To fix the bug where you can't cut a log to a tip, try putting another log next to it (so it's not the last log in the line). I have gotten it to work each time

Ziplines have become my best friend. Built a big platform in the middle of my base, with ziplines going out in every direction from it! You can send logs up and down them as well as make a quick getaway when cannibals show up while gathering. The only hurdle I've yet to figure out is handling Kelvin and Virginia who seem to teleport through the walls and then are unable to get back inside on their own -_- The ramp over the wall is so genius though and I'll definitely be adding some of those!

the problem is that you want virginia to pass trough too but she wont be able to use a gate that canibals cant use so you have your base sealed with her outside or leave it open for all

If you can't chop the tip of a log to sharpen it, a trick I found that works is placing a tiny log right next to it like a stool and either standing close to it or on top of it, on the very edge of it, and it will usually let me cut the tips pretty consistently.

if you want a better soulution to last one. use the grapple gun to make line instead. you can send you logs over that way too. Also To be honest, I'd rather not use a gate. Just have an opening into my base with a crapton of traps. Because then I can ensure which way the enemies come in. Then kill most of them with traps. And deal with the rest fairly easily.

I did a 1x1 defensive platform on the inside and outside and just jump between them. I use the angled logs as ramps and have them boosted up by quarter logs to keep the cannibals from walking on them. Lots of jumping involved but I like it lol

the cannibals climb right over spiked walls at the moment. Hopefully they fix that in this next update. it defeats the purpose of a wall all together.

Great video altogether. It's kinda crazy there isn't a defensive wall gate though. I wonder what the devs had in mind when it came to building a defensive settlement, surely they didn't think these options were satisfactory enough haha.

I just built a ramp a few feet from the wall to jump over it since carrying stuff doesnt inhibit your ability to do so

An alternative a friend figured out on my server was a simple staircase from the inside along the wall. you can walk straight up and out and to get back in you can crouch under the staircase and fit between the defensive wall and gap of the stairs to to ground while cannibals cant

Someone else might have already come up with this but I stumbled across being able to use the standing planters as a way to easily hop back and forth over my walls. Have not had any issues with cannibals using it yet.

When you can't sharpen the top of a log, add another log after it. For some reason you often can't sharpen the "last" log of a defensive wall that's perfectly straight (probably has to do with that reinforcement log we can't put on the back of defensive walls yet). Also you can just build a zipline over the wall.

Saw one on Reddit where a guy just literally had a door with two quarter logs standing on either side of the door on the inside, and a log laying across them that blocked the door from opening. When you want in, walk up the the door and hold c, the log blocking the door will clip through the door and you carry it inside and lay it back across

What I’m doing right now is having a fully covered base with no entrances and exits but instead, zip lines attached to trees, which cannibals can’t break, in as many practical directions. Cool thing about it is you can attach onto the rope and ride it in any part of the rope as long as u can reach it. So far, 0 issues.

when defensive walls dont want to get choped it is because the walls are arranged by groups of 5 logs, and if you have a 6th one alone, you can not chop it in spike, just add another one connected to it and you will be able to chop it, then you can remove the extra log.

I found my own version of you last one. I keep it one high. And i use half logs on the inside of wall between vert and horizontal beam to prop up the platform going through the gate. Not sure if the enemies xan jump climb it, but seems to work fine so far

I build a regular house wall with a door between the spike walls and place a quarter log and a medium log left and right of the entrance, then if i want i can bar the door with a diagonal log and keep it locked. It works for any cannibal yet

I went with just using a 2 layer stick spike wall defense. I built a close wall thats post frames with flooring on the back side. Put stick spikes down low in front and a row up behind on the flooring. Then put beams out with a couple of slats to put a top rail so nothing easily goes over. Then I went out and made a second square-ish boundary of stick spikes with small paths barely big enough to pass between spikes I have put facing towards each other. Cannibals struggle to make it through the outter layer so far. None do well on the inner wall. lol

I like these ideas, I just stacked 3 horizontal logs in front of my wall and used them to jump over 🤷‍♂️

What I do is build a disconnected ramp that doesn't face the wall and jump inside my base. I even do this for my base structure as well since the doors don't lock. Alternatively you can build your outer wall near a large boulder and jump inside. You can also just build ziplines into your base.

1. Take 3 logs out of the wall 2. Place a log on the ground on the in-side (this will be the base of the door) 3. Build the standard door NPC proof- 4.On the in-side face of the door place 2 logs and create a ramp (AI can't path through) Simple but can run into issues when logs on wall are destroyed next to the doorway

I have noticed if you just leave a gap around a cut stump in your fence it seems to block cannibals from passing. I'm not sure it is foolproof but it seemed to be a very easy way to have a gate only I can pass.

