This big room looks similar to my setup - on my right side of tv there is an open kitchen so the walls are not evenly placed. Did you encounter any out of place sound on one side. Also do the rear speakers have to be in exactly same distance or can they differ - like with Sony HT-A9? All in all thank you for the great comparison. Currently in my country Samaung is over 2 times cheaper than the Sonos setup ( in fact Sonos arc alone cost the same as the whole Samaung set) so it is kinda easy to choose between those 2.

Sonos is just expensive, imagine having to spend an arm and a leg with each part. They have even increased their prices. They love to milk people of money. Always on backorder. I don’t want to support that kind of company, even if I had the money to buy. I saw one person who purchased an arc, two five speakers, two subs. I could just imagine how much he spent on it, also if he bought other sonos products, the price would be over the roof.

I hear a lot of people say they don’t like how they charge for each item. The way I look at is they allow you to make the setup you want rather than other companies that box everything together and don’t give you options. I much prefer to customise what I’m buy and yes it’s much more expensive than other brands but their products are made super well and sound awesome not to mention the software is best in class. In any category of product you’ll get the cheap and expensive brands… Sonos has chosen the expensive route and have put of lot of money into making their products best-in-class.

Small note from an Aussie. In Australia the Samsung Q950A currently runs you $1,399 brand new. Subs, rear's and all. (This is all in AUD by the way) Meanwhile the Sonos Arc itself is $1,499, while the sub is an additional $1,099, add the Sonos One SL (Let's use the 2nd gen price rather than 3rd gen as that is what was in this video) sets you back $289 each (so $578 for both). So Samsung is sitting at $1,399 for the set (can even get refurbished for $1,299, including mounting brackets, meanwhile the Sonos set would set you back $3,176 (plus any costs for brackets which would set you back $99 for the Arc mount, and $89/each for the One mounts or $139 for the pair *(what a steal)*. Bringing the grand total to; *Samsung Q950A: $1,399 (new) $1,299 (refurb)* *Sonos Arc Set: $3,176 (new) / $3,414 (with mounts)* For the price difference you could add on a 65" Samsung Q80A and still break even, or any other $2,000 TV, like a 85" Hisense A7G, or maybe a 75" Sony X70J Bravia.

Idk if it’s to late but just got the 950a and it’s pretty intense especially for movies it feels like you are encapsulated in nothing but sound. I am still curious about the Sonos set up but the Samsung is only $1400 right now so it’s a no brainer. Both are top of the line products. So I don’t think you can go wrong. Of course one set could be a hair better than the other but then because it’s a hair doesn’t it really matter? I’m still tempted to return and exchange for a Sonos setup to experience it and make my comparison opinion. But, Samsung is 11.1.4 which technically give you more immersive sound compared to 5.1.2. One thing for sure is that I did save more money and in case the Sonos ‘were to be a hair better’ (more basey ) I am more than content with the immersive Samsung setup. Samsung for movies = boss Samsung for games also = boss lol.. my opinion is get the Samsung you will not regret and with the left over money buy some Starbucks

Hi, I have bought Samsung q950a and surprisingly I’m not at all impressed with the voice clarity (very low and muffled, most of the times very tinny even after turning on the voice enhancement on SmartThings app), when I increase the volume for speech suddenly when there is some action the soundbar bombards. Also there is no height information (Atmos) at all, tried playing music through airplay and it’s breaking the connection constantly. It’s a hot mess at least the unit I got, Im actually coming from Bose soundbar 700 and base module 700 and I have a small amplifier and denon speakers for my music listing both these systems sounded way better than this Samsung bar clarity and detail wise. How close is Sonos arc compared to Samsung in ur opinion as I’m planning to exchange this with Sonos arc or Sony hta-7000. Ur valuable suggestion is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

@@habiburrehamanshaik6146 You can try to replace the HDMI cable with a high speed one. Make sure it's an eARC suported HDMI cable (HEAC or HEC). Also, with Netflix and Atmos it's important to upgrade your account to access Atmos content. I'm not an expert but I was able to get everything working correctly. I also prefer the actual 11.1.4 configuration to the DSP the Sonos has to use. The soundstage of the Q950A is huge and I didn’t hear that with the Sonos test you provided. I’m happy with my Samsung. Other may have varying mileage, of course.

