I took the plunge y'all! I am trying the Canon system for the first time with the EOS #R6 + RF 50mm f1.2 L! How does this camera compete with my Sony cameras like the A7IV + 50mm f1.2 GM, better yet, HOW DOES THE SYSTEM COMPLETE AS A WHOLE?? In this video, I am going to talk about my user experience as a whole with Canon, from a Sony fanboys perspective!

WHAT UP YALL! I want to take a moment to send my condolences to all the families affected by yesterdays tragedy. I don't even feel right uploading this right now...but I still gotta do my job. Please keep these families in your hearts and prayers. On to the video - I am testing out some Canon gear just to see what they "other side" looks like, and I gotta admit, there are some things I really LOVE about Canon cameras. I am not changing systems (yet haha), but I want to share some of my experiences with you all now having spent time with both. Thank you for the honest review. Right on point! I switched from the Sony to the Canon system in April 2022 and can't be happier. Images rendered by the R5 and RF L glasses are magical. So much joy taking stills and movies now. Lightning fast eye AF and able to shoot sharp pictures at 1 sec hand held is a game changer.

I’ve used the android and apple comparison for years when comparing Canon to Sony and Nikon. Canon just works. It’s almost dummy proof, which works well for all users. I own Canon, Sony, and Nikon and I use Canon the least. For everyday use, It’s just hard to match the customization of the buttons and the lens options of the Sony. And until recently, Sony and Nikon always had the best dynamic range which always came in hand in post for me when shooting natural light. I’ve also always preferred the files for Nikon raw images over the rest, which explains why I still pick up my Nikon bodies over my Canons. Nice video as always bro.

dope review. an an R6 owner that absolutely loves his camera, and has spent time using the A74 have to agree with most of what you're saying. The canon wins for me every time because its breathed new life into my EF glass.Heck I've even bought two lenses that were Ef because adapting them works so well.

Yes. EF glass is getting cheaper by the day because everyone wants RF, but EF works great with the adapter. Great way to expand your lens collection. I leave the adapter on the camera all the time anyway. It would actually be an inconvenience to take it off for one lens and not the others!

as a canon fanboy, this is such a great and interesting video compariosn. before the canon r or r6, i was seriously considering switching from my canon dslr to sony a7 series. but had no money so i had to hold out and the r6's been great for me. I agree, the canon price for lens are ridicilious, wish there was moer 3rd party like viltrox and samyang for rf mount. I only shoot jpeg and don't really colour grade that much in videos since they're just for fun home videos of my children, so that's a time saver with canon's colour science, keep up the great work, love this video , going to sub and watch all your videos!

very fair coverage of the Canon system. kudos! I feel that Canon takes care of the little details that never get covered by the media because people like to do apples to apples comparisons, but Canon tries to add features that separate them from the crowd. I don't have personal experience with the R6 but I do own the R5 which is a beast. I take the R5 everywhere. People say the best camera is the camera that you have on you. Well, I always have the R5 on me. Yes, even restaurants. That's how much I love my R5. So when I'm at a restaurant, I set the camera to touchscreen shutter and I hand over the camera to the waiter. He looks all funny, wondering how to use it. I say, "Just tap the screen like a smartphone". And boom, picture taken. And I can instantly send it to my phone and share with my friends or onto social media. The Canon touchscreen is just as good as any smartphone touchscreen so anyone that knows how to use pinch to zoom, tap to focus, etc. will feel right at home on the Canon. That kind of stuff doesn't get covered. The touch and drag AF system is just plain awesome. It's something that never gets demonstrated on KZfaq because it's impossible to record because to use the touch and drag system, you have to put your eye to the viewfinder and as far as I know, the no HDMI output will record when your eye is to the EVF. Some people hear how it works and think, oh, Olympus has that. but no other camera system does it the same way. Also, the R3 has the new eye-controlled AF where you just look where you want to focus and it focuses and this system is sick! Let's say you have 3 guys sprinting toward the finish line and you want to focus and photograph each runner. You only have 11 seconds to photograph them before the race is done. So on most cameras, you have to balance focus (pick an aperture where all of them are sharp) because you don't have time to focus individually on each person. But on the R3, you can have individual focus on each one at wide aperture and still have time before the race is over. It's next level once you get used to how it works. As for the native glass, yes, Canon is behind in terms of sheer numbers. But what native glass they have is bonkers. There is no Sony lens like the 28-70 f2. And there are cheap third-party glass, but it's not where it needs to be. For example, a lot of people swear by the Rokinon/Samyang 85 mm 1.4 which is so much cheaper than the Canon RF 1.2 or 1.8. But this is going to fixed over time. Canon is such a market force that lenses will come fast and hard. But the adapter is always there and it's so good. Old EF glass works better on the R series than they ever worked on older Canon cameras. The color science is a funny thing. I never understood the whole "Canon color science is amazing" thing UNTIL I tried native camera profiles in Lightroom. Before, I thought, "raw is raw." I thought camera profiles were just like presets but they're nothing like presets! The first time I set Lightroom to Camera Standard and then started to edit the image... OH MY GOD. My photos went to next level. Then, I understood why Canon fans raved about Canon colors. I had always previously edited in Adobe Color because I didn't know about camera profiles. And editing in Adobe Color, you can still get great pictures but you can't replicate Camera Standard or any of the other Camera profiles. I actually tried! I started at both Camera Standard and Adobe Color and tried to end at the same destination and it's pretty impossible. You end up with a certain look with Camera Standard and a certain look with Adobe Color.

