Just so you know, you aren't just a hero to your sister. Providing these invaluable tutorials to so many puts you in that category . Where else can we get such informative and educational videos. I am constantly amazed how you are able to diagnose and repair so many different pieces of equipment and in such a short amount of time. I guess that was a requirement when you worked for a company. As a hobbyist I can spend days if I want working on something. No one would pay me to do that. Thanks from all the thumbs up watchers. And to those few thumbs downers, remove your head from the orifice and insert your thumb !

We have a late model 2007 Sony Bravia model KDL-40V2500 bought new. It was turning off and immediately back on sometimes very very short intervals and some long. Annoying! Some days it worked fine. Tried unplugging (30 seconds) and resetting with power button and volume switch. No help. Took out (heavy TV!) to my hot humid SW Florida garage and removed the back unplugged from AC of course. Get your Phillips (small and large size end) and Look for all arrows pointing to screw holes. There’s 2 smaller ones dead center!! Gently Pull off back. Now, lower bottom center left there’s a small white clip that connects power to a board from a shiny metal egg shaped housing where the thick ac power cord connects to. We Disconnected and cleaned male and female with electronic spray (plastic safe dry cleaning fluid in a can Home Depot). Air hosed entire back. Turned it on and let it run for an hour in my hot humid garage (92 degrees) with no issues. The top did get hot so thinking it wasn’t heat issues making it act up. Cleaned dusty back panel with spray soap and garden hose. Let dry completely…… it ran perfectly for another hour. Reinstalled rear panel and brought inside ac’d home. Still running with no glitches so far. I like the set. Yes it’s old but really nice picture. Not many hdmi in’s but it has a Headphone jack! Good luck. No guarantees. Cheers

I think I'm having the same issues with my KDL-40V2500. Also bought mine new back in 2007, back when Circuit City was around. Never had one problem with her until now. Just all of a sudden, the screen blinks on and off several times, then the power button goes off then back on then the screen goes back to blinking off and on. Not sure if it's a bad AC power cord or an issue with the main board. I was going to try the route of purchasing a new ac power cord for about $9 but from your post, it sounds like all it needs is a good cleaning. Love this TV, beautiful picture, hate to get rid of it but it's bit of a monster to handle. I appreciate your post.

Have you worked on any 32" Emerson LCD/LED TVs that won't turn on? I've got 2 of them, the first one won't turn on at all and only produces standby voltages about half of what they should be. The second one will turn on the PS for a few seconds and has the correct voltages but then it shuts off again. I can't find a schematic for the PS but I've checked almost everything on the boards and can't find anything wrong.

I have a Bravia myself. My dad built an extension to my entertainment center because the set was too wide (the entertainment center was designed for those big CRT sets, but still not wide enough for a flatscreen), so now it sticks out a little in front; perfect because the stand swivels a little so I can access the ports on the back and hook up gaming devices.

I have the Sony kdl48r510c . During power-on, the screen lights up with 4-6" wide vertical bars behind the Sony logo. The Sony logo turns slowly from white to green and then slowly fades. At this point, I have a totally black screen except for the back-light. None of the on-tv buttons cause any display changes on the tv. Using the source button, I cycle through the inputs which has my computer plugged in. I feel like the main board may be damaged, since the computer doesn't sense that the tv is plugged in when it is on. Is there any diagnostics available via the network connection? The link comes up when I plug it into my computer, but I don't detect any traffic coming from it... --update-- I replaced the main board and still have the exact same symptoms...$50 wasted... It seems the tcon function is integrated into the main board on this unit and just has a ribbon cable from the main board to the board at the bottom of the screen that connects to the panel. This board is at least two feet long and has ribbon cables that wrap under the screen that are directly attached...no socket. Ideas? Thanks for your videos!

I wonder is it the TCON Board acting up again if so then would a large sink attached to the TCON Board and Dremil out out a portion of the case of the set to accommodate the heatsink, If you have a old Film-Net decoder I think it can be made to work as a video scrambler.

Sounds like it was some sort of chip creep type scenario - the cables to the TCON board became loose from constantly being heated and then cooled.
@12voltvids7 жыл бұрын
Yes possibly, or there was just some oxidation that crept into one of the connectors and causes resistance to increase above the threshold.

One other thing with the lcd panel to t-con board is to clean the contacts on the flexible loom and also at on the t-con board, dust build up and the contacts becoming tarnished are a problem and not only with Sony televisions. A ink rubber makes a good devise for cleaning the gold contacts on the flexible looms and good old contact cleaner to finish off.

