Precog, you rule. I find most iem reviews, written and recorded boring. Especially the ones that just can't bring themselves to say anything explicitly critical of anything (Head-Fi I'm looking at you). You go in to a lot of depth and take the time to explain what the heck it is you're talking about. Thank you!

In the Z1R frequency response graph, what are the green and blue line standing for? If that is representing L and R, then it's scary to see a 5db difference at 6K between the L & R.

Thank you mama, thank you dad - no issue for me with fit! Got them a week ago and I am shocked by the IER-Z1R. I wish I could return 95% of my 10 year collection of iems. Guess will keep only the IE80, IE800, the UM Mest, the LZ A6, the FDX1 and 2-3 more. The only one that competes with Z1R, is the Mest, and might be the U12t. But none, except the Mest and the Z1R, has the perfection, imaging and staging of a TOTL open headphone.

Several reviewers have asserted the Z1R doesn't fit well. I've had mine for just over a week now and I find they're the most comfortable, best fitting IEMs I've ever used, including the Beyerdynamic Xelento. As for tuning, I have everything from classical, jazz, 1940s, 50s, 60s..., Latin, international, etc. everything, absolutely everything sounds amazing through these IEMs - provided you use a good DAC/amp and high resolution files (e.g., FLAC). I understand the criticism of male vocals the least. I've listened to Tom Waits, Bowie, Lou Reed, The Beatles, Elton John, Jethro Tull, Rolling Stones, Jonathan Richman, Talking Heads... they all sound excellent. If you've got the $$$, get these, you won't regret it.

@@kaankucuk1612 I've read a few very negative comments about the fit in forums like Head-Fi. All I can say is that they're the best fitting IEMs I've ever owned, and the bonus is that they stay in place no matter what I'm doing. Your experience may be different.

@Precogvision
@Precogvision 3 жыл бұрын
The Odin’s tuning is actually pretty similar - generally, at least - up until the treble. The biggest difference is that it doesn’t dip from 2-3kHz and female vocals are much fuller. I prefer the Odin here. Treble on the Odin is very smooth; maybe a little too smooth. It doesn’t extend quite as far and transient attack is generally softer compared to the Z1R here. So, Odin hits closer to neutral whereas I’d say the Z1R leans more V-shaped as a result. In terms of technicalities, Odin is more resolving, coherent, and sports better positional cues. At the same time, though, it doesn’t match the Z1R’s terrific imaging chops and staging. Both of them have some degree of macrodynamic compression, but the Z1R comes off as more dynamic in my book. On paper, I’m going to say Odin is more well-rounded. But there are certain qualities the Z1R sports which the Odin, and other IEMs, just don’t have.

I wonder why they haven’t improved the shape of these to make them fit more people. I will definitely buy one if they change the shape of it.
@zach2954
@zach2954 3 жыл бұрын
Well the bulky design isn't just for looks, it's actually creates a large chamber helping to provide a large soundstage and "airiness". They definitely aren't the comfiest IEMS, and some can't even tolerate the fit at all. Probably if they reduce the chamber size they're essentially removing all of the key sound characteristics of the IEM.
@zach2954
@zach2954 3 жыл бұрын
If you like sony sound signature and BA iems, the IER-M9 is very nice as well, it has a more mid-bass focus instead of the Z1R's sub bass. It's also insanely comfortable, unlike it's older brother.

@@zach2954 there are so many comfortable iems out there that sound amazing. Surely they could improve the shape and keep the sound the same.
@allydea
@allydea 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnhayes8476 Not really. Have a look at the Sony video discussing the IER. The shape is due to some design choices, like having coaxial drivers pointing directly to your ear canal.

There is a big difference between drivers from sony. They build their drivers with coppers and looks very different and they bigger. Sony balance drivers in use with a chamber that only sony does it kick ass. But the best from sony for me. Is the guitars and voice. Thick with 300hz to 500hz boosted up for a realist voice. Many reviews talk about treble,fun,balance ,but they into recording music like I am,then they would know that we always set the mic eq and low pass for a realist thick voice, always and so as guitars.allways thick and not bright . And for me only sony managed to bring that realistic sound to me within my 40 iems. Now I want to get the m9 for sure

The bass of the IER Z1R is not very bassy I think it is closer to what bass in real life is when you are close to a drummer you can hear the strong bass kick drum so IEMs that barely have bass feel boring unatural at least to me

@dirty_dan75158
@dirty_dan75158 11 ай бұрын
Absolutely! Although now Precog actually prefers the Sennheiser IE900's bass to the IER-Z1R, the Z1R is still his top 2. I personally still prefer the Z1R's bass as it extends a little more in the sub bass than the IE900 and has more density for those low notes on hip hop and electronic. Treble has better timbre on the Z1R and no contest when it comes to soundstage, Z1R is much more holographic than IE900. Even in 2023, the IER-Z1R hasnt moved away from anyone's top IEMs!