Where is the Camera profiles for the R5 in Lightroom?! Is it under browse, camera matching with the 6 options (standard, neutral, landscape etc)?
@onlysublime
@onlysublime 2 жыл бұрын
@@XxFZLxX yes, those are the profiles that match your camera (if you have an R5 for example). start with any of the camera matching profiles and edit from there. at first, there's an adjustment if you've always edited from Adobe Color. at first, it was a little hard to edit because I was just so used to adobe color. but the results are so much better if you start from one of the canon matching profiles.

@@SuperSupertube123 I heard images are better with canon's software, but when I tried the software I can't imagine doing bulk edits quickly. I need to do hundreds of images at a time. Great video. I hope you’re doing well. From my perspective, I was a Nikon shooter for 10 years and after having a z6ii but wanting to change to something that allowed for 10 bit video, I tested both of these cameras, and for me the Sony is definitely the best one. The reason being is that you can do whatever you want whenever you want. Sounds silly but the r6 and r5 force you to look at the screen to change almost anything. Sony you can set it forget it lol, takes a lot of the stress out of shooting when you have a camera like that. Also Sony uses terminology that is consistent throughout the camera world. servo is not a word used anywhere but canon lol. The last comment I’ll make is that Sony has been introducing future proof tech for a long time. Things like the 50 1.2 on Sony will be a better investment than the 50 1.2 on canon because of the lens’s focus system, linear motors are the future and if I spend $2k on a prime lens that element better not be moving forward and back like a dslr lens from 2007 lol. These are my personal opinions, but I did a lot of research before buying my camera, and the a7iv is easily the best camera out in that price range and Sony’s glass is secretly better than canon’s rf glass. lol hate it if you want but please look up comparison videos Sony is just eating competition right now.

As a fellow KZfaqr, although for different topics, mine is more based on audio, I think you did an outstanding job presenting this. When I first got into this, I got a Canon EOSR and a Sony A7iii at the same time. I was torn from day one. The way you described this, is the exact way I felt trying to figure out which direction I was going to go. I actually preferred the Canon user experience, but ended up committing to Sony based upon the lack of lens selection for the a R-mount. If a person knows they are going to go strictly to either a GM lens for Sony, or an R-mount lens for Canon, I definitely recommend Canon over Sony. That said, the fact that Sigma and Tamron are making incredible lenses at a much more affordable prices these days that can compete with Sony and Canon glass, that gives the edge to Sony for me.

Hey Terry, as a long time Canon user just starting the mirrorless journey, I have to say that you are not wrong about the lenses. Canon is growing the RF line, however for someone just starting with Canon they do need to carefully consider if the lenses they need/want are available. For myself, and anyone else that has already been using Canon, the lens adapter makes a lot of sense. It will be great to see some more third party support come online though, which I am sure it will. I enjoyed your fair comparison. It really boils down to the fact that you can't really go wrong no matter which camera system you choose to go with these days.

