A muti instrumentalist at such a young age was way ahead of his time. RIP Mick. X

Awesome thanks. My first attempt at guitar was that riff? c1985 I didn't continue to learn but 35yrs later I bought a guitar and started to learn this time. I'll get that riff down again! It's awesome. BTW my bro got Jimmy Hendrix's autograph a couple of years before he died.

I saw them live in 1982 but only got myself a bass last year. One of the 1st things I tried to play but always got the harmonics wrong. Thanks for the awesome tutorial

Really enjoyed this . Was a masterclass on something I thought I’d been playing for years but I was not quite right. May I suggest A subway called you by Gary Numan , which I think is one of karns finest lines from the dance album. Thanks for your vids and efforts , a great help.

I really appreciate that, mate, thank you! I’ll get a listen to that track, haven’t heard it in a long time

Ps one other that’s gold in my book is , now is my brothers time. I think it’s criminal that this bass player is unknown to many. They all bang on about Jaco but imho Karn will always be the man alongside Percy jones for me. Just sayin.

Just found your channel and subscribed. Great work. If you haven't already can you do a tutorial on micks bass on the track Glow World from the Bill Nelson album Chimera. This is definitely one of my favourite bass parts by Mick Karn. This is also a great album

Thank you for the sub! Haven’t done glow world yet, so I’ll stick it on the list for sure.

Thanks for the tutorial! What kind of effects do you use to get the Mick Karn sound?
@mindhead20053 ай бұрын
Thank you. I’m using a touch of compression and a little chorus here from an old Zoom 506. Your right hand technique is important too though, if you’re not aware of that. Dig in hard towards the back pickup and you get a bit more punch, which really helps.

Great tutorial as always! You plan a getting a Wal tribute of mick's? Youd pretty much have to take out a mortgage to get lol one but I've think youve earned it! I put a down payment on a custom unlined Fretless Jaydee bass 5 string so stoked to get it. but probably wont see it till late next year. Also you mind doing a little gear rundown? Type of strings what variation of Jazz that is etc. that would be cool!
@mindhead20052 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! :) I had a Wal once in the late 80s on permanent loan. It was a Pro, I think? One pickup and a leather pickguard. .Anyway, I didn't like it much. Still should've kept it. Good luck with the Jaydee - they do lovely stuff!! My rig is simple - its just a Mex jazz with Custom Shop 60s pickups. Cheapo Warwick Red Label strings and I D.I. into the computer using a Scarlett interface. For effects, i use either a Zoom 506 or POD Go, whichever is closest to me at the time! :)
@Reptile87402 жыл бұрын
@@mindhead2005 super stoked yeah, ik the wait will be worth it. yeah talk about a future investment! Bet you got that Wal for a fraction of what it is now lol. And that really shows it's mostly in the pickups! The 62's sound super good so I thought maybe you had a more higher end fender from the tone. Every time I watch your vids and I always pickup the fretless, love the vids keep it up!
@mindhead20052 жыл бұрын
I bought it cheap with the pickups in it years ago. Sold it and bought it back. The tone is in your hands, I think. The earlier vids here are a Harley benton - €150 or something
