Have you had a chance to try the camera under the stars yet? I have found that at ISOs 102400 and above, built-in NR is causing stars to disappear. At 80,000 it looks fine but beyond that is when stars disappear. The stars have to be tack-sharp and in focus for this to occur. It appears some internal NR is seeing stars as hot pixels and removes them. I hope you can give this a test and confirm what I am seeing.

That's unfortunately to hear. I'll try to get out and test this week. Have you tried shooting in RAW by chance? If so, is this issue prevalent there as well? As I understand it from Philip Bloom's videos, RAW doesn't have the noise reduction issues. I'll test both when I have a chance but might be something to try in the meantime.

It's been a while since it got the best of me, but this camera is everything I've been dreaming of for most of my time shooting Northern Lights. :-)

What settings do you use for filming the Aurora? High ISO, 52000 I guess? What other settings do you recommend?

Well I am stuck with my Panosonic S1. I needed to replace my camera at the beginning of the year. Probably not quite as good as the a7siii will be with Aurora, but I can't wait until we get some middle latitude displays to test it out. I had fairly acceptable quality taking video of the milkyway and comet. Have fun with the long awaited beast!

Literally the moment it went live on B&H. I also am a Sony Pro Services member and asked them to expedite me in the queue. I still almost didn't get it as I ordered it with the CFexpress card and those are delayed so I had to contact B&H and ask them to send the camera separately.

Hello Ronn! I have A7R IV and now I want buy A7s II or A7s III as second body for video and work in night (Low light), mostly the Northern Lights. You recommend me A7s II or A7s III ? Thank you! :)

Every bit of Northern Lights footage on our channel thus far has either been with the a7S or a7S II. That said, there have always been limitations and issues with using those cameras. The a7S III solves most of those issues.

@@TheAuroraChasers Yes, I know, because I work in Iceland. I owned A7s but I sold it, for to upgrade to A7s II or A7s III, but in the end I think about going to the A7s III. :D Thanks.
