Thanks for this very helpful video! I got a 333 cheap off ebay as parts not working. I had the exact same experience that you did with the Chinese part. (Probably the same seller). Found it for sale for $35 and 999 in stock. Couple days after I ordered it, I get a message saying, "Part not in stock, pleased to cancel you order" or something to that effect. Thankfully, I was able to find the laser here in America, new old stock, so didn't have to deal with the extra expenses in buying from Germany. Went through your video several times for reference and was able to put the new laser on no problem. The laser disc player works good as new now (except for the door, I need to find a belt for that one day). I watched Predator on it to properly initiate it. Thanks so much!

Just received one 533D and it have the same problems than yours. I hope cleaning the laser and putting grease will do the thing, 120€ for the laser unit is a lot of money, don’t know if it worth it. Thanks for the laser reference mate, from Spain have a great day!

Good video explained very well the details for to replace the optical pick head KHS-130A for this Sony LD Player MDP 333.I have the same LD Player MDP-333 and needs to replace this same optical pick up head ,but the problem is that Sony no makes more this spare part.(optical pick up head KHS-130A).I decided to buy it by I site that have sellers that sells it in OEM version,because ,Luke I said, Sony not have it more.If you see the optical pick ups are the same ,not have some diference ,buy when you put it for to play they can't play.I bought four optical pick up heads and they not worked. I guessed from one of my friends a original optical pick up Sony KHS130A that he have of his Sony LD player and when I putted it on my MDP333 it worked greats. Play lds,cdvs and CDs too. Like now not have more original kHs130A for to sell more from Sony Company,I'd Like that You 'd said me, if have some detail that I have to make for to put these optical pick up heads khs130a that I bought in OEM in condition fo to works good in my LD player. I try to make some adjusts in track,focus ,buy with no sucess,please if possível you help me I'd became very agreement with tour atention.With best regards. ,

Great work, man! You really have to be a Laserdisc lover to spend such this amount of euros! A good Sony DVD player would have cost less than half of all your investiment. Anyway I would be very happy to see it running perfectly again! Congrats!

ugh, that tray loading belt! My tray jumped a few teef and I had problem aligning those gears. service Manual Shows an alignment but that didnt work for me and didn't show HOW to load the tray. Kept on trying each combo, but what finally worked was turning those gears (aligned in Service Manual) a bit to engage the teefs and eventually found a spot that worked! once loading, don't frick with them. :L

do you still repair laserdisc players? if so, where are you located?

Great video! Glad you were able to get it up and running again! I've got the North American version of that player and had the same issue with the tray not being able to push the door open. Replaced the belt a few times now over the years. Luckily, the laser's still working on mine, but now I know what I'm in for if I ever have to do a replacement! Thanks for sharing!

I had a loose loading belt so I put it in boiling water for a few seconds and added a small amount of lithium grease. That fixed it. This also worked in a Xbox drive loading belt..

Thanks for making this video. I have a Sony MDP-510 that is having issues with playing Laserdiscs but it seems to play one particular audio CD fine for a bit and then the audio starts to flutter after playing. Laserdiscs have distorted pic & audio and the Laserdisc spins down and stops. Trying to get it up and running to watch the three original Star Wars movies I bought on LD way back in '90.

I have the MDP-640D which also plays NTSC discs, it does need a belt change, luckily they cost only 5 EUR from Germany.

Thank you for the video. I hope you can help me with a good advice. I have Sony MDP-650D Laserdisc player with some problem. The player doesn't spin the disc. After inserting the disc (no matter CD or LD), push 'PLAY', the laser moves, changes positions, but the disc still not moving/not spinning. On the display it does say 'DISC' if I insert LD and if I insert CD it does say 'NO DISC'. I believe that laser is bad, I need to replace it. But, still, why does the disc doesn't spin even if the laser is bad? I saw you playing Mickey LD, I admire the quality of the picture (sharp & clear). What kind of connection do you use with your TV? I have another Sony ES Laserdisc player with scart connection, I really do not like the quality, it's not sharp enough. I believe scart is not the best connector in combination of LD-player and TV. i do not think the lasers are dead entirely. so i put in a japanese anime laserdisc it worked. but any other disc will not play only this one anime disc plays. thanks for this info. i have this same problem on mine.

I have a sony laserdisc player (video looked great but did not play any sound) and a shop diagnosed it with the same problems yours had. (belt and laser too dim) Would you be interested in trying to fix it or adding it to your collection for parts? If none of the laserdisc collectors on youtube seem interested, I'll just sell it for parts but I'd like to give a dedicated enthusiast the chance first.

@3:32 ok... How did you know the Laser was "Bad" ? Just because it did not light up? Maybe the front panel read out indicated something that revealed it was bad? Probably both... I am guessing... But I see the NEW laser doing it's little dance, and maybe the "Bad" laser did not dance? IMHO
