Sorry if I missed this in the video, but can they be closed / opened manually or do you always need to use the remote control?

Yes just pull on the blind to engage the motor

@@notenoughtech Does it mean if you pull it gently in one direction, the motor starts moving in that direction?

fantastic. I was just about to start redesigning my own curtain solution (stepper motor+custom pcb running esphome). Might just pick this up instead.

If you get a nice stepper (more expensive) you could make it even more quiet as the chain movement alone is relatively silent
@danedwards_ee

@@notenoughtech my own design used a bit of cord, it was completely silent, you only heard the curtains open on the rollers.

To be honest I knew they were planning on new stuff as I always try adding new Zigbee Stuff using them first and knew there were new icons in the app for things that didn’t exist. When you’ve been doing your blinds/curtains have you ever needed a solution for cables without beads? The people before me installed curtains that shut with a cord (loop). You basically pull one way to open and the other way to shut. Also I have one blind that is controlled by cords on both sides. I’ve already automated the blinds I can, although there is a roof light in the kitchen I might be able to bodge this into. The problem is the window is nearly horizontal and there is no power supply nearby, although it gets lots of sun, which is why Is like to install a blind. It’s also so high it is out of reach so an automation would be good. Will need to think. Shame they are so expansive as it’d be quite easy with two. The beads thing is really annoying though. I asked the manufacturer of my current blind motors for help with buying the beads just to stick on myself, but they were not helpful. Ps. What voltage is the photoelectric panel? Possible I already have a panel.

Oh yes, that's always a good way of being on the look out for the new devices! I think running something like this using a cord would be possible but tricky, slippage could affect positioning and the errors would compound. In that case, I'd be tempted to use home sensors to aid the cord.

Where these not supposed to be attached to the back side of the curtains out of sight? Can you not reverse the motors and then mount the units on the opposite ends but ont he back side of your curtain bar? That would let you hide the control units behind the excess curtain pleats out of sight for a more elegant solution. I don't see why you need to have the motor mounts visible.

In theory maybe, but your placement would be heavily influenced by how your rod or rail is supported or attached to the wall. Another thing to avoid is the contact of the chainlink with anything else but soft fabrics - it will make a massive racket otherwise.

Thanks for the vid! From your experience, would you consider it possible to install them other way around, so the not so pretty bead-chain and stuff would be behind the curtains, instead on top of them?

As long as you leave some space near the driver so the chani and curtain being doesn't cause the trouble I don't think it should be a problem

In comparison, the zemismart curtain rail is the one running mostly silently compared to sonoff, switchbot?
@notenoughtech
@notenoughtech Жыл бұрын
It's a magnitude quieter. I can hear other solutions from another room, but I can't hear the motorised rail from other rooms. It's quiet enough that you should settle to the noise in 1-2 days and it won't wake you up. Bedroom is the only room I'd recommend paying extra for silent operations.

Thanks for the video. Are sonoff products can communicate with tuya ZigBee hubs?

It depends on the product - usually chances are pretty good

I wonder how well they do with heavier curtains and/or less smooth rods. I've tried the switchbot devices but they were horribly unreliable for me so I had to return them. I'm currently in the process of getting the Aqara C2 installed but this would have been a far easier solution

The page claims up to 8KG - that's a lot of curtains and they do have the torque for sure. I think they would fair well as long as you can forgive it the looks :)

I don't take a stand based on a brand. I try to test each product in its own merit and find things that were done well and things that you should be mindful when making a decision. There are sonoff practices that I dislike (like launch of unfinished sonoff na panel pro which was shambles) and stuff I think was done well like ihost device. But ultimately it's down to a viewer to develop an opinion. If my facts leave you undecided its most like the won't suit your needs and should be considered if there are no other alternatives in same category or price range. Hope this clarifies a little bit my stance

Would this work with grommet style curtains on a rod? The itead website says “curtain rod not supported” however you seem to have managed to make it work on a rod.
@notenoughtech
@notenoughtech Жыл бұрын
It probably would. The only problem are the curtains when folded. If your holes are far apart, they would push the chainlink away when folded.
@jtso23
@jtso23 Жыл бұрын
@@notenoughtech Gotcha. I think I can make it work. It looks like the box mount is adjustable and can sit higher on the rod so that the chainlink hovers above the fabric and doesn't touch the fabric at all.
