In exactly the same situation. We need to setup a studio, now have A7RIV, A7SIII and D850 now.

What do you plan to do? Replace the D850 with one? Or wait for the a7RIV and hope it brings up some more video features.

@@KorBartos Currently the D850 is still the best at landscape. Better than any other camera I have tried, it's just made for it. I have some good lenses also. The A7RIV I use for bird and wild life, though the D850 is still capable when needed for it. But keeping them all for now. Probably replace the A7RIV with the A7RV when it comes out later. I forgot to mention we have an A7IV, which I use for B-Roll and streaming (great webcam function)

I really hear you about the rolling shutter. However, when I was shooting some sport, I used a wider lens and used the 24p APS-C mode, and the rolling shutter was SOOOO much better! Really great results.

I am planning to go for the A7iv from a6300. I need a hybrid shooting camera where i can do most of my Photos and videos. This video is very helpful! Thank you!

@@KorBartos can you guide me with something? I am into architecture photography (interiors) and i was going for sigma 16-28mm f2.8 with the sony a7iv.

@@antarpreetsingh7764 16mm is decently wide but there will be a lot of desire for wider than 16mm for interiors. So consider the sigma 14-24mm or the Laowa Zero-D 12mm. Sony's 12-24mm f4 is pretty slick too. Or get the 16-28mm and grab a lower end ultra wide like the Rokinon or Samyang stuff and deal with correcting the distortion but have ultra wide options.

Late to this video, but great content. As a A7r IV user and A7 IV user, I thought I'd wind up selling one of the two. Was thinking the A7r IV would be going, but the files are great. So still have both and use them differently.

Same situation here. Needless to say, sticking with my 7RIV and the 7IV is up for sale. I spoiled myself with pixels.

What is the advantage of 61mp over 33mp? Is it just the cropping? Or better image quality? Thank you.

I mean resolution is going to add some detail and image quality, undoubtedly. Unless you're really working for it you may not get a huge advantage. It also comes with some more challenges like keeping the camera more still and low light can be a bit more difficult. That's very general though.

appreciate your insite on this topic and find it funny you mention davids situation, exactly the same as my wifes but shes not sold on switching. this in mind i would use my 2nd camera to convince her otherwise haha i currently have a a7siii for video and struggle to enjoy it for photography for certain situations such as wildlife (currently have a sigma 100-400m to save on size and weight for travel) i picture using a a7riv to crop in to have better close ups using the 400m. ive seen comparision crops of the a7iv and a7riv... the a7iv does a good job but im not sure its enough for me. at the end of the day with your exsperience in photography would 32mp get the job done. (a7riv is currently on sale here so prices are 800$cdn apart but it also comes with a battery and tough card so more like a 550$ difference)

There isn't a day that goes by that I regret having an a7SIII and an a7RIV over the a7IV. Other than the bird specific AF and the focus breathing compensation... The a7SIII is better for video in just about every way, and the a7RIV is better for photos in just about every way. I still actively use crop mode at 24MP for stuff, especially wildlife with my 200-600... If you really need a second camera to pull SOME video roles as a B Cam, I would see how a 15MP image will do because the a7IV has a crop mode as well and 15MP is still plenty. The a7IV is a wayyy better video camera than the A7RIV. I love the 61MP though, so for photography it is unrivaled to me. That's going to be a hard personal preference though.

@@KorBartos wow thanks for the quick reply. I don't need a B camera for video since I just do all this as a hobby. I need something to fill my need for quality photos on the side of ability to crop and still maintain clarity/extend photo reach using crop. Obviously a7riv has the a7iv beat but in your option is the 32mp enough for a picky person like myself

@@bondistudios5307 Well 32MP wasn't enough for me, and I'd say I'm picky. haha. If you don't need it to do video, you'll love having the 61MP of the A7RIV. I still love mine to death and my opinions expressed in this video are still very accurate to how I feel now.

Just getting into full frame and wanting to do some sports photography, cars and landscape/city... Looking at getting a used a7 IV for about $2300 instead of a used a7R IV or a9 II for $2900... Figured 10 fps should be fine for not being a "serious" sports photography

I think you'll be happy with that setup. If I was looking for a well rounded photo camera I'd be grabbing the a7IV for sure.

Great info! I’m switching my setup from the a6600 to the A74. Would jumping from the 24mp to the 33mp allow me any more quality control while cropping in on images? Considered the A7R4 but it’s just not quite the camera for me, yet.

Definitely want to get the a7IV over the a7RIV. Cropping absolutely will be easier but also going up to that full frame sensor you will notice a big difference in over all quality of the images. The a6600 slams, but you're getting more light on the photo sites on the sensor. It renders color beautifully too. It'll be a nice upgrade. And if you do any video, s-cinetone is gold.

I did a lot of research to buy my new camera, I wanted a hybrid. After all the research I am left with nothing, there is no camera for $4000 that does what I need, the Nikon Z9 is what I want but it's too expensive.

There just isn't a camera doing both photo and video in the way I need it to at the moment either. Since shooting this though I am trying to move my a7RIV for an a7IV. I just leave video so much more than photo and for social media I find myself posting 12MP stills often because my a7SIII is what I have in my hand. haha

Nice video! How does overheating/thermal performance compare with the A7IV? Im looking for a hybrid camera at the moment and rolling shutter isnt an issue for me. It seems like the perfect package but all the overheating reports are kinda holding me off from purchasing..

In typical usage I haven't had an issue, but mind you it's winter in Michigan and we got this a7IV around christmas. I have actually used it quite a bit in a warm shop and had it running for a while. I'd say the 24p and 30p are basically good to go for long periods of time without worry. In my experience, unless you're often shooting single clips for over an hour, it'll likely not be an issue until you are truly somewhere hot or in direct sun doing video for a really long time.

If you need a decent amount of video, a7iv. If you’re doing like 90% photo and take a few video clips occasionally, a7rv.

3 minutes in I had to stop. you gave me a headache with the flared video and you taking your time in telling the pros and cons between them. too long. concise and to the point is better. 13 minute video for this? no. youre out.

Definitely not. I’d take these two over the a1 any day. I’d take an a1 over the RIV, but definitely compromises arise when having one flagship vs two specialized.

I don't know what your experience is, but often finding myself wanting more on a video project from my a7RIV and often wanting a better second cam on a photo gig than my a7SIII. A lot of projects I find myself on it is instrumental having a second cam to either run a second lens quickly or a second angle. Both leave a bit to be desired when doing the job the other is stronger in. I will likely still end up with a third camera. However, in this case, I was hoping it would replace the RIV and I surprisingly found that the video benefits of the a7IV were not enough to relieve myself of the benefits of the RIV. Maybe that would have been a cleaner wrap up.
