Sony 24mm GM + Sony A7IV- The Real Test
This was a really fun video to make with its challenges. The Sony A7IV has a crop in 4k 50fps which can be a downside with full frame glass specially with realestate videography.
When slowing down you will need to consider a wider lens or at least consider what happens if you use the same lens in normal motion.

Thank you for this video. The demonstration of the A7IV's cropping in 4K 50p is exactly what I wanted to see. Was thinking about an A7IV until I watched this video. 4K Slo-mo is key for me. Back to the FX3 or maybe an A1 is in my future. Love all the videos I've watched from you! Very, very helpful.

Nice video, thanks! I went with the Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G - I would not mind having both, but since I already have the 20mm next on my list is the 35mm GM as far as primes go...

“Open her up, stoke her” 😂😂😂 I bought the 24mm GM because Teds BNE were doing a $400aud off GM lense with a Sony body so also got the A7IV with 24-105 f4 G kit and really enjoying it. Weather last week in Brissie was a cracker! Enjoy NZ with the family mate 👍🏽

Really appreciate this vid! I opted for the 20G & 35GM pairing but that middle ground 24GM is always nagging at me especially when i have the A7IV, I can't justify the purchase tho unless I sell the other 2. Nice astro shots tho Jace!

Just love your colors 😍 Aussie's got some really good real life color so pleasing to watch.. Other youTubers need to know that extreme teal orange is not pleasing to eyes and night video was too realistic and clean How can I get the same colors as yours??

Great and very inspiring clips, I like how you combine the review with like....vacation footage 🙏🙌. I'll skip this lens and buy the Samyang 24 mm f1.8. I've already got tjeir 35mm f2.8 that is a fantastic value, albeit with a bit noisy AF. The real reason for not getting the GM is that I'm also investing in the Tamron 35-150mm (remember?) and a brand new FX-3. This is gonna run me dry for some time ahead haha

I mean 20mm g is a bit better than this unless you really need 1.4 aperture. Cheaper, wider (its like 19mm which is ok for real estate) and has newest linear motors (though those before are also good)

@@Itaketoomanypics i also love its colors produced, i compare it to my gm zoom and sony 20mm feels like catching more vivid colors XD though its not as good controlling flare as 16-35 gm

*What aperture would you recommend for talking head videos at my desk with a green screen behind me?* At the moment I just change the colour of the screen to look like a wall, and don't have a background image. Which ND filters would you recommend for the 24GM? I really want the Peter McKinnon because of the colour and storage but it's so expensive lol

Green screen work it is always great to have a smaller aperture. Maybe f5.6 but depends on the distance to the subject. The true Color Nisi filters are most Color accurate if that is what you are after

I have a few GM lens for my a7 iv and I gotta say this lens stays on my body. Super sharp, fast focus, 1.4 ,and so lightweight. I think it’s the perfect travel lens. I recently came back from Europe and this was the only lens I took with me. I shoot street and landscapes and 24mm is great and if I need to punch in I go super 35 for a quick crop in. Love this glass.

Does the 24gm not have full linear manual focus? Does it have the focus acceleration? Tossing up between this and the Sigma 24mm or even the 20mm G. Love to use manual focus and having linear focus is a must

It has linear focussing. All new Sony lenses have a magnetic rail system which focussing linear

Great video. I see plenty of green fringing at the beginning of the video in the car shot. If it’s visible that easily without zooming it, it is not that good. Not sure why it is not mentioned more often in reviews. my copy of 24mm gm is similar though, it is the only thing I dislike about it

You’re only seeing it because you notice it on yours. It isn’t noticeable for some and not a big deal for some people. It can also mix with Color grading and be brought out more in specific lighting conditions. With wasn’t my full lens review breakdown but more a practical application review

@@JasonMorrisphotocinema yes. It obviously does not appear all the time, mainly Over dark blacks beside overexposed highlights. Depending on the audience but for me, if it is visible in a video without me actually zooming in it is an issue to take note. Whether is a deal breaker, it’s personal.

@@alantan3582 this is where stopping down the lens will reduce aberrations. I shot between f1.4-1.8 At f1.8-2.8 ish aberrations are better

@@JasonMorrisphotocinema that focus breathing tho. It's horrible... on an otherwise amazing lens. That makes it unusable for me. For photography, perhaps, but for video, not feeling it.

It's an amazing lens, but the price is ridiculous. Not wide enough for real estate, too wide for most portraits...if you have money to spare then go for it, but maybe the 16-35 gm is a better option overall. Also super expensive, bulky and heavy, but too be expected from a zoom lens.
