Thanks for not just reading a spec list - but instead, giving some "real-life ergonomic/ operator thoughts and comparisons that are pretty much missed by all the tech reviews. I'm not a sony shooter, or at this level of camera, but its still interesting to hear your thoughts on it - because you focused on the 'real work useability' Your vlogs are the 'no decision, click and watch' content for me - thanks man, appreciate it.

Just a heads up- you don’t need an extreme crop for 4k. The camera will downsample from full frame, so you can use almost the entire sensor and still have 4k XAVC deliveries. The crop is only 7% from the entire 16:9/17:9 sensor. The only extreme crop is S35 at 120fps.

The BURANO’s power draw is almost double that of the FX9, 4X that of the FX6. That would be the biggest issues with it as “Run and Gun”. That being said, it is very tempting for small crew style work.

Agree on the EVF. Had to get the Zacuto EVF and bracket to make my fx6 monitor useful to old eyes.

I don’t need anything 😅 haha but my main request that I started the video out with is integrated V Mount. That would be great. Especially on the fx6. If I could get the 6 with v mount I would be stoked.

I wonder what the power draw is? On the FX9 it’s awful, I would have to carry 3x the V mount batteries than with my FX6 - I can’t imagine lugging around 9 V mount batteries instead of 3 🪦 - hopefully they address this with an FX9 ii .. also XQD cards are a bit of a bad investment as they’re now obsolete

@@kazlepek6552 I have 3 96wh Core batteries that slot into the regular battery spot and have a d-tap for the Fx9. I’ve never made it through all 3 in a day - and I’ve had the camera for 3 years. Also, I purchased 2 XQD cards with the camera and have used them for years without issue. Rarely have I gone to a 3rd card in a day. It’s really a small investment to use the camera. I like the newer cards, but it’s not a big deal.

Definitely a cool development from Sony. Hits at an interesting price point that's pretty close to owner/operator budget friendly (less than a Red Ranger, less than an Amira). Really like the form factor, especially the in-body XLR. As an FX6 owner, in-body XLR is something I miss dearly.

You don’t have to crop in on the sensor to shoot lower resolutions unless you are shooting the xocn lt raw format. The camera separates scan mode from recording resolution. Think like the fx9 how it says 6k and 5k crop but you are still recording 4k either way. But now with burano you can choose to record the higher resolutions if you want.

They literally threw an A1 sensor in a cinema body, kept all the good stuff from the FX6 (variable ND, autofocus etc) fixed the few complaints FX6 owners had with it (XLR audio inputs on the body of the camera, IBIS in camera, 4k super 35 crop mode, open gate and anamorphic modes etc.) Great camera but I don’t live in the 25k camera body world. I really don’t even live in the 15k camera body world but if they would have made it 15k, I would have figured out some way to buy it because it looks about perfect for me….

Great video. What are your thoughts on the FX9? I have the 9 and 6 and love them both but the FX9's look and color are amazing. I can go forever with one bp70 batt. light weight. I use the tilta cage on it.

9 is great. For me anything bigger than the 6 is a bit bulkier than I want which is why I’d love a 6 to have V mount natively

@@davidmorefield Yes, the 9 is a little heavy. I have it on a tripod (at my age 😄) or on my shoulder and hold the 6 if I'm working up close to the subject but also want it light enough for use with a gimbal. I think the 6 would be near perfect if it had one xlr in the body.

RAW 16 bit color is Crazy. I need to research the X-OCN LT codec and see if it's true 16 bit after compression?

I’m not sure but that’s their best codec by far. Even the older f series had it.

It looks incredible. Very curious to see how the vari ND works with polariser. Keep in mind this is $25000 usd currently. But overall a much better package vs the FX9, but you also get what you pay for. Could finally be the F55 replacement, which was a king for doc work back in the day. But keep in mind, almost all of the ergonomics things you mentioned you do get with the c500 mark II now, on body xlr, 6K raw, 4K full scan full frame, internal nd, auto focus, false colour, etc etc. But this camera of course dominates with dynamic range of course. Also keep in mind the very nearly full frame scan mode in 6K does downscale to 4K records in camera from what I saw. So it's a slight crop, but not bad, like a couple percent crop. So you could live in the 6K scan mode all day.

I left Canon land for good 😁 Plus c500 doesn’t have my most requested feature which is integrated v mount. I don’t see why the vari nd would behave differently with a CPL. Yeah I’m getting f55 vibes for sure.

Oh totally feel you. I use a lowe profile vmount adapter too, but again since it's not built in it only commuicates via voltage. That be said, it's a $100 part and lets you still use the Canon batteries tool, blah blah. Not important if you are in Sony camp now, but still wanted to mention that a lot of what makes the more expensive cameras better for working pros also just costs more too.@@davidmorefield

I highly doubt an Mark II version of the FX6 will get a native V Mount plate due to the market of the camera. However, I believe Sony is going to release a camera at around $15K that will be a like a beefed up FX6 with 6K recording. The baby brother to the Burano.

That sounds like an fx9 mark 2 to me. Already has a 6k sensor and lives in that price range. But who knows, it could happen. And I completely agree. I don’t think the 6 will get a v Mount plate. However I would argue that it’s not a market issue (almost every fx6 I see already has a v mount attached to it) but rather they want to keep selling their Sony Bpu batteries.

Totally… if you’re looking at it as a whole package. I’m looking at the feature set which are not price dependent at at all. Having a media door that opens all the way, integrated v mount, xlr inputs on the body. Would love to see this structure on an fx6ii but I don’t see that happening. I love how Sony is listening to its customers though.

I honestly believe they dropped the c500ii by $5k bc no one was buying it. Sometimes specs aren’t everything. I would imagine Burano will have many more requests than canons stuff
