Recently picked up the Sony A7R3 camera mainly for stills, but I thought i'd test it with video. Here i'm using the new Sony 12-24mm G-
Series lens chasing my daughter.
Most gimbals today are pretty decent, as long as it can support the weight and size of this setup Camera + Lens setup. Wide Angle Lenses tend to mask movement better, while lenses with longer focal lengths will exaggerate movement.

Tentacle Sync is the company that the logo comes from. They make Time Code generators for video cameras. Awesome gear!

With my zhiyun crane and this setup I get camera shake, I think it may be a little too heavy for the zhiyun

Would love to see some 1080 120 gimbal shots with the 12-24. The follow cam looks great, but I'm wondering if other movement shots distort too much at 12mm.

Nice video. It's a shame on that HD softness. I'm waiting on either the A7S3 or the Fujifilm X-H1. How you got under that kids platform multiple times with decent speed....I HAVE NO IDEA.

Hey Mrcheesycam thanks for the video! you mentioned you wouldn't use this lens on a commercial project. Can you please explain more of your thoughts on why this wouldn't be a good lens for commercial use and what you would recommend to use instead. I have the A7Sii and I plan to do wedding videos and real estate so trying to figure out if this would be a good lens. Thanks!

At it’s widest the image looks too unrealistic. If any person was shot with this lens they would be distorted. People tend to look better when shot from 24mm and up, I try to use 35mm+.

I just use the autofocus and it seems fast enough for me.

So far I haven't done anything too custom. Just using the Cine4 profile (not slog).

hey mate, been a subscriber for a number of years now. I have a question, I have a Sony a6300 Camera & just bought a Feiyu a1000 Gimbal & a 24mm Sony Ziess lens, but is there any lens you would personally recommend for use on this Gimbal?

Video Auto Focus works nicely. Similar to what you'll get on an A6500 (using Sony Native lenses of course). But still i'm not 100% sold on using this as my best video camera. I don't like how soft it gets when shooting 60p (because it's HD only). The GH5 can shoot 4K 60p and still look sharp.

I'm not saying it doesn't look good. It's usable stuff and great dynamic range. But at $3200 dollars, I would prefer to go with an A6500 for $1200 for a dedicated video camera. Use the extra cash to get some good lenses. But if you need the best stills camera you can get that happens to shoot decent video, that's the reason I chose the A7R3.

If you pixel peep, then I would say even more so yes. For most people, maybe many clients, they wouldn't care. But the A7R3 is a lot of money for someone who wants to use it only as a video camera. Perhaps after CES or NAB (in a few months) there could be a new camera in the works...

First of all, what a great selection of gear. That gimbal is a killer, never seen anything like it before. Second of all, what is the name/brand of your jacket? lol Could you also give an advice, please? I want to get one of 3 cameras: Nikon D850, Canon 5D IV and Sony a7r iii. I'm a Canon guy but investing in 5D IV in 2018 seems like buying a GoPro stock right now. I'm leaning towards a7r iii but only because Canon doesn't have anything better. I'd definitely buy a rumored 5ds r ii if it was available or going to be released anytime soon which I doubt.

Haha. The jacket is 32 degrees. amzn.to/2CZgNiq As far as cameras go, you listed some high profile 'Stills' cameras. If stills are important and you're vested in Canon lenses, I think maybe the A7r3 with a Canon lens adapter. It won't be as fast as native sony lenses, but it will get you started. Then slowly sell off your lenses and buy more Sony lenses. Even third party lenses like Sigma make good lenses for native Sony FE mount.
