Very good content. I’m basically a photographer that needs to venture into videography. I’ve own cameras and lenses for both systems, and I’ve photographed with the R5 and a7iv but don’t own either camera. With these holiday sales it is a tough choice in which to choose. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for watching! Both are really good cameras overall! If video becomes a priority, that’s when I recommend anyone to try Sony and even the new LUMIX cameras. But for photography, it’s actually hard to find a bad camera! Good luck!

Haha bro! I thought my R5 was a baby C70. The C70 definitely showed me they purposely omitted features from their mirrorless line 😭

For photographers, the amount of customization on R5 is absolutely awesome. For video, well, Sony definitely leads.

I've been looking at this cam to pair with my blackmagic. I 👀 a lot of reviews complaining about the sensor failing. Now I'm wondering if I should go with an r5

Hey! I actually never use presets. I have been creating Lightroom tutorial videos on here, and I’ll add those photos to the list to make an editing tutorial! I have BTS of the shoot too!

The other biggest gripe with the R5... Recording limits. I shoot ambiant soundscapes and moving into mobile podcasts and interviews. LET ME OVERHEAT MY CAMERA!... It doesn't overheat in 1080 30 or 4k 30! In my use cases...

Haha I will tell you bro, only way I could shoot podcasts with my R5 and R6 was to record using the Atomos Ninja V to avoid overheating and the record limit. Just too many workarounds needed

Right now B&H has the Canon EOS R5 with a 2TB SanDisk portable SSD for for $2,999 and the Sony a7 IV for $2,298. To me is all about Canon color science vs Sony color science. I like Canon Color science straight out of the camera, I don’t buy Specs. I don’t care about specs if I don’t like the color science of the camera. I’ll never switch, Canon for life!

the main thing is was so disappointed in with the canon r5 (was a Nikon then Sony shooter that was curious about the r5), you can only shoot 10 bit video if you are in log... which I get because 10 bit really matters with the "most" dynamic range... but being able to shoot some fun stuff with s cinetone, and it being 10bit was a little treat lol that I didn't even know was a treat until I tried canon.

No doubt currently the Sony is superior. However my first pro kinda motor less camera was the R6 and the a7iv was not out. I just made it work for my workflow, ye there are some huge cons using the R6 however I can get the job done with no real issues If I were to switch brands I def would go for the Panasonic s5iix due to the video feature and also the lenses selection looking good and also there up coming cameras also looking extremely promising Sony is a SOLID choice no matter what

I own the A7S3 and Canon R5. Because of how good the photography and colors / overall image of the R5 it is my go to. When the R5II comes out the dynamic range will crush.

Oh it’s an INCREDIBLE photo camera. But If they decide to continue to omit C Log 2, dynamic range will remain on par with the first R5. I don’t care how good a censor is, it won’t overcome a log curve with too much contrast

@@mariodevon_ I haven’t had that problem. The only issue I have had is the highlights clipping on the dynamic range but it’s not terrible. If it can get the dynamic range of the R5C I am in

@@heynow2880 wait I know th a7siii is a photo camera but lets not act like its in the same photography range as the R5. Color science is subjective and it's so fucking annoying hearing people talk about it for any company. If you're a professional you are shooting in Raw and the "color science" is just gonna get you closer to a good starting point. Like I saw your video about how much canon is better than sony (for you) and I would say to that great but to say canon at this point has "superior color science" is a myth. The R5 is great but if im truly a hybrid professional shooter im going with sony, I'm not getting kneecapped in dynamic range, the A7 Rv and 9iii have insane ibis and the dynamic range in video on the a9iii has been proven to be better than any current sony mirrorless camera out there (CineD has a video and article on it). I did canon before unless they get their shit together I would NEVER go back and there is a reason why a lot of people are leaving the canon ecosystem but they clearly aren't hurting business wise because they are a recognizable camera brand, they're fucking Coca Cola lol.

The sensor literally cannot shoot clog2 even when you shoot raw it’s not true clog2 you can interpret as clog2 in a nle , if you researched into the why behind it then you would understand that clog2 on the r5 would be beyond noisy as the r5 sensor simply doesn’t have the dynamic range to support clog2 just look at cined and their results / findings with the r5c (same sensor). As far as wanting 4k raw from the r5 canon probably omitted that simply because raw in its self is normally a 1:1 sensor read out other varying degrees of raw resolutions can be achieved by windowing in or cropping into the sensor example my r5c can do 6k raw (apsc) and 3k raw (S16) those are basically crops. As someone who switched from Sony to canon so coming from the a1,fx6,fx3 and a7iv I will say Sony sensors have more dynamic range as far as video goes because they have inbuilt noise reduction that can’t be turned off unless it’s on the higher end FX line. But ultimately it seems like your issue is with clog2 being missing without understanding why it is.

Canon, in a press release, stated C Log 2 is only designed for their cinema line cameras. We will have to agree to disagree here. Sony has a plethora of different sensors, 24.2MP, 33MP, 12MP, 61MP, 50MP…..they all do S Log 3 😂

@@mariodevon_if you know it’s only for the higher end cinema cameras why the expectation? In a mirrorless body ? ust curious ? And of course Sony has slog3 across multiple cameras they literally have no choice as that’s the only other 10bit log profile

@@mariodevon_outside of Sony and Panasonic which only recently starting including the full vlog log profile Vs giving Vlog L those other companies don’t have a cinema line they don’t want to cannibalize , fragmentation is even happening with Sony as well log profiles aside. so I get it from a business perspective on canons part and I can understand your frustration as I have no favorite company, I’m just a technical guy so it’s all love I just couldn’t health but start a healthy debate into digging deeper into why you wanted clog2 , much love keep shooting and creating!

Many videographers/cinematographers prefer cameras with high dynamic range. Red even had a high end cinema camera that didn't even shoot 4k, but had 16 stops of dynamic range. So I get why the clog is a major issue for him. I love Canon, but even the r5c does well with highlights but poor with shadows because as you said, dynamic range not where it should be. If dynamic range is a deal breaker for you, then most likely, one will go with Sony. I wish I could've got that R5 at $2500, tho.

I just had a shoot mixing Sony FX6, FX3, and BMPCC6K….it took me 10 seconds to make them match. That color science argument gotta go. There’s not a single camera company that has bad colors anymore