We had the Sonos sound bar, the subwoofer and the rear surround speakers, (with Sonos stands)… We were very impressed with the sound, but there was no support for DTS. As a result, it wouldn’t play more than half of my video collection… The Sonos Arc also requires a late model TV with an EARC connection… The ARC connection in 2 to 3 year old models isn’t sufficient to support Dolby/TruHD/Atmos, and therefore, the most you can expect to hear, is Dolby + . In addition, it only has one HDMI connection, forcing you to send all of your inputs to the TV… If you have multiple devices, you very quickly run out of HDMI connections on the back of your TV. We’ve also tested the brand new Sony HT-A7000 sound bar, (along with the Sony Sub and rears)…We were disappointed with the sound and sent everything back…… We’re now waiting for the arrival of the Sony HT-A9, (with Sub), which we’re hoping will be a game changer!

Thanks for your summary. In regards to the DTS support, yes it’s been disappointing that Sonos hasn’t supported this popular audio format but it is good to see that they will be adding this later in the year. It very much is an Atmos soundbar for people buying new TVs but not so much for those with older ones unless you buy the Aracana Fury HD and an Apple TV or the like. That inevitably bumps up the price of the setup by hundreds of dollars which is a big downside. I’m also keen to get my hands on the HT-A9 as they looks like a very flexible and great sounding system. Cheers.

@@archwaytech Thanks for your reply… To be fair to Sonos, I’m usually much better at doing my homework, so it came as a big surprise to me that Sonos did not support DTS… I also didn’t have an adequate understanding of ARC versus EARC, nor did I realize that Sonos only had one HDMI EARC input and that, that meant that all of my devices needed to go through the TV… (We have a relatively new LG OLED TV, ca. 2018, but obviously not new enough!) We were sad to send it all back, because we enjoyed the quality of the sound and found the dialogue to be crisp and clean and easier to understand than a lot of the other systems… It all started when one of our cats decided that my mid-level Sony Receiver needed to go…(but that’s another story!) With respect to the Sony HT-A7000… We were very impressed with how easy and seamless the entire set up was… As soon as each device was powered up, it was immediately recognized by the sound bar… Setting up the sound was seamless as well and much easier, (for me at least), then setting up the Sonos system… I found Sonos was not nearly as intuitive or easy to set up, and the app was finicky and not that easy to comprehend. The build quality of the Sony HT-A7000 was top notch! Unfortunately, we didn’t find the sound quality of the Sony HT-A7000 to be nearly as impressive… (I had really been hoping that we’d be done with shopping and testing…) Along with the subwoofer and rear speakers, it was most definitely a full sound, but spacially, it didn’t seem to have that ‘discreet channel’ feeling… There was a Voice enhancement selection, in order to make the dialogue easier to comprehend, which definitely improved things, but if the Dolby enhancement was employed, while it gave a much more expansive and surrounding soundstage, the voice enhancement was no longer available and the dialogue became muddied and disappeared, within the overall sound. I’m away from home, but the Sony A-9 is at home, waiting for me..,(along with the new subwoofer). I’m hoping, from the reviews and from some of the other comments on other forums, that the A9 will be the ticket… I’ll let you know!

