What I understand the main reason to use image stabilisation is to be able to shoot in a darker environment. Not to correct for big shakes while walking.

It really only makes a big difference with still where obviously you won't be using a gimbal, but will allow sharp handheld shots at slower shutter speed

I bought a a6400 partly based on your vid but looking at the a6600 footage the dynamic range looks much improved over the a6400 and very similar to the a7iii despite having the same settings

A6400 is a studio cam for me so the ibis and battery aren’t big factors. I use the RX100VII out and about and love that camera

I was worried when Sony came out with the 6600 so soon after releasing the 6400 (and me picking one up pre-release) that I would now have one of the "old" models and would have to upgrade... I'm going to stick with the a6400 and the kit 16-50 or 10-18. I take a lot of photos and for video I have that amazing Crane M2 you mentioned that works really well with the a6400. For $269 for the gimbal I have a far better and far more versatile setup than the a6600 at a lower price. Cheers.

Thank you for this video!! I was waiting for this!! I was thinking of changing my a6600 from my a6400 but when I looked at that a6600 IBIS I decided not to. I will just buy Zhiyun Crane M2 and buy more battery. If a6600 had IBIS like my G85 then for sure I would bought a6600.

The Crane M2 is probably to small for a A6400 + lens, you would get away with the cheap kit lenses but a Sigma 16mm 1.4 or a better zoom would at or over the weight limit. FYI with a bigger gimbal like the Crane 2 you can actually connect it via usb to power/charge the camera so no extra battery needed.

I think that the main reason to prefer the a6500/6600 to 6400 is that the IBIS permit us to buy cheaper lenses (like samyang or tamron) without OSS that actually work with full frame system for future upgrade. I don't like to use a gimball every time that i want to shoot an outdoor video and the lenses whit OSS like 18-105 f4 are apsc exclusive. Anyway for vlogging or static tripod video this camera is a beast.

Love your videos super helpful! Keep it up. Now that the price of the a6600 has dropped to $1198 would you still recommend the a6400 over it? Currently have the a7iii but I'm looking for b camera for the no video record limit and for traveling. Having a tough time deciding.

I want to make a real unique testing request for the A6400.: Can you do a battery test of internal battery vs external? How long will it last with a small external power block hooked to it compared to only using the internal battery.

I wonder how the a6600 stabilization would look if you mounted the kit 16-50 lens and turned on IBIS. Would that make a difference?

I got so much stuff when I got the a6400. I just recently got one and paid $2500 for a6400 with 18-135mm, a sigma 16mm, sigma 30mm, ronin sc gimbal, a backpack, and those items came bundled with ton goodies for the same price. That price with the a6600 and one lens will probably cost around the same and I think at the point you might as well spend an extra $100 and get the A7iii. Great video though and I am happy I decided to get the a6400 since I am just learning photo and more about video now. I figure the time I get better at photo/video by next year sony will release a true a beast that will be worth getting like maybe the A7sIII. Keep up the great material.

I am a beginner photographer. I am into day as well as low light portrait photos mostly. I rarely do videos. Iam planning to buy a6400 and sigma 56mm or 30mm f/1.4 but having no stabilization on neither body nor lens is bothering me. Is it right move or not to go for no stabilization on lens &body for the photography i do?? Will it affect much having no stabilization?? If it doesn’t affect then it’s fine but not.. Should I go for other lenses with OSS or buy a6600 which is at $1200 and the sigma lenses??? Hope to get some good suggestions.

Do you miss the lack of oss in this lens. I am using sony a6400 with kit lens. Now I am planning to upgrade my lens to a nice prime lens. I generally do macro, low light, street, landscape photography. So which one I should go for sigma 16mm f1.4 , sigma 30mm f1.4 , sony 35mm f1.8 oss , sony 55 f1.8 oss. Please reply 🙏

I’d rather keep my a6400 and spend money on glass. I’m always going to use aps-c regardless if I start using full frame one day or not. I’d rather save and/or spend money on better glass and wait for Sony to release a better apsc camera.

@@MPD90 One downside to using the a6400 i can forsee is travel shooters. Although it's not gonna happen anytime soon. I've had batteries confiscated because I was bringing like just 6 Canon LP-E17 batteries? I'm gonna get stopped if I bring in 20 or 30 of these tiny sony batteries. Performance is really shitty. But a $500 price tag for useless IBIS and a Z battery is too expensive still.

Does the A6600 suffer from the same weird problems and gotchas with HDMI out that the A6500 does? For instance, losing face tracking when outputting in 4k, losing touch to focus, etc. that's a big deal for me and I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade or not.

If the a6400 is a F grade what is the a6600 for stability? D-? Did you get a chance to slap a stabilized lens on the a6600? We do so much run and gun and my a6400 footage is starting to really annoy me with the shakes.

Overheating is an issue here in Saigon ... I can get about 15 minutes out of my a5100 unless I'm in an aircon location. Otherwise ...8 -10 minutes.

I did a longer shoot, with my a6400 and my Sony 4k camcorder, 1 hour in a hot shop, and for the first time my a6400 overheated and shut off😩 my camcorder just kept going, still love my a6400 and I was worried about the battery🤷‍♂️

Just making sure. Isn't the image quality on the a6400/a6600 the same as the a6500? Same sensor and resolution right? I know the 6400/6600 has a newer processor that allows a better ISO range but not a change in image quality? and of course the a6500 not having eye AF

I only just bought the A6400, and was initially disappointed when I heard about the A6600 with the features I wanted... But I am not a vlogger, and the majority of shots I take will be with a fast shutter speed, so ibis isn't a big issue. As he states, look at gimbals like the Zhiyun crane m2….. will handle the a6400 and kit lens for most scenarios., Unfortunately the max payload is about 760grams... So if you want a killer lens like the sigma 16mm f1.4 then it won't work..... But looking how gimbals are progressing I wouldn't be surprised to see a small form factor gimbal out in the next 6 months that can handle up to 1kg.... I hope ;)

LowJack 16mm Has weather resist and newer than 30mm I prefer 16mm (cause its 24mm) I use it everyday and Great for vlogging 30mm is (48mm in full frame) If you like Taking photographs to others I love the bokeh but still depend on what you like just saying

To be honest, this is the set up I’m thinking for my travel life (I’m a digital nomad and 80d owner and lover): a6600, 16-55 f2.8, 70-200 f4 and a Ronin sc.....this is lightweight and gives me a hell of a lot....now before all the “buy a a7iii with a tamron” people comes here...I need a flip screen.

a7 iii does not have that feature. a6400 has "Real Time Tracking" which the A7iii does not.

My guess is the rolling shutter contributes to the IBIS looking wonky on the a6400/6600. I want the a6600 for the video eye AF and battery, but other than that it's pretty meh in upgrades.

If you're located in Southern California, someone is selling brand new units of the Sony a6600 for $1080 no tax. I was so happy I bought 2 and thought I'd share. Just go on OfferUp and search for a6600!

Yeah... if the a6600 was priced at $1100 it would still be acceptable. The a6600 + 16-55 f/2.8 is only $300 shy of the A7iii+Sigma 24-70. Nobody in their right mind would buy the a6600 combo.

Can this camera shoot in 4K/30P without any limits by time and Gb? I need shoot 3 hours video at once by one file. And I need exactly 30.000 fps!!! Not 29.970fps!!! Is it possible with this camera???
