I was in Vancouver back in 2018 with my wife on Holiday. We went to Banff, then Jasper, stopping at the Athabasca Glacier along the way. Got a Rocky Mountain train to Prince Rupert from Jasper, then took a ferry to Vancouver Island from Prince Rupert and drove down to Wellington then got another ferry and finished up in Vancouver. Went to Gas town, what great time. Great beer and food was out of this world. I'll never forget the trip to Jasper from Banff, nearly crashed the hire car looking at the mountains. Oh this video was great BTW, very interesting to learn about the camera, how it's put together and the features.

It's called smear and every camera manufacture worked hard to eliminate it. That camera used the hyper HAD chips. The betacam used the power HAD which had far less smear and you paid for it. It's caused by bright lights reflecting off the vertical connection rails that the front side of the diode was connected. HAD stands for hole accumulated diode. The big break through was the back iluminated sensor. The early cmos were not very good because the connection points were on the front side and light had to pass through them. Once they figured out how so put it on the back side, or more accurately focus the light on the under side of the chip and install it upside down the problems were solved and that basically signed the death warrant for CCD cameras. They could put the system on chip and make an entire camera on a single chip.

Someone local is trying to get $200 for a CCD v5000. The v5000 of course looks very much like the evw300, it has the same meters on the side it has digital sound for the audio but it also has a time-based corrector for playback and the digital sound can be dubbed, it also has analog stereo where is this one only has mono. The consumer version however is just a single chip where they fixed 8 to 1 lens. Because it's of the same era it's going to have the same problems in other words it needs all the Caps replaced and there's about as many in it as there is in this one but they're much harder to work on because the board don't just unplug but it's a shoulder Mount camera as well just smaller. I'd grab it as a display piece to add to my collection but not for 200 bucks I told the person that was selling it because they are advertising it as conditioned unknown that it's worth 10 maybe $20 maximum. I'll let it sit on Facebook for another month or so and when they get no bites I'll come back and offer them $10 a second time they were asking $300. Not that I need a CCV 5000, I don't I need another camera like I need a hole in my head but it's something about just the look of these old shoulder Mount cameras they just look cool. Right now in my living room I have my old JVC just sitting on a tripod over in the corner and my betacam just sits on top of my old tea act reel-to-reel machine with my stereo equipment just a display piece, wall art as we call it cuz it looks cool.

Will digitize over firewire and up convert on PC as well as through the cloner box comparing both composite and component. Say what you say, how can i do component? Well i can send S-Video into my hdv deck or my DVD recorder and component comes out. I covered Caribbean days in 1996 for local media and shot lots of footage. Unfortunately i only recorded PCM sound so i will have to drag out the evs7000 to get sound off that tape but the visuals should be great for hi8 that is.

I still have my Sony EVW-300 with just over 60 hours (!) of use. It's like new, but I only use it as decoration, as I love the ENG style. I also bought a Sony EVO-9800A and a Sony EVO-9850 at the time, which have excellent TBC/NR, for editing with the Sony RM-450. Later I used this equipment again to transpose to digital. At the time, the Hi8 Pro (without quotes) had excellent quality, despite blurring the colors like S-VHS. In fact, the image quality of the EVW-300 is not much better than that of the "pro" V6000, which lacked 3CCD and was much more affordable.

Today we get a better signal with affordable cameras when compared to the signal we receive at home! Unimaginable in the 80s 90s! What was your process capturing the video? Capture device ? Playback deck? Software to deinterlace ?
@12voltvids
@12voltvids Жыл бұрын
I did all captures on this using my cloner alliance box pro that I reviewed last week. Playback was just a digital 8 camera using the composite (A/V) output. Deinterlacing was done on the hardware capture box that stored the video as 1080p60 .mp4 files.
@ConsumerDV
@ConsumerDV Жыл бұрын
@@12voltvids Why do you capture composite? S-Video provides higher quality; S-Video was an integral part of SVHS and Hi8. Why not using Firewire since you are playing it on a Digital8 camera, going directly into DV? Oh, I guess it is because you are doing it with an external box, which only has composite input.
@12voltvids

@@ConsumerDV capture box has composite and component only input no S-Video. Firewire dv is color space 4:1:1 and the capture box digitized 4:2:2 so double the color resolution despite using composite. I will be doing a demo of the different signals soon.

