Sonny's Yellow Post Adventure to #7

Күн бұрынSonny, Sam, Rich, and the Feebs, decided to head through Big Bear, to the San Bernardino Mountains to find Yellow Post Site #7.
The Yellow Post Adventures are a series of local overlanding trips we will take to show the local Southern California residents amazing campsites and gear.
We ventured around the San Bernadino area a bit, not being a straight shot to the #7 site, but what an amazing couple of days we had!

We drove out through Holcomb Valley and it was pure snow and ice and many ice puddles.

There are tons of yellow post sites throughout the big bear area. Right now the weather should be perfect! Have fun! 🙃

Great video! I actually just got home from a night at YP 33 in my Rav4. I've stayed at many of the yellow posts in Big Bear, but never been to #7. thats next on my list now!

Hi Justin, i have a Rav 4 as well and have done YP 33 but always curious on other YP sites that are AWD friendly w limited ground clearance, let me know what others u like or maybe we can privately find a way to message if u dont wanna blow up the locations publicly. Thanks!

Nice view shots.. are these Yellow post campsite walk in? Are they free?

They're all free. We pay for all the state and federal parks annually. You can also get the adventure passes and whatnot.

Looks like the roads are gonna be closed up there for awhile now due to weather. Make sure you check with the forest service before you trek out there. The memo I read indicated some serious fines if you get caught. FYI

Curious, are those fines for 'trespassing' or if you get stuck the recovery finas are high?

@@sonnysoverlandadventures453 Well it’s a general closure for most of the Big Bear area. My interpretation of it is that it’s closed period until further notice and if you get caught driving there, you’ll incur hefty fines. I should explain if I didn’t before that I’m referring to the forest service roads not the general surface streets but IN09 and the like are closed not to mention several out near Idywild.

Just found your video and I'm headed up this Saturday! I have a AWD RAV4, with those roads, you think it'll be difficult to get to Site #7? And would #33 be a good backup if I can't get to 7? Thanks!

I feel like you’ll be okay with an AWD again the main road to #7 is pretty mild except for the last .25 - but you should be fine. Only thing is there is a big storm right now. May be a lot more snow than when we went, Bring chains!!! 7 is easier to get to than 33, the road to #33 didn’t look maintained to us.

Depending on your tires, given the recent storm, you may want chains, even with the AWD system. It should be absolutely beautiful though! #33 is also a great option and less driving, but the trails were already ice when we went and it comes down to tires. Summer tires, regardless of system, would not work.

@@richardeggers I ended up at site #33! Road was actually fine in my AWD Rav4 with All-Season tires (I put my car on trail mode). I didn't even check out #5. When I called the ranger on the Friday I went, only 5, 33, and 31 were able to be remotely driven to and even they advised me not to try driving to those sites but I was completely fine. Mind you, I'm from Washington and driving in snow is super familiar to me. Every other site apparently was hike to only due to road closures. I'd definitely consider giving the rangers a call for updates just in case though! I'm sure things have changed since I went last weekend.

@@richardeggers I brought chains just in case but didn't end up needing them. Was going to attempt YP Site #7 but was told it's hike in only. It seemed like there were loads of other dispersed campers (not at a YP site) on the road up to the site. I was one of the lucky few who were able to lock it in. I'm assuming they tried to get a YP site but saw they were occupied so decided to just pull on the side of the road in their 4x4.

Guys, what’s the width like, are there any super narrow sections that an F150 would scratch the sides up on?

A F150 would have no problem on any of these trails. have fun!

@@sonnysoverlandadventures453 Yes I don’t wanna scratch up the new Tremor. One thing I miss getting rid of my Jeep 392 is the narrower trail access. Thanks for the info

there totally was! Sam works from home and she was able to take a few work calls from YP#7.
