The IER-Z1R is probably the best product to come from Sony's Signature headphone line-up so far.

@protato911
@protato911 4 жыл бұрын
@@Sheisintomalakasdino the best sounding IEM i ever own and some of the best sound thing I ever heard. It's truely amazing how much soundstage they pack into such a tiny IEM. This thing isn't use for mixing ofcourse, but it's as musical as it gets. The bass is great, not as much as some people expect but the quality of the bass is unbeatable. To me the highlight is the female vocal, it can be a bit recess to some but to me it's realistic, there are so much emotion and souls in the way it present it that you have to try it to believe it. The male vocal is to me the only weakness of the z1r, not bad mind you but certainly not the best i ever heard and can seems a bit weak. The high is great, it hit the right spot but not harsh , though you need to get the right fit for it. Overall I say for 2k it's still very expensive but pretty hard to beat too. There are IEM that cost way more but sound no where as good, but again sound is subjective, try it out yourself is the best way to know for sure.

Just bought a pair of these and hooked them up to a Chord Hugo 2. The combination is magical and the IER-Z1Rs tame the brightness of the Hugo to give a smooth extremely detailed sound that I can listen to for hours. These are the best IEMs I've owned but if I had one complaint, it's the case that comes with them. It is shockingly crap for a set of £2K earphones, it's like it was an afterthought with a silly rubbery band to hold the IEMs that doesn't then sit in the case properly because there is a peg sticking up from the bottom in the middle. Very odd!

Thank you for the review, been waiting for a review of IER-Z1R. A question have you ever tried listening this IER with other device such as NW-WM1a or WM1Z. I also usually use the ZX300. But on my friend's WM1 and WMZ sounds different for the IER-M7 and M9? So sometime I do wonder if the IER-Z1R would sound even better on better DAC or high-end device? Only just recently able to test out a few campfire IER. Again great review, for us IER enthusiast we are appreciate your hard work.
@MinidiscAu
@MinidiscAu 4 жыл бұрын
Having looked at the impedance curve for the IER-Z1R, I would expect it to have slightly more treble as output impedance lowers, ie: it should sound like it has more treble on the NW-WM1A (~1 ohm z-out) than the ZX300 (~2.5ohm z-out): www.0db.co.kr/index.php?mid=REVIEW_0DB&page=2&document_srl=639824 I would not expect it to be a drastic difference, but in my brief listen I found it to be slightly sharper sounding on the Chord Mojo (0.7 ohms) for instance. This might be opposite to the behavior of the IER-M7 and M9, I have not seen the impedance curves for those.... - Lachlan

 @Minidisc so what are your favorite player for IER-Z1R, i found in head-fi forum they are arguing the ZX300 is better than NW-WM1A the sound signature is ZX300 is very close to NW-WM1A you argree?, and when you upgrade to lastest frimware you got another signature sound...
@sunnysunshine9016
@sunnysunshine9016 3 жыл бұрын
@@madz6n6 I have WM1A and ZX300 now, still haven't brought the IER-Z1R. But just saying that ZX300 with MrWalkman firmware update this year verions 2020, sound a lot closer to WM1A. Sounded really good. If you have the Zx300 recommended to upgrade firmware. And if you don't like it, you can always put back the original firmware.

How does it compete with the M9 in terms of signature and technicalities?
@MinidiscAu
@MinidiscAu 4 жыл бұрын
They are not really the same signature. The Z1R I would say is overall a bit dryer and thinner sounding than the M9, but there are a lot of little nuances to that. I think the M9 has more mid-bass bloom whereas the Z1R sounds a bit flatter in the bass, but the bass also has more resonant timbre thanks to the dynamic driver (so perhaps slower and more natural). The treble doesn't have the same metallic shimmer the M9 has, and instead sounds much more natural. Soundstage is wider on the Z1R, as expected. Overall I prefer the Z1R, but the M9 is more comfortable for long wear. - Lachlan

If you have a moment Lachlan, sorry for this off topic question, I picked up a set of the Andromeda S and have been looking for a good source. Actually just purchased a ZX300 based on your other video, and the recommendations on SBAF. In your opinion, what is a good DAP to pair with the Andro S and it's wonky impedance curve? Will the ZX300 drop the midbass even further, or is it a decent match?
@MinidiscAu
@MinidiscAu 4 жыл бұрын
The ZX300 is actually a pretty good match - I use my Andro S with the 4.4mm output of the ZX300 the slightly higher output impedance does make the Andro S sound less warm. I think the 4.4mm also hisses slightly less. I also recommend using Azala Sedna tips or another wide bore tip, as that also helps to open up the sound. It will still end up being warmer than the regular Andro but I really do love the sound. - Lachlan

Finally got mine and spend 2 days listen to it. And I have to say I am really impressed, the build quality is insane and the cables are some of my favourite IEM cable so far. Fits is a bit tricky but I decide to go with Dekoni foam tips and have no problem afterward. The IEM also needs quite a bit of power to power them properly so using a AMP is recommended. Interms of sound, these are some of the best IEM i ever heard which is very surprising to me since I don't really like Sony house sound and the irm z1r is just ok to me. The soundstage is superwide though still retain pretty good imaging capability, very good detail and separation. Bass are detail and well tuned, the best I ever heard, Vocal are a bit recess but still have a lot of detail and sound fantastic especially Female Vocals, though Male Vocals lacks power in some case, though still pretty good. High are detailed and well tune, some of the best I ever heard. Overall I think that for most people the IEM isn't worth its asking price, even when I got mine for 1500usd, I still think its very expensive, however it does allow me to listen to my music in the best way possible so aside from the price, there isn't much to complain. Also for anyone insane enough to use this for gaming, I say it's a fantastic gaming IEM too.
