Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G lens 10Bit 4K Video Test (Shot it on A7IV in Tokyo Japan)
Took me a couple of years, finally completing all 3 videos. The FE 24mm f/2.8 G, FE 40mm f/2.5 G and FE 50mm f/2.5 G.
I always been a big fan of compact lenses. In the past having a small compact full frame lens is almost impossible. Not until these three lenses.
I reckon this is probably the best full frame travel lens from Sony. Its super light weight and compact. But you still have the G quality. Although it might not have the fastest aperture. (Only f/2.8) But f/2.8 bokeh is pretty decent on a full frame body actually. The only thing I would say is maybe if this lens was 18mm or 20mm. That would have been perfect for travel.
One thing you you guys might have noticed, I did not use ND filters a lot in this video. Because half way through the shoot I realized my NiSi True Color ND-VARIO Pro Nano 1 to 5-Stop Variable ND Filter wasn’t behaving that well. Some shots I got really blue corners. But some I did not have it. And because the whole video process took me over 10 days to do in Japan. Some shots I couldn’t even go back and re-shoot it. Such as the the “Shibuya Sky” scenes. You guys might have seen the Shibuya Sky behind the scenes on my KZfaq shorts. All those scenes got colour shifted, so I had to cut them all out unfortunately. Lucky I do check my videos quite often when I get back to the hotel. So after that, I decided not to use that ND filter anymore for the second half of the review. I still don’t know what happened. That NiSi True Color-ND supposed to have no color shifting at all. Maybe I got a bad copy or something.
Over all, I love this little tiny 24mm full frame lens. Its so compact. Makes you wanna carry it out all the time. So people might think f/2.8 is a bit slow. But I think when I go on holiday I rather have everything in focus than crazy creamy bokeh.
Places that I went in this video
Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo
Gotokuji Temple
Ginza
Tokyo Station
Shijuku
Fujiko-Museum
Things I learnt in Japan
Shooting in Japan is super fun. But also can be very challenging. Because you gotta be very careful about the lighting. When I was shooting the Shibuya crossing scene. (FE 14mm Review) There were about 3 to 4 hours the sun just hitting half of the building. Before I didn’t care so much, I just work with it. But now I can’t just leave it and hope that I could recover the highlights and shadows in post. So I waited for couple of hours then go back and do the shots again. I mean that’s only when you have time to go back and re-shoot it. Sometime you can’t even go back as you have next location to go.
