The few that I came with are as follows: Final Fall Act 1: "Eve of the Divine Calamity", Final Fall Act 2: "Falling with style" and Furious Finale 2(Good ending path): "Sonic & Knuckles^2 / Sonic & Knuckles (to the power of) 2" (that last one makes sense when you think about it). I'm hesitant to give re-used tracks such as Peak Panic acts 1 & 2 alongside other reused tracks names, as the only reason the Furious Finale 2 (Good ending path) track got one because of it being in a gray area of sorts, with it being an original composition, albeit not one made specifically for the project. - The S monitor theme is also considered a gray area track, so its exclusion in the soundtrack video is understandable. The theme itself is the rather iconic prototype version of the Sonic CD invincibility track with the addition of the reversed symbol sound at the start, which was used in JP Sonic CD's title screen track, also right at the start. The track itself originates from the 2007 demo where it was used as the invincibility theme, but it was unused in the initial version of this iteration of the game, and the S-monitor was present in the globally available monitor line-up (as in every frame had them present), albeit with its functionality simply giving the player 50 rings and _not_ forcing them into their super state, so I just reprogrammed it to give Invincibility and Speed Shoes at the same time, just like the initial iteration of the monitor's function intended. Very few S monitors are present in the levels, and there is a reason for this. In the unedited version of this iteration of the game, there were a couple instances there was an invincibility monitor placed right next to a speed shoe monitor, so I decided to throw the S monitor in their place and save the player a little time, although there was *one* exception to this where there was a spot that required such dedication to climb that it was just _begging_ for me to put something special there, although it couldn't be a Special Ring though, so I settled for an S monitor and an extra life monitor instead. - I do intend on replacing Sunken Star's level theme when it gets done, _if_ it ever gets done. The Megamix-originating track was intended to a placeholder from the day I first implemented it, even if it kind of fits the track used for Furious Finale 1.

Act 2's theme is largely based off the Gravity Man midi found in the Sonic Forever engine test (which was labeled as "Chaos Central"), however the creator of said midi is unknown. The main reason I have for bringing that back was because of both the act 1 theme (a midislap of "R3-2: Under Magma" from Ristar) and the aforementioned act 2 theme sharing a similar intro.

@@Raiz136 In final fall act 2, after eggman launches the missiles I heard a short track that was reminiscent of sunset star act 3's opening, before it switched to the iconic 2007 demo music. Was it taken straight from SBTS or does this and sunset star share a sample?

Wait I have a question about this project, what was exactly sonic xg's story? The missiles in final fall and the death egg blow up angel island and the trio go through its pieces to defeat eggman? But why would he blow up angel island and where is the master emerald? Or is this a case like sonic triple trouble 16bit where its set on a new island?

Yeah, here's the thing... the 2007 / 2016 iteration of XG... basically didn't have any story outside of what was present in the 2007 demo, and even then, the demo's end cutscene was removed originally (I had to basically recreate it from scratch with only the assets to work with). The only plot point I was given from Joesph was that in the "bad" ending, after the "final boss against Metal Sonic" he "Sonic 2 Game Gear bad ending"'s Tails by dragging him underwater and letting the lack of oxygen to the rest. Sounds pretty weird and out of left field, right? So as a result, I basically kept what little story was there (Metal snatches the Master Emerald from Sonic & Tails & Angel Island gets destroyed by the death egg) and built from there. The Metal Sonic encountered in this game is a prototype for what would later go on to be perfected in Sonic CD and later Knuckles Chaotix. (S1 -> CD -> S2 does not apply here, y'see.) The Master Emerald gets taken to Chaos Central and then gets transported to Sunken Star (which is basically a WIP rebuilt Death Egg, similar in nature to the incomplete second Death Star central to Return of the Jedi) when Sonic and company arrive and are then stalled by Mecha Sonic (or Mecha Sonic MK2 if you want to go off of the slight name update Sonic Origins gave him). As for the setting of the game. Final Fall is the only zone that takes place on Angel Island, while the rest take place on a new island which is simply named "East Island". Although going through the hidden palace path for Knuckles does reveal a rather odd event where Metal Sonic has the Chaos Emeralds orbiting him before he flies off. This originally didn't mean anything, but now is a way to show that Metal is the one who made Angel Island split into 5 pieces using the emerald's power prior to them being forced back into the Special Dimension. It certainly makes more sense than mere missiles doing so... *somehow*. While I am aware that missiles can indeed be that destructive, I feel that Metal Sonic has a more believable precedent for being capable of doing so. As a bonus, this explanation is a little more in character for Eggman, as going off of how he simply set a particular part of Angel Island aflame in S3&K's Angel Island act 2 (assuming he actually did that and it wasn't just an automated function of Flying Battery and its pilots) doesn't really imply that he'd really desire to do _that much_ damage to a land that he could otherwise industrialize and improve to fit his own agenda. The only precedent that says otherwise is him trying to nuke Station Square in SA1, but that was at a... _later_ point in his character development, one that one guess that he was starting to take Sonic and company much more seriously from that point on. Metal Sonic on the other hand is his own thing, thinks his own way while still being obedient to his master, he doesn't care what he'll have to do to do that. Cosmic Chasm, it uh... exists. It is home to "a gem that can turns ones dreams and desires into reality", the Mirage Beryl, which is a side-focus of XG Classic. East Island is said to hold a "gateway" to the dimension somewhere, and Eggman sets his goal on finding the moment he gets there (Peak Panic -> Palm Paradiso), but upon his defeat and return to reality, he retreats to his base at Chaos Central, and then retreats further to Sunken Star. While Eggman was unaware of the Master Emerald's existence until the Death Egg crashes onto Angel Island for the second time after the events of Launch Base (said weapon's relaunch being all that he presumably cared about prior to that point), he is already aware of the supposed gateway existing (but not its location) and that is why he has the goal of seeking it out for the first half of XG Classic. Fang is here because Eggman called for his help during Doomsday, the "Final Weapon" _is_ primarily a getaway craft after all. That's... that's it. That's all that really needs to be said about him. Most importantly, none of this is applicable to New!XG. Not the name of the Cosmic Chasm gem (Mirage Beryl), not the name of the setting for 80 - 90% of the game (East Island); it is all its own thing, written in a way to make it at least _somewhat_ coherent.

I think Sean Evans / Lone is the one who made the music for Wood Works, as well as Desert Dash Act 1, Palm Paradiso and Cyber City because those tracks sound a lot like the music they made for Sonic Galactic (another Sonic fan game currently in development), but I'm just guessing. These tracks are all from the fangame, Sonic Aurora.

What you're looking for is the Sonic & Knuckles theme from the Virtual Sonic album, both SRB2 and XG made use of it at one point. Although in XG's case it only sampled a specific part.

It's... a little complicated. "Classic" (the project that aims to finish the 2007 - 2016 itteration of XG) currently has development _paused_ *but not cancelled.* XG, or "New!XG" as I've dubbed it, is still in development.
