Bedankt voor de video. Leuk om deze quick en durty oplossing aan te dragen. Met deze oplossing schakelt u wel de defecte beveiliging uit waarmee ueen potentieel brandgevaar tijdens laden/ontladen introduceert. Beter is, het circuitboardje of de complete batterij te vervangen. Bedenk dat veel tegenwoordige branden veroorzaakt worden door niet juist laden/ontladen van L-ion batterijen. Ik wil u geen angst aanpraten, maar weet wel waar u mee bezig bent want het circuitje zit er niet voor niets. Suc6 met uw besluit.

Thanks for this very useful video, @Burpathalon. Firstly it clarified the cause of the problem with my beloved PRS T2 (apparently it was overheated while lying in the sun for a while). I've had the PRS T2 for many years, it is a perfect reader, much better than the ever crashing T1, so repairing it is preferable to buying a new one. As I only have very basic soldering equipment I was hesitant to start on bypassing the chip. Thanks to the contributors in the thread I now have a clue how to go about it. Replacing the battery would still require soldering. I didn't realise I can still use it with a charger, so that's a welcome workaround. Thank you all for sharing tips on this!

HI, I just want to THANK YOU !!!!! you might not have actually show it but there was enough info to actually do it. This is the only decent info I've found on a repair. No downside for me because my reader was non functional unless it was plugged it. YAY ! I have my e reader working again . Yes, Tuffinboots there is very fiddly soldering. BUT it cost $0 because luckily I have access to a very fine tip soldering iron. There seems to be a replacement battery available @ $30, the pic looks like it has the over current part on it ??? ...but you STILL have to solder! THANK YOU !!!!!

Het is gelukt. Het viel niet mee om de reader open te krijgen. Na het aanbrengen van de verbinding tussen de zwarte draad en de min van de batterij heb ik de batterij weer helemaal op kunnen laden. Bij het in elkaar zetten van de behuizing heb ik een klein plastic onderdeel over gehouden. ik kon het nergens terug plaatsen. waarschijnlijk een afdekking van de resetknop. Ik ben blij dat hij het weer doet. Bedankt voor jouw KZfaq video. Eigenlijk heel knullig van Sony om een stukje elektronica , dat kennelijk vergeten was bij het ontwerp, op de batterij er bij te plakken. Het blijkt dat veel mensen nu problemen hebben met de reader terwijl de batterij eigenlijk nog goed is maar niet kan opladen omdat de bij gefrutselde elektronica niet goed werkt.. Nu nog afwachten of dit een duurzame oplossing is, anders ga ik alsnog een nieuwe batterij plaatsen die rond de € 20,- kost.

Спасибо за видео. Оно послужило отправной точкой в изучении вопроса отсутствующего заряда на T1 с такой же батареей. Я сделал перемычку для "-" в обход микросхемы, но это не восстановило способность батареи заряжаться. Оказалось, что проблема не в микросхеме (во всяком случае у меня), а в том, что приходящий с батареи "-" отсекается в месте присоединения к плате. Я сделал перемычку на плату непосредственно около контакта "-", приходящего с батареи, после этого всё заработало как и раньше, микросхема полностью задействована. Сейчас в процессе тестирования. Надеюсь, что смог объяснить. Плата имеется в виду именно та, что показана на видео.

What's the consequence of bypassing that chip? I suppose it had a function? Would the battery risk to overcharge and get damaged by doing so? Just making sure it would not be dangerous :) Thanks!

a bit late maybe, but for some reason when i connect de reader to a computer and not a power supply it charges....

Using a flat metal blade as in a screwdriver is not the ideal way to seperate the two halves!..It chews the edges of the plastic making it look a mess...In my years working as a tech I'd suggest using an old credit card and parting the two halves that way!!
