This was their signature song. They sang it thousands of times and as you commented..this is the beginning.

They sang it at the very end of all their "Sonny & Cher" shows in the early 70s.

Sonny worked with Phil Spector a lot, and Sonny wrote "Needles and pins" for Jackie DeShannon...Cher also sang backup vocals for various artist that Phil Spector produced (before Sonny and Cher) and the story is told that they kept telling Cher she was singing "too loud" and to "tone it down", this is when Phil Spector noticed what "a deep unique voice" Cher had, so he started having her sing for him and then Sonny and Cher first became "Caesar and Cleo" with their hit song "Baby don't Go", then they changed their name to "Sonny and Cher" and released "I Got you Babe"...

Sonny knew what Cher had. Cher has always given Sonny his due. I remember seeing them singing this, dressed like this and yes, in black and white. I feel so old! Thank you JK & Harri! I saw Cher in concert....best show ever!

The song “I Got You Babe” was written and produced by Sonny Bono, who was also a songwriter and record producer for Phil Spector

@@HarriBestReactions After looking into this, I feel pretty confident Sonny Bono did produce 'I got you babe' as there is no reference to Phil Spector on the original 45rpm single. I did notice that other singles Phil Spector did produce he is named as producer on those singles.

This was their first single from their first album, "Look At Us" from 1965. It was Number 1 in the US, the UK and Canada. It sold 1 million copies and went gold. It was a defining recording of the early Hippy counter cultural movement and has been used in many TV shows and Movies. Great instrumentation and vocals made this delightful couple a big hit. Your right Harri, Sonny was working with Phil Spector at the time. Clever.❤ Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and JKClark. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Harri, please please...I beg you!...find the video of them doing this song on David Letterman show. They were much older and married to others but you could see the love between them...especially when Sonny began to get choked up. The interview prior to them Singing was really, really well done. You really got to see Chers personality, shall we say? David badgerd them into singing the song. It's a classic video and still gets tons of watches. If you'll tell me how to pay you, I'll send you money to go watch this or do a reaction on it. It's that good.

Harri, the Phil Specter observation of yours is quite astute. Sonny was a protégé of Phil Specter and Phil taught him a lot about recording and production. This song was written and produced by Sonny but I do not doubt that Phil influenced it somehow. Directly in the studio or at least in spirit. Some background- Sonny worked as a delivery person for a butcher / deli in Los Angeles. Phil's studio often ordered food and sandwiches from them, and Phil and Sonny became friends. Phil eventually took Sonny under his wings, and let him assist and work in Phil's studio. The rest, one might say, is history.
@freakiestshayms10 ай бұрын
Sonny and Cher met in '62, when she was 16. Sonny was Phil Specter's assistant at the time. By '71, they had the Sonny and Cher show, and this was sung as the show opened.

I grew up with Sonny & Cher's music & their TV show. Sonny wrote their hits in the 60's including "Baby Don't Go", "I Got You Babe", "The Beat Goes On" & "Little Man". He also wrote the song "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" which Cher recorded in 1966. Cher went on to have a big solo career.

FYI…Sonny started as Phil Spectors assistant with the idea that he would record Cher. Phil used Sonny and Cher as background on the Ronnets and Righteous Brothers but he would not record Cher as a solo…so Sonny learned and left and recorded he and Cher. At that time they had 5 top 10 hits on the charts at one time…and yes, they were married♥️

Backed by the L.A. studio band the Wrecking Crew, who were behind so many huge hits of the 1960s and early 1970s. The original B-side of the 7-inch (45 rpm) single is also a good tune, "It's Gonna Rain."