Sony having more mp, but also suffered from dust on sensor and lenses. Not an issue on Canon at all. I also had issues with moire in clothes shooting with the Sony. Not an issue with canon so far. One big plus for Sony is the custom hold shoot sets. You can assign about a dozen settings to a single button on the back. You can be in manual mode and hold down one button and it will switch you to aperture priority with about a dozen other settings that you've pre adjusted. You can hold down a different back button and suddenly switch to shutter property with a bunch of settings to go with that. Canon cannot do that yet.

Well after several more wives I married the perfect woman and on me birthday she let me dip my toe back into photography and I didn’t hesitate to get an RP. Just to start into digital and not film. Hell I used to have my own darkroom!!!!! Well yeah I know it’s not R6 or R5, but I’m blown away with this entry level camera, and it does more I can imagine!!!!! I’ve never had a Sony in my hand and I don’t know if I ever will, because just as you said the Sony is good for you right now, the Canon is “friendly” for me. I know it’s a pick sides kind of thing for everybody, and you’ve got a ton of money invested in the Sony system, and your treading water after losing your job. Fair and as neutral as possible comparison, Thanks for that: I use Canon and entered the DSLR regime 17 years ago with a 60mm Macro lens and bought roughly 10 medium expensive lenses. The lenses kept me buying less and less expensive bodies - 3 x M50(ii) at the moment - which have great image and video quality if FullHD is sufficient. I use 98% adapted glass so finally the adapter sticks on the cameras. Only the EF-M 32 1.4 is important for me and has the right to be connected directly on the M50s. Planning to use the R7 soon with the - you mentioned that - filter adapter and maybe the Canon speed booster ... if Canon supports it on the R7.

great video bro! as a big user of both sony and canon in the field, i can agree with most of what you said. only area you lost me at is the build! for me, sony id leagues ahead of canon in build. the angular design is so much more appealing to me and calls back to those Spartan style film cameras. everything from the buttons and dials and all else feel much much better on sony. canons feel like toys to me, ESPECIALLY the DSLR bodies like the 5D series. the RF glass does feel amazing, i’ll give it that. but it’s awesome to hear different opinions. keep it up bro

Glass is a valid point. But the video part where you can assign 3 videos modes 24, 30, 120 fps is probably the best positive on the Sony for a hybride shooter.

I started using canon 12 years ago when my daughter was born and I wanted to take nice photos of her. I went from a t2i to a 7D to 5d mark iii then a 5d mark iv and then to EOS R and now I’m Using an R6. I’m a happy camper. Canon gives me what I need. The EOS system is very good. And you’re right, every time I use a Sony camera I have a hard time figuring out the menu, specially when setting it up for a video shoot. They have dozens of formats. They remind me of Nikon cameras where the lenses zoom in the opposite way and the way the menu is laid out is sometimes confusing. I guess if I use it long enough I could become used to it. Thanks for This video. My next camera might be the next blackmagic 6k pro (the next upgrade) Your thoughts on that.

Hi there. I do have the Sony A7iii. I am curious, because I only have the use of my left hand. I cradle the base of the camera while wrapping the lower portion of the lens. Ergonomically the Sonny feels great based on the use of my left hand. Could you do a video or send me an email or a comment to see if the canon feels better while trying to shoot left handed

Really nice and fair review well done , I chose canon before Sony cause I only shoot still and love the rf and ef glass to. Sure more people wish they where more lenses but they have what I need . Yes it’s bad they don’t support third party lenses but they didn’t do it with Ef either so I’m sure Sigma and tamron will start to produce soon

This is so refreshing, an unbiased view which from my opinion tells it how it is. I have had both systems and now have an R6 & R5 and bought all RF glass as I have been so impressed. The quality is better but for that it does cost more. Sony will always have higher specs and if that is what you need then maybe that is your calling. But reliability is not as good, the feel of the cameras in the hand are worlds apart and the canon’s are so much nicer to use in terms of the menu’s and touch screens. The android and iPhone analogy is exactly right. Sony’s are excellent camera’s and full on tech which previously had an edge, but more recently Canon have the quality, reliability and user experience nailed down and the choice is whether that matters enough to you to pay more for it?