Had a number to Sony televisions that had both a digital and analog tuner built in. The problem was that the digital Tuner had stopped working . the fault is in of the little smd fuses on the digital tuner board that had gone O/C . It's rated at about 700 Ma . replace with a 1000 Ma . Re tune and job done. A bit daunting at first , but i had done this repair in the home.

Hi Dave! Greetings from south of the world! I am been having bad luck lately, my sony XBR55X800E got broken during a thunderstorm. Every other device in the house is fine. I checked the psu and it works. Then checked the main board and I see there are two blown IC's right next to the ethernet port. So, probably the discharge came from there. Ever had any experience with that situation? Could be solvable or just get a new main card or new tv?

Argh. No luck on my KDL46VE5 (basically the same model and year). Although it seemed to work, the BL came on then off then back on again and stayed. But the TV was locked up. The power button and remote didn't do anything. I had to hard power it off. Seems it does this when you pull the power cord while it's powering on. Messed with the other T-Con wires, now the BL powers on for 2 seconds then off, and after about 29 seconds it powers off. Before I moved around those ribbon cables it did power off after about 12-13 seconds. I wish I could easily get to the other side of those ribbon cables, they seem to be plugged into connectors at the top edge of the TV. A ribbon cable plugged into a hard to get at connector is a bad design idea.

What we have here is a failure to communicate , :) Interesting how boards and components need to "communicate" to operate properly. I wonder how deep this goes? Is it possible there are communications happening that we do not see or understand ? Perhaps in terms of Permeability or Temperature? I enjoy your videos, you are skilled at what you do. My father was big into fixing CRT's back in the day, we as a family of 5 always had a basement full of backless CRT's. :)

I've recently fixed 2 Vizio TVs with bad solder joints on the board-to-board connector. One board had a pin connector, and the other had a socket connector. The socket connector had all bad solder joints, about 16, that resulted in the connector to wiggle. Bad factory solder job. Speaking of Vizio, I just had to eWaste a 70" 2013 model yesterday due to a bad panel. They used a Sharp LCD, and you get what you pay for on that one.

I have a similar symptom with my Sony KDL-55V5100 set, but reseting the connections shown in the video did not resolve the issue. With mine the backlight comes on at 6 seconds but shuts down at 8 seconds. Then the set itself shuts down at 17 seconds. No flashing lights on the front - just the solid green light for 17 seconds. Do these clues lead to another diagnosis? Happened during our vacation and grandkids had access to the remote. Is there anything they could do from the remote that would break the set and if so is that another clue?

Repairings for the masses,televisions are repaired without even removing a board from its place.But in the real world all the enlighted enthusiasts will think that the technician that took hours for the tv repairing and components parts replacing is trying to cheat them just because having in mind that he lock a screw or remount a flex cable in its socket.
@12voltvids4 жыл бұрын
In many cases it is a bad ground or oxidation on a flex cable that causes the fault. Of course when I was in the business this was never what the customer was told. There was always a part that needed replacing so the 100+ repair bill could be justified. I just followed the rules because it wasn't my shop.
@GeorgeGeorge-xj2bc4 жыл бұрын
About the customers opinions for the repairings.Few days ago an "well informed" customer brought a relative large UPS with onboard batteries told that the capacitors probably had problem despite the fact that no one was bulged as he said to me because he knew but it is better to check it myself.In fact was the batteries failed because measured in open circuit 40v then dropped to 5v in circuit and never get charged and the genius measured them only in open circuit and he found them very good.I tested with a bench supply of 31v max and then blower and inverter started showing low bat led.When he came to pick it said the enthusiast if we can connect another one supply in series to raise the voltage to test and the led readings also.That was my greatest mistake because the second one supply was swithing type and had the minus of the secondaries connected with the mains ground and when connected to the ups input of batteries the isolation had gone and burned down the processor.I made a large mistake but in the other hand was one the larger joy of 30 years of my professional electronics carrer and i wanted to kick him laughing.His batteries and my pocket in the ending left without being charged.

Mark Anderson this set went up on the bench around 6 and I didn't get it going until about 1130. now I wasn't working on it constantly but I did spend much time checking fuses and voltages. to test the transformers on the right inverter you have to remove the main board to get the screws which I did without disconnecting anything. this takes time and the fuses on this board are microscopic. using big magnifier to see them. as they were all good no need to show. if I had found a bad one I would have turned on the camera to show it like I did to demo the test of the inverter transformers.

Somebody was skipping ahead and not paying attention. The video was very clear. It was shutting down untill I disconnected the panel from the TCON, and once I reconnected it the problem was solved. Coss of communication between TCON and and panel driver ICs that are on the FPC tabs. Around the 4 minute mark is when I got into the FPC connectors. The test of the lamp current sense later on was for reference only.