Once you have the zipline gun can just zipline in and out. (and send logs over on the line!) I don't have any doors since they just walk right through the door, lol. Also one other method is bird house stairs!

i made one very similar to the last gate, but didnt make it go as high. it worked pretty well.

how about a zip line above it, iirc you can rope gun in and out, right? and you can transport logs. sure, you'd need to have a hill beside you, but a zip line in and out or a rope bridge above it could also work ig i've also read that the defensive walls don't do much, but i'd also put swatter traps on the outside for extra protaction

I built a defensive wall with the spikes, but they have just been jumping over it. I thought they weren't able too, but I watched a few just leap right over it. Had 4 in my base

I leave an opening in the gate with a mini maze equipped with a bunch of flyswatter traps, stick fences and pointy sticks. Virginia and kelvin pass thru freely, pretty much all the baddies die to the traps, and if they don't virginia gives them the blam

u can also put a paper target on your door so the door wont open but it does if ur crouch into it

I use a zip line transit system. Build a tower in your base, connect all the zip lines going out to the tower.

Just use zip lines to get in and out of the base the won’t attack it as long as you aren’t near them. Then if you want to use Kelvin to get food then unblock the “gate wall” for him.

tips for gate.. just build stair with side block then pun 1 stair up at the side block and whola you can easy lock enemy (the are not really attack stair) and unlock it by just move that 1 stair to top position when u need to make your way, and for defensive wall u can put your stick behind the defense wall...(kinda bend it to the wall, it will go trough) so enemy would be injured when they slam to your wall...

Any that will allow Kelvin free travel when I need him to gather more logs or other supplies or is his ai smart enough for these?

Found a way to glitch through your built walls. Place a chair backed against the wall. Go to the opposite side of that wall where the chair was placed. Sit in the chair, and you'll glitch through the wall to sit in it. The npc's were doing it, so use at your own risk. They might bug your game doing it. This game is so janky. I love it.

Best way would probably be to put a zip line inside n outside and then build a wall thorough the line and you’re able to pass right through the wall and as an added bonus the logs go right through the wall too

Are the enemy mobs able to hop through windows? Wondering if I can just stack a log wall and cut out windows that I can jump/crouch through? Obviously this would be great.. but only if the enemy mobs aren't able to get through a window?

Creating a door in 7 horizontally stacked logs against the inside wall kinda works - the problem is Kelvin can have pathfinding issues so you may need to add a couple of door sections to your base. How does Kelvin deal with entering/exiting the base using these techniques?

How about in the gap you put a half log and cut the point. You can shoot over it with your bow and cheap ammo. Maybe create a bit of a funnel choke point, and spikes in it. So collecting the bodies for the fire becomes easy. For the crossbar you duck under, can we cut a 3/4 log and put two nearby, and a beam across? The crawling mud boys might be able to leap through, though. BTW, can they leap over half-height walls with cut tops? If not we can make all these walls with half the logs, see them better and shoot them better. Ima go test this...

can Kelvin and Virginia use the rope one?? I'm building one right now and Kelvin keeps walking around the whole wall to get in

Can't you just replace a part of the wall with a regular wall you'd do to build ur base like 2 floors high to prevent climbing - if it does, which i do not know - and just cut out half a door so you have to crawl through? I just had half my door finished, cut out 3 logs, had 1 at the bottom left and the next 3 cut out, and just saw kelvin bug through, tested it and jump + crawl got me inside as well! As an alternative - i dunno if they can climb that yet - i just built a tower outside, 2 floors high, attached a rope to climb up and then jump into my base But i have just finished that, i haven't done any testing and i do not know if they can climb ropes or towers or if they would even try considering they'd have to jump down

Make different pole sizes by cutting out windows and cutting the tops off the large ones. Hope in mario style while still carrying resources. Can even make it do u jump all the way to your highest floor if u wanted.

We use zip line towers to get in and out of our base. You can send logs in via the zip line.