@@floshize OK… I don’t want to rain on your parade, especially since you have already bought the Sonos… I’d like you to be happy with it, because we were as well. It took me a while to set everything up when I got home, (HT-A9 +Sub), because I had to put together four speaker stands to replace the 5.1 system that was in existence. We had a preliminary listen of the A9 and I have to say that we are very happy with it… Is it better than the Sonos? I think I have to say “Yes”… but not emphatically…Not by a lot. Obviously we don’t have both systems side-by-side to compare and I’m not an audiophile.,.It’s a little bit like trying on cologne… After you’ve sprayed on a couple of samples, you can’t tell the difference between one and the other anymore… Having said that, I would say that, had we been able to take advantage of Dolby Atmos, with an EARC connection from our TV, and had the Sonos been able to play DTS, we would never have switched from the Sonos. We are very happy with the A9 as well. I believe it’s much, much better than the HT-A7000, which we also had…. I will add to this, that even though there is no center channel, you really can’t tell that it’s not there … The audio/dialogue is very clear, but we have turned the voice enhancement on to make the dialogue just a little bit more clear… (Perhaps I’m going deaf and I’ve always liked to listen to clear dialogue)… Obviously, surround demonstration‘s are awesome, but that’s not the nuts and bolts of a watching/ listening day to day… Currently I’m watching the movie ‘Elysium’, and with voice enhancement turned on, in ‘Cinema’ mode, I’m finding the experience very enjoyable… There is localization of aircraft, overhead, etc. where appropriate, and the dialogue is crisp and clear and if one were to close ones eyes, one could imagine that there is a center channel in the middle… The sound is full and large and all encompassing!

As I touched on in the video, the Sonos system gives you more flexibility and other features which the Samsung doesn’t. If you’re going strictly on price then the Samsung wins but others may find they want more from their system which the Sonos provides.

@@archwaytech so what you are saying is most people wont choose the Sonos Arc setup because Samsung has a better all in one system? Sonos is good to add it with other ecosystems that arent brand related??? Funny...I never read or heard that.

Most poeple I know going for Samsung because of on paper it's "more", "better" and price is also CHEAPER than Sonos. Not many people know much about sound quality anyway, so it's not really fair to Sonos. I also see a pattern iPhone users love Sonos, whereas Samsung users always prefer the...brand they used to it :)

Channel count past 5 does not matter on a soundbar, the speakers are fundamentally in the same position and sound reflection only goes so far. Having the channel count and sound codec logos printed on the box is a marketing gimmick. Most soundbars are 3 channel with extra speakers thrown in the cabinet for virtualization. Plus the cabinet size for the samsung sub is too small, and it really only reaches down to 30hz which is not all that low,

The Dolby Atmos and DTS:X performance between these two were very similar. As I alluded to in the video, the Sonos Ones were more powerful but overall they both gave me a great sense of space.

I got my Samsung today I am yet to actually be impressed. I am not sure what I am missing but so far, it sounds like a hot mess. I will have to try at tweaking the settings but right now it is a narrow some what tinny affair that lacks a real sense of a lateral sound stage. I am feeling like I have wasted my money. I will try another audio source, but it is not playing nice with my Sony tv.

That’s interesting. What model of Sony have you got? Does it sound the same when you play music through it from your phone? Just wondering if it’s the bar or the TV that’s having issues.

@@archwaytech The Sony TV is a Bravia KD55X9000XE. I have the Q950A connected via the ARC HDMI port I also have a UHD Blu-ray player connected through the TV. There aren't a lot of audio settings that can get in the way on the TV side but you make a good point and I will try connecting the Blu-ray player direct to the Q950A. I am not hearing much of a difference between direct streaming from the phone and streaming through the TV. With some tweaking of the settings I was able to improve the sound. Surrounds are working better now, and the left and right channels are performing better too, It no longer sounds as narrow in the front. It is time for me to try a few more movies. FYI, I have have come from a Sony STR DH550. This was paired with an old set of Pioneer S-STP500 surround speakers and a Pioneer S-EW2 sub.

Sonos is like Apple, good but higly overprised and overvalued. Here Samsung delivers much more for much less (price here in Europe is like 1400 vs 2800). Samsung gives larger sound stage, more channels, more connectivity, more support, better stream capabilities and better atmos implementation. maybe the poch build quality of the Sonos is better, but thats it
