Kind of amazing how well this makes for a portrait lens. I'm more impressed by this than some of the 85mm's I've seen.

Same here! I have the Sony a6400 with Sigma 16mm 1.4 and 56mm 1.4 and considering buying this 35mm 1.4GM, in case I update for a full-frame. Btw, nice review, thanks!

Very impressive lens and loved the images. I wish Canon would come out with a line of f/1.4L lenses that are small like this. The size of the 1.2 lenses have partially prevented me from upgrading. Now all my primes are EF and the zooms are RF.

The argument that mirrorless cameras are smaller and lighter only works if the lenses are as well. It’s been interesting seeing how each company designs their lenses to work in the mirrorless world. Most of canons lenses are almost bigger for mirrorless than for dslr. 🤷🏻‍♂️ same with a lot of the sigma offerings for Sony.

Yeah but canon went with the „make what’s physically possible with the new system“ which I see as a big plus. In the end what we want are the best lenses possible. There already are small or light lenses you can just use with the adapter. I think this approach was a very good choice in the end

I love the 35mm focal length. As a hobbist, I like the F1. 8 for the price. But no denying the build quality of the GM lenses. BTW I liked 'driving shots' with the hair....except the direction of the hair made it look like you were driving backwards. Lol :D

Wish this was released when I was with Sony. The Zeiss 35mm F/1.4 varies between copy, was disappointing for its price tag. Great work Sony, Next will be a 50mm GM F/1.2!

Awesome video demoing this lens. The most expensive go to lens (that I own) is my Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. I got my 100mm lens used for $600., from Adorama. I really love my 100mm lens as I use it on my Canon 5D Mark II to photograph flower n foliage shots.

I have the SONY FE 35MM F/1.4 ZA ZEISS DISTAGON T* LENS worth upgrading and why ?

Only have the ZA lens, but base on reviews, GM is sharper, lighter and has less chromatic aberration, slightly faster to auto focus. I found 1.4 ZA has a very different tone compare to sony lenses, so unless you really like the tone, I don't see a reason why not to upgrade.

I guess I don't understand the concept of focus breathing. Does it actually knock you out of focus, if you're in AF?

Focus breathing is how much the lens “zooms” in and out when you focus. Typically the less focus breathing “zooming” on a prime lens the more desirable or better it is.

I've been waiting a while before buying a prime 35mm 1.4 I shoot action, mainly dogs. I mostly use the 135mm 1.8 gm as it nails focus almost perfectly every time. Do you feel this 35mm focus speed will be quick enough to give good results on my sony a9?

Don't shoot Sony any longer, no idea why Im watching this ha. Not bad though, good shots too. $1399 expensive? As a Canon RF shooter, I dream of affordable $1399 lenses haha. The upcoming Canon RF 35 f/1.2 will be a beast, but its gonna be well over $2k. Hope they start getting some f/1.4 lenses out soon.

Because it's an all around better lens and native to the Sony cameras ,you get all the Sony camera functions too you get all with third party lenses.

@@jeremymusa1544The gm is a little sharper corner to corner with less ca. Both are good lenses and either is worth having but I went with the gm cause if I only have two full frame digital lenses and I wanted to have the best I could afford without being overly large or heavy like the Sigma 1.2

Actually focus breathing it's very bad ,I tested this lenses , for pictures it's the best lense, unfortunate for video productions ,or vloging doesn't work well

hey youtube "testers" do you have any other F (for example F10 or 16) then 1.4. ? ... show me how it performs when aperture is closed..... this is so annoying when EVERYONE is "testing" on 1.4.... comeon... sony hawe a HUGE problem with higher F's and NOONE is telling about it... s*it!