I use a ramp and put a door on top of the 45 angle and for some reason they can’t get through the door even Victoria and kelvin cant. Combine that with a bridge to your island base and it becomes full proof

Try out building a large maze entrance and see if they can find their way through

Hey kibbling, i have a better option where you place a stair and one platform infront of your defencive wall and just jump over the wall on a platform in your base, so the cannibals cant jump in your base but you can. I can show you what i mean if you like.

watching this video made me think of something, but i'm gonna be at work for the next few hours so i thought id just leave the comment here. Might be more of an experiment, but what if you connected a wall 90 degrees and made the sloped wall on the side, similar to how the door looked in the first game so you'd have one layer of wall, then connect something to it, place the slope as it shows in the book, maybe mirror it so it looks like the door from the old game.. probably been tried already, but it might possibly work?

Im suprised you didnt just put a normal wall down with a door inbetween the defensive walls. Thats what i did. Also put some traps around the door on the outside, the AI sees the door so they just funnel into the traps for easy farming.

Instead of putting a climbing rope, do it as a zipline, then you can send logs over too.

Thing is the wall gate will be free to open from any side, just like the door. So this the same as to leave a hole and do not waste time building something that can't stop them anyway. This is my guess. I think in first Forest was something similar.

I've made a 100% failsafe gate. I put a lookout tower in the wall and crafte a rope at the top by using 3/4 logs and cutting out 2 planks at the top. This way you can climb up the tower and rope down at the other side. No worries about mutants ever climbing in. Your companions are trapped inside though. Both ways off course.

My question is does Kelvin know to walk up the 2 log ramp?

All Ive done was build a ramp on the inside of the wall and the climbing rope on the other side of the wall. Kelvins trapped in the base but oh well. He can fish for me.

Yeah I sealed my base up with tha AI inside cause there isnt a reason to have them go out and also the entire inside of my fence sits above the fence and since Virginia cant get out she just stands up there like a turret above the battle field. I'll even jump out into my makeshift arena that the enemies cant just run around in and Virginia just covers me while I fight. I mainly just act as bait and block the entire time as she kills everything pretty fast.

Just build a 2 log ramp on each side and jump over the wall. Simple and effective. Can jump with logs in your hands.

Just zip line in and out with permanent zip lines from your grappling hook. You can also send logs on the zipline rope by pressing E and facing the direction you want to send the log. It even works going uphill for some reason. Only problem is getting Kelvin in and out. It's best if your gate includes nearby water for your base, so he can fish without having to leave. It also keeps him stuck at base instead of getting killed trying to follow you everywhere if you don't use gates. Cannibals can't swim, and they'll die trying. Kelvin can work at placing the pile of logs into holders as they accumulate from sending them up your zip line into your base. There's an island on one of the lakes. You can build a zipline or a rope bridge to it, and you'll be safe from all the cannibals. If you restart the game in the 3d printer room, you can respawn the resin supply on the shelves to make infinite grappling hooks. Same can be done for places where ropes spawn. Then you can build treehouses and zipline from treehouse to treehouse never touching the ground. There's also a chainsaw in one of the caves that you can acquire after you get the maintenance and vip key cards. Makes for super fast tree cutting and it's a great weapon too. Use the chainsaw and give the mutant girl the shotgun and pistol. She's a good shot and she has infinite ammo. If you do fight with Kelvin, light cannibals on fire by beating them with the torch, and while they're stunned, Kelvin will easily chop them up with his axe. You can also make a tall double-vertical-log fort-wall with an interior catwalk around the edge like an ancient Roman fort for shooting arrows down at sieging cannibals.

what about one with the grappling hook?

Chop the points on the logs at the ends of the wall first. This seems to prevent any from not allowing you to chop them.

Why isnt it possible zo build a closeable strong door where they cant walk in.... and why it isnt possible to make the walls more strong? Ive build a very big base with a huge wall and the cannibals come and destroy it with 2 hits...

The main problem is Kelvin can't use that gate, LOL and when I asked him to find something behind the wall and if he want to go inside the wall there was a bug that make Kelvin sitting on air all day, kkk and didn't responses for any request I gave to him. :(

You can also just make short log spikes in between the big ones and jump over them .

i live at a lake, and i blocked my base all around it but made a zipline across the lake, since they cant swim.

The best way to keep ur fort save is dont build an entrance. Just build in near of water, place the wall until the deeper water and then u can go out there but the enemies wont come in through the water. Easy. :D

I built between 2 structures that the cannibals cannot cross (AI pathing doesn't work) and put walls between them

I run zip lines to my highest structure. I have them all over the place and they all launch me inside my base without me having to fuss with dumb doors/tricks

no one else just zipline in? xD i built defensive wall surrounded by re-enforced stick spikes, then built a watch tower in middle of base. and zip in/ jump out. positive is you can use the zips to send logs into the base aswell. i used several zip lines to set up a relay through the forest for logs.
