Came across your channel by chance. Am home automation 'new' but found your presentation compelling and honest. Really appreciated the interplay between your intended use and the actual experience. I belueve that the role of a critic is not to just 'sell' or 'describe' a product (i.e. promote) but to let each viewer decide for themselves whether it is for them. Will be watching your media as I take my automation journey......(now, how do I subscribe?) Well done!

Thanks Andre, that is exactly my approach. I have a scenario that I want to solve, and then comment on the device from that perspective. I never "sell" anything, but just tell the story from my perspective to put it into context. Thanks so much for watching and welcome ☺️

Always nice to see sonoff products I have tested a few in the past before changing everything to one brand also did you get sorted with a dual or quad controller for the water shed

No, I stuck with my current water controllers and sensors for now.

Nice Video Lars. I would just use an old Android phone and maybe 3dPrint a case for it. Of course it wont have zigbee, but really if you need a streamdeck it matters not if it is wifi or zigbee. There is tons of ways for home assistant to send hotkeys to your recording pc/ obs.

Yeah, I am with you. This was a device I was _hoping_ would be a shortcut, but wasn't. I might just buy a Stream Deck.... 😂

Hello Lars, thanks for sharing your experience with SONOFF NSPanel PRO. What would you suggest of Trademark Panel to control the LED lights ? I need to mount a Touchscreen Panel no bigger than 3,5" diagonal. Thank you for your suggestions 🙂 Greetings Mark

@LarsKlintTech 7 ай бұрын
Hi Mark. Good question. I am not familiar with the Trademark Panel, so not entirely sure. Depending on how much you want to do yourself, you can build these relatively cheap as well. That way you can control what is on the screen to a larger extend and it would be much easier to configure Home Assistant (if you use that?)

Hello @@LarsKlintTech thank you for your reply. I would like only to control the LED lights. Building myself it could be challenging because you need programming the graphic symbols too. It would be great finding a finished product onto the market, do you have any suggestions ? Thank you Lars

@@mcricca1 I am not sure to be honest. It depends on your existing setup, budget, wireless technology, wiring and more. Tricky one to answer.

Thank you for that excellent summary. I had to buy mine and it's a bit disappointing. Sonoff WiFi devices are great but my Sonoff zigbee devices have been dropping off the "mesh". The range of zigbee is limited so you need more zigbee devices to act as routers to form a "mesh" (I wish you good luck with that ! ). The only reason for me to try zigbee was to be able to see some Sonoff SNZB-02D temperature / humidity devices (very happy with those) and the NSPanel-Pro is great for that but other than that I think that I'll stick to WiFi - longer range and more reliable.
@LarsKlintTech

I am a big fan of Zigbee, and if you build up a mesh network it is super reliable, because devices just connect to another mesh point if needed. I set up Philips Hue outdoor lights, which all act as Zigbee mesh nodes, and then temp sensors, light sensors, buttons etc. connect to those lights. They don't take up IP addresses on my network, and they use a LOT less power compared to Wifi devices. As always, do what works for you, and thanks for watching 😊

I bought some Sonoff ZBMini-L2's thinking that they would mesh but discovered in the small print that they are ZED's. I had read that all 220/240v devices acted as routers (ZR's) for battery powered ZED's. I have ordered some Sonoff ZBMini's now in the hope that they will mesh the SNZB-02D's to the NSPanel Pro. I also have a SNZB-02D in a campervan but I'm going to use a zigbee bridge to WiFi to get a better range. Anyway, thanks again for the video. PS - any ideas on an Ap that shows how the "mesh" has formed ?@@LarsKlintTech

@@grahamgodden6574 I have a Zigbee Router/Repeater from TubesZB (can't link here unfortunately), which might help you out too. Cheap and long range. I use the Conbee II Zigbee hub, which comes with an app called deConz that shows the entire mesh.

Thank you very much for the suggestion, I have found it on the internet and it looks much like the Sonoff USB dongle. Do you know if it works with Sonoff devices as I believe that not all manufacturers comply to exactly the same zigbee standards. I did buy a Sonoff USB dongle which was advertised as "pre-flashed as router" but they supplied it unflashed so it was still a coordinator. I managed to flash it from a Chromebook but could not get to the settings without delving into more "tools" that I don't use.@@LarsKlintTech

Thanks for the suggestion. Currently sold out ! Which seems to indicate a gap in the market. Do you know if it works with Sonoff as not all manufacturers comply to same zigbee standard. Sonoff have a USB dongle but it has to be flashed to change from coordinator to router mode. I managed to flash it using a Chromebook but I don't use the utilities necessary to get to the settings.@@LarsKlintTech

Just get a stream deck 😂 … US$149 .. yeah it’s a bit pricy - but no faffing around, it just works, you can set up all sorts of stuff on it - I do like my one! From lights to web page shortcuts to a sound board - it’s awesome 😊

I thought I have read somewhere that people have been able to flash some new fw to that panel and have been able to load custom HA dashboards to the screen...
@kwanizac
@kwanizac 10 ай бұрын
Yeh it's possible using tasmota etc but pretty involved as you need jumper cables and the lot.
@LarsKlintTech
@LarsKlintTech 10 ай бұрын
@@kwanizac I have seen some reports of flashing new firmware, and as you say, it is very involved. I was hoping to use it more or less as is with HA, and be able to configure _something_ that had to do with HA.
@LarsKlintTech
@LarsKlintTech 10 ай бұрын
Yes, you _can_ but the point was to use it as is. If you are going to reflash it, why not get a much cheaper screen that already runs Tasmota or something?
@jerseyman99
@jerseyman99 10 ай бұрын
I think you are all getting a bit confused with the NSPanel. The NSPanel Pro, as you stated is, an Android Device, Tasmota is for ESP devices. No flashing is required to use HA but some side loading is needed.
@BlindGuyNAR
@BlindGuyNAR 10 ай бұрын
You can basically take over the device. Not by chg fw, but by sort of jailbreaking it and sideloading apps to claim it as your own. It is a real pain! I’ve done one. It isn’t for beginners!

FYI unifi protect does support rtsp. You get the rtsps stream address and remove everything post of and including the ? At end of the address Chg the port from 7441 to 7447 and lastly remove the s from rtsps to only be rtsp. Bam there is your rtsp stream.
@LarsKlintTech

@@LarsKlintTech This is a typical Ubiquiti thing. Most things are neat and easy, but some stuff is just dumb. This is an example of dumb. In the Protect GUI there is not a single notion about rtsp, but on their community forums they themselves explain how to do this.
@LarsKlintTech
@LarsKlintTech 10 ай бұрын
@@basscheutjens6612 There is usually a reason for these decisions, and I don't think UBNT is alone in this. In this case, perhaps using RTSP isn't best practices, so making it harder to find and do means that more people will use the better protocol.
@basscheutjens6612
@basscheutjens6612 10 ай бұрын
@@LarsKlintTech I agree, that would be sensible. However, if that is the case, why would they automatically enable the old and insecure protocol when you turn on rtsps? With this explanation you just access the rtsp stream, which is possible because it is also enabled by enabling the rtsps feed. So if this is about moving people to the more secure protocol, they shouldn't be enabling less secure protocols without even notifying the user

Thanks for the feedback. The channel is my journey though. If you get value from it, fantastic! However, I do explain things in context of my experience and my farm. Every video is like that. Having said that, I do indeed explain what the perceived purpose of the device is, but this is a subjective approach otherwise videos become bland and mechanical, which no one wants. Could you please let me know where you get the stats for my audience too? I'd love to see those too.