Excellent commentary, etc. I'm sporting the Sony A7iv. So far, it is the best camera I've worked with. Color science wise, I have what I consider to be an unusual experience with Sony. When I shoot in SLog3, my skin tones turn out fine. I don't see any issues. But, when I shoot in S-Cinetone, my skin comes out more yellow. Which is strange to me because it's supposed to be more balanced. But, that's my experience. Speaking of Canon, had I not picked up the A7iv, I would seriously consider the new R7. Yes, it is a crop sensor, but what Canon has done with it in the R7 - 7K down sampled to 4K - including the ability to shoot in 10-bit 422 4K. all for $1,499, the R7 is a pretty nice camera. But, the A7iv is an amazing camera to me. And since I already have it, I won't be switching systems any time soon. And, as you pointed out, Sony has more lens choices - at better prices - than Canon has with the RF mount. I own all Sony FE lenses, and I think they hold their own pretty damn well. Anyway, thanks for dropping some great content. Cheers.

Very fair review. Sony was ahead in image quality for a few years but the Canon R5/R6 closed the gap. I was close to buying Sony for quite a few years but every time I tried the cameras I just hated their ergonomics and UI. Although their ergonomics have improved, the reasons for switching from Canon no longer exist. You can't go wrong with either system - if I was starting out from scratch it would be a very difficult choice.

You did an awesome job comparing these two units! I've always used the Apple/Android analogy myself and glad to hear you using it in a really practical example! I own the R6 currently but plan to move to the A7IV for a more diverse lens ecosystem and better video options!

Wouldn’t the R5C or the new R7 etc fit more? The canons usually have the better nitrates and video quality and there also seems to be not video limit or heating on those. Plus the lens selection is actually bigger as the systems are made to take any EF lens too

@@Seitenwerk It would absolutely solve me needing more video heavy capabilities but I'm more of an enthusiast that needs both photo/video capabilities and couldn't justify that much on a body alone.

Pretty good review and I do like the analogy of Android v IOS ! The deciding factor is what glass do you currently own before buying Canon or Sony ! If you are a Canon dslr and have ef L glass then R6, R5, R7 is tye way forward, if you are new to photograph then Sony is a sound choice .

I have a canon RP and a Sony A7iv and even tho the Rp is the lowest in the R class I still prefer taking pictures and hobby stuff with it while my Sony became my bigger/paid production camera ... I plan on upgrading the RP to a R6 after I get all the glass I currently need for the RF line before switching over the bodies ... great video man!

Really enjoyed this video and your honest review. I use Sony (A6400) for my real estate work and Canon for everything else. Just upgraded my Canon 5D MKIII to the R5. My personal preference is the Canon due to more familiarity and the menu system. The autofocus on the R5…wow! Fair video and I really enjoyed it sir! All of the option buttons are customizable on my Canon RP. They have dual options for video and photography. I can program all the buttons to anything I want. I would assume the R6 would have the same system of customization. He is correct that the C1,2,3 on the dial is only for still photography. But there are other buttons you can use to select different video modes.

Love how you keep it real Bruh . I recently purchased the R6 , come from Nikon D800 . I’m not bashing Sony at all , as they all have their strengths and weaknesses, but unlike the Sony and Nikon D7ii , when I picked up the R6 in the store it felt perfect ergonomically. Wish it had a 30 meg sensor , but it is what it is

I've been doing real estate photography for the past 4 years. I'm shooting with a Canon 6D Mark II my lens is an ef17 - 44 mm. I feel like I've hit a wall. I'm so frustrated with my setup. Photos are kind of fuzzy. Doesn't do very good in low light. Color balance is always off. Anyone out there got any recommendations? I want my shots to be tax sharp and brilliant. I use a tripod, I use a trigger and I use two flashes. I feel like my camera and glass are my week link now.