This camera has better image do you think than Sony CCD - V6000 Pro?
@12voltvids
@12voltvids 18 күн бұрын
The evw300 had a broadcast quality camera. 3CCD. V6000 was a single chip camera. The evw300 could record a better picture but the 6000 had better playback. That's only because the evw300 was intended as a professional field camera for ENG. The station would have had evo9800 playback deck for dubbing to betacam or umatic for editing. The evw300 was built for small market stations that couldn't budget for betacam or large market systems that couldn't afford to risk a 40,000 betacam into dangerous situations (civil unrest, protests, riots ect) where the cameraman may get assaulted and his camera smashed. These were considered disposable cameras that were good enough for broadcast.

@salvatorev_ the 300 does have a better front end. Personally I wouldn't use any of them. If I wanted a vintage look I would shoot and edit hd. Export to a USB stick, plug that into a media player with analog out, record it to vhs or beta tape and then capture that first gen tape. Three authentic tape quality and the master production is preserved in HD or 4k

For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would use analog video. Hi8 could record 400 lines of horizontal resolution luminance but only about 45 for the chroma. You are still only recording 480 vertical lines interfaced. I laugh when I hear people say that they are going to upscale at the 4K great you still have a 489 source and upscaling it 24K does not create anything that's not there. I used to enjoy carrying around the big camera because it made me look like a pro wait a minute I was a pro when I was using the big camera. Used to pack my EVW 300 then my betacam and my JVCGYDV 500 Around all the time even when I was just filming the kids when they were little I used to pack the big camera around. Would never do that today unless I was just playing with the camera as a toy as I do have a few big ones that I just can't keep around to display but don't use them my little handicap will run circles around any those old standard definition cameras. I had more headaches carrying around the EVW 300 and the other big cameras I've got just from officials. Was probably 2002 or 3 I had my big JVC out at a parade with my kids just filming it and filming my kids at this parade and i got a tap on the shoulder from City official asking me where my filming permit was he saw the big camera and just assumed that I was doing something that required a permit because I was in a park. Never get that with my handicap even if I'm on a big tripod no 1's ever asking me questions on that 1 but the big one just drew attention.

Yes I would love the sm because that board I pulled looks like a component had corroded off the board. Looks like leakage from the other side. Actually it looks like something burnt up on that board. It is the one closest to the lens of the 4. This camera will probably be in service for a while because I'm going to have to order all those caps in. this is going to be a total recap on this just because of how bad they all are, not every capacitor is failed but many of them are completely open and the others are starting to go bad so when doing a major service on a high-end piece like this it really need some all done but I do have to investigate that area that looks like it is damaged on the board so I don't know what happened there but the picture certainly isn't very good as you saw it's got a lot to noise I think that's probably mostly capacitors but that damaged area if the board can certainly be contributing to the picture problem so a service manual be a great place to get the info I need

