Looks like a clogged head. Many actually wore their heads out attempting to clean the clean heads due to this fault.

This video is like a public service! I have a Sony DCR-TRV320, Sept. 2000. Bought it new. Great shape. Been stored for years. Got it all out to finally transfer/digitize my 8mm and Digital8 tapes. Worked fine for awhile. Then got about 1/2 way thru my 80 tapes (1/2 1 hr. Digital8 & 1/2 2 hr. 8 mm) and it starts dropping out and static like dirty heads. Go to some effort to get a dry cleaning tape. Run it for 10 seconds. Seems better, but then drops and fuzzes again. Run the clean tape again. Same. Woulda likely kept it up when I luckily found this! Your guidance gave me the confidence to tear into my excellent condition machine. A couple additional/different wire connectors on mine (black wires between two halves). but managed to work around. Used deoxit as suggested. Got back together and is now working fine! NEVER would of known or tried this without your video! Thank you very much!

Can’t thank you enough for this video. Got a second hand CCD-TRV66 to transfer tapes since I have a couple tapes that were shot on a Canon L2 that don’t want to play nice with my Digital8 camcorder (annoying audio buzz). Didn’t produce an image but audio was intermittently coming through. I saw this tutorial and thankfully the mechanism was more or less the same, reseated the ribbon cables (didn’t use the contact cleaner in your video) and I got playback and was able to transfer the tapes over passthrough with no audio buzz.

These videos are amazing! Thank you. I'm learning a bit about my camera but not quite enough just yet. I have a very similar model to this one but it's not digital. I believe my model is the TRV308. My issue that I'm having with my camera is that the output doesn't seem to work. The camera plays back fine in the viewfinder however when I try to watch my tapes on a TV I get no signal on the TV. I've tried different TV's and different cables. I have the 3.5mm AV Out port and the SVideo out. The SVideo works but sends the image in B/W. Any tips on what the issue might be and how I can watch my old 8mm videos on the TV?

I have several D8 camcorders. Just for clarification... these camcorders don't output pure NTSC 3.58Mhz signals when playing back NTSC tapes. They output pseudo color systems such as PAL60 or NTSC 4.43. This is usually not a problem when viewing content on a TV but will give you problems when capturing. You need a capture device that understands those color systems. Same applies with NTSC camcorders outputing NTSC 50 when playing back PAL tapes.
@12voltvids
@12voltvids 3 жыл бұрын
@@josem.martinez856 that's right and the NTSC camera will play a pal digital 8 tape as will my DV deck and when you capture over FireWire the software has to be set for 50i not 60i. Computers can play they file but if you make a dvd it is a 50i disk that won't play on many domestic players. So frame rate conversion is necessary before turning out a dvd.

@@12voltvids Another great feature of some of these camcorders is their ability to work as a passthrough device taking an analog signal as an input and outputting a DV encoded signal out of the firewire port letting you capture from all your analog formats using your favourite NLE. And in the case of PAL, which is 4:2:0, it produces excellent results.

@@josem.martinez856 Right. I forget if this one has pass through. Will check. I know the gvd800 and my 2 dcrtrv730 do, but i don't thing this first gen had that feature. It could record an analog signal and then play the tape out the FireWire. I know that for sure as I did that. I used to connect it to my evw300 camera as an external recorder and make some beautiful recordings. A 3ccd hyper HAD camera into a digital recorder using component recording. (Svideo is a component signal car by the way. Called Y/VU and the other type of component is YcRcB which used 3 conductors vs 2.) They both deliver the same results.

Got a CCD-TRV58 here with a similar issue (noisy playback, no record). Tried this out and the only result I got was a damaged loading motor connector that now randomly looses connecting and throws the camera into emergency shutdown. I also messed up the alignment thinking it was that. At first I did want to fix it, but now that I got two other cameras that work this one turned into my dedicated tape rewinder cause that's the only thing it's useful for (apart from chewing tapes during playback haha).

I just started converting my 8mm tapes to digital and I'm using a Sony CCD-TRV82 for output to desktop. I'm breaking each segment into 1 hrs blocks and once the tape has stopped or I see no more recording was done on the tape I stop and eject it. I then place the tape in a Sony CCD-TR614 only to rewind the tapes. I got to a row of tapes that started to not be watchable when I tried the transfer yet the TRV82 timer would still be counting showing the tape had been recorded on. Anyhow, I went back to the first tapes I documented what was on them and now I can't watch any of the output from the TRV82. The last thing done with the tape was being rewind by the TR614, ejected, and placed back in the case. I have almost 16 tapes I was able to view now be unable to view on known good camcorder. I also tried on another TRV-460 and it too will not play back the tapes. So my question is did I just ruin all my tapes running it through a non HI8 / Digital 8 camcorder just by rewinding?? I'm stumped, in less than a week my tapes were good to non playable and only were in the two camcorders. Sorry for long winded but hope you're able to help with my issue. Thank you.

When i playing back the cassettes on other camcorder it's normal. If i can ask, are the camcorders in this video are facing the same error messages when recording? Maybe i wanna try this action, but i have to collect the guts to disassembled. Recently dug into the box containing Hi8 tapes and the camera and have had the tape break in both of the first two cassetts I tried to play. While disassembling and splicing the breaks, I think I am noticing a white crusty residue between the rolled tape edge and the inside surface of the plastic reel. I believe this contamination is sticking the tape to sequential turns such that when the tape is unwound by the player, it initiates a long diagonal tear from that point. Have you seen this problem and what do you do to fix it? Thank you, Bert Please reply and I'll check back.

Get contact cleaner like Deoxit or other products and clean the switches. It probably uses a resistor latter to determine which button was pressed. If the switches are dirty, the resistance changes and the button does something unexpected cause the micro reads another voltage than the button should apply through the resistor latter. Dave L Jones made a video about it when he repaired the control panel of an old AC unit.

No, it's a real contest by the radio station. Ratings time, they do it to drum up listeners. Been talking about it all week. Not a scam. In the 90s i won 1040.00 from 1040 kicks back when they were a music station. Still have the sticker from them stuck on my old still functional microwave from the day. Their contest, the phrase that pays. They would make random phone calls and you had to answer the phone 10:40 kicks butt. If you said that you won the 1040 prize. They would always let listeners know the call was coming sometime in the next hour or so.. I was working at the TV shop and the boss would make me take lunch at 12:00 and I had to be back at 12:30 if I was one minute late he would chew my ass. So I was heading back to work in my car and I heard the DJ say they'd be making the call within the next hour, soon as I get back to the shop the boss and the salesman take off with a sales rep from Sony or Panasonic for lunch and I'm alone by myself in the store and now I have to answer phones. About 5 minutes after they left the phone rings and just instinctively I picked it up and instead of saying the name of the shop I said 1040 kicks butt and suddenly music started playing on the phone and all this excitement and I damn near had a heart attack they were recording it, the station was still playing music while the call is going on they recorded it and then at the end of that song they played it back I never said a word because the boss that SOB he was probably would have wanted the cash. I had to pick it up in person so I called in sick the next day so I could go down and claim my cash. 10 brand new sequential 100 bills and 2 20s. Because these bills were brand new and sequential I never spent hang on to them for many years and then the bank announced that the old paper currency would no longer be acceptable because it lacked the security features that the new currency has and they had a deadline to get rid of all the old stuff so I went to the bank and deposited and the teller was quite amazed because she hadn't seen these old style bills in many years it was almost worth keeping but seeing a grand become just useless paper was something I couldn't do. Just at the beginning of this year Canada has devalued the old one and $2 bills as they were taken out of circulation many years ago.