@12voltvids
@12voltvids Жыл бұрын
Let me tell you about the creepy neighbor because he's been gone for a long time he's probably not even alive anymore but the old rundown decrepit house that he had had no running water and all he would see when you drove by was a single light bulb hanging from a cord from the rafters because the roof is leaked and all the drywall plaster had fallen in. The house was not habitable and he used to live in his car. We in the winter hear the car running all night has he left the engine running to stay warm. He was pretty harmless, his problem was PTSD. From what I understand he had been a police officer and his partner was shot right in front of him. He didn't take it well and went off the deep end. He was always watching what was going on in the neighborhood but really quite harmless. But he used to give some people the creeps because he would pure around fences and stuff like he did when I was out with the camera he was watching me and I was watching him back through the camera. He used to breed rabbits and rats in the old decrepit home and used them as food for people with pet snakes and for the rehabilitation center for wildlife, owl and eagle food for birds that were recovering. Little over 20 years ago now the city finally moved in on him and gave him an order to either clean up his property or they would do it for him and send him the bill. his rats were infesting everybody else's homes in the neighborhood including mine which I had to deal with in the late 90s. He put the house on the market it sold within a day he got in his car and he left town went to the interior from what I understand because he had family there. They built a nice big new house there around maybe 98 somewhere around there. Apparently according to my wife because she was home at that time we just had young baby in the house so she was staying home and she said the day they showed up to bulldoze the house all the neighbors came out with champagne and we're toasting each other as they plowed over the old house. I asked her if he thought to grab the camera and take a picture of that but she was kind of busy with a newborn, but she said the neighbors were having a party with his old shack came down. I know that he knew the old lady that lived next door to me in the little white house it was next to me at the time and when she was alive she used to let him come in and use your shower once in awhile because well his house had no water. It's not like the guy didn't have any money but he just wouldn't spend it to fix the house up. Everyone said he was a millionaire although you wouldn't know it by looking at the guy and he certainly wouldn't spend a dime on the property. He used to go to the local mcdees for breakfast lunch and dinner apparently he would have an entire section to himself because nobody else could stand the smell.

Evw300 was a professional hi8 camera designed as an ENG budget camera. Betacam was the broadcast camera of choice but they were expensive so Sony brought our the evw300, a sub 10k camera that was good enough to produce a broadcast picture. Not quite up to full broadcast quality but close. Many were used in industrial and professional non broadcast applications like corporate and wedding producers.

Why was going through some high eight tapes looking for footage from my evw300 I found a tape that I think I will put up it needs its own video all to itself because at one time I was doing freelance work and I was contracted to cover a car show in Vancouver. I took a three chip camera on a Steadicam and did a walk-through of this car show showing a lot of these classic cars and some hot rods and some souped-up bikes and the whole bit it's probably an hour and a half or so a footage that was shot and when I shot it it was shot on high eight and then it was dumped over betacam for the tv station that was going to edit. It's worthy of its own video and I'm sure Carl enthusias would like to see it. This would have been maybe 92 or 93 when this was shot and the camera would have been a ccdvx3 mounted on a Steadicam Jr. It was one guy that had a DeLorean and he had it up for sale he was asking I think around 39,000 for this car back in 92 or 3 when it was filmed. Anyway I will digitize it and put that up as a video in the next couple days I think I've already digitized it I'll just have to do a little quick at it on it digitize it using that cloner media box which did a pretty good job. Another video I found was going through some tapes was a inspection I was hired to check out for a local restaurant. They had hired a couple of clowns to put a satellite dish up on the roof for them and the satellite dish wasn't working and it wasn't one of these little dishes it was one of these big 10-foot dishes so I was hired to go and do an inspection I took my camera up to document how the installation was I think I'll put that together and call it how not to install a satellite dish when you guys see it I think they'll be a little bit of laughter as to how these guys put this thing in it was amazing that first of all they got it up on the roof to begin with but the way that they put this thing up there was just ridiculous they had a 10 ft dish held down with about 10 40 lb bags of rocks in plastic bags. You know when you go to home Depot and you buy a bag of decorative rock and it comes in a plastic bag well they just took those plastic bags and use that to weigh down a 10 ft satellite dish to the roof of a building that is going to have winds blow through there I could just picture this thing becoming like a parasail and just flying off the roof with a slight gust of wind that was absolutely ridiculous. I went up there to document this because the establishment was taking the guys that installed it to court so they wanted footage to show what was there and I got the call to come out and just go up there and film it. I didn't even realize I still had a copy of it or the original tape because I taped it and then copied it to VHS and handed it to them and collected my hundred bucks to go up there and film it but now that I found it I think that some of you might find it kind of humorous the way it was put up and the TV antenna too they had a big dish that had a little dish Network dish and they had a pair of rabbit ears just held down with stones it was what I posted you guys will see what I mean it was just it was pretty funny.
