I SO wanted to get the NEX-5N(/R/T) until I heard the Nikon 1 V1 and V2 has much less moire and aliasing, and phase detection that works in a larger range of stops in video than the NEX-5N. Too bad as a constant aperture power zoom is coming out for the NEX but the video zoom for the Nikon 1 is not constant aperture and might introduce flicker during the zoom unless (a high f-stop can be fixed?) - although it seems a great zoom that focuses fast enough to seem parfocal. Is all this right?

Yes you are right. Worth noting that only lenses with internal motors will have AF with FT1.

Please watch Part 2 of this comparison for movie shooting. 5N has an overheating problem, so I would suggest V1. Also check out Panasonic GH2, which is very popular among videographers.

I would probably pick V1 for features and optical viewfinder. Once you will get used to it you can look around knowing what you want in a camera. Up to 1200fps video, manual control for up to 1080p 60fps plust RAW is a sweet deal for anyone willing to experiment. Considering the price of V1 it is no brainer. However if you are serious into starting - NEX will draw you more in with shallow depth of field and amount of lenses it can take via cheap adapters. And it also has all manual settings.

5N has a manual focus ring, V1 has a thumb dial. 5N also has peaking, so it's much easier to MF. Both are fine for vacation pics.

It's true the DSLRs give more control. I think in this case the only true advantages are the smaller size (there is still a significant difference even though it's not pocketable) and lighter weight.

The sensor crop factor with the nikon v1 is caused by a ridiculously small sensor compared to the sony's aps-c sensor. Yeah you get great zoom but not the individual pixel quality of the Sony new series.

can this mirrorless camera be preferred over a DSLR ? NEX also have P,A,S,M modes like DSLR... SO will it give same image quality as that of a DSLR ? Pls share some pro and cons tnx in advance

Take a look at the new power 16-50mm E mount by sony, it's much smaller.

Canon is about to announce their new interchangeable mirroless cameras in June 2012. I am waiting for them before deciding to buy a Sony. With a Canon, I can auto focus with my Canon lenses. :D

NEX 3N OR 5 ???? or Nikon j4 3 2 ?

1) 5n has bigger lens, but the height of body is lower, so i can put it in side pocket of my autumn jacket. I would not have this chance with nikon. And now i have new 16-50mm collapsible zoom, so its realy small. 2) To test autofocus you should try to focus on close and distant objects alternately. You didn't do this with nikon.

Actually that is not true. A DSLR has a bit more accessoires to connect (remote controls e.g.), but other than that you don't have more control than on a NEX-5. You do have more direct control on higher level DSLRs due to more direct buttons and dials, but that you have on higher NEXes as well (NEX-7 has 3 dials!!).

i know more pixel doesnt mean better quality but actually nex 7 picture quality is really better than 5n. If you need 5n i suggest you to wait one or two month because there will be a replacement soon.

Well if your like me the its not the fact of getting a good camera well it sort of is but its the fact of portability i have a dslr already and wanna get he Sony for my suitcase instead of hulcing on a dslr then just bring my lenses its just so much more portable. If you want it pocketable then buy a standard PAS

Sony 5N picture quality is second to none for APS-C sensor size, so for image quality I would choose 5N. It's actually better quality than NEX-7.

i have nex 5n and nex 7. nex 7 has better image quality. But sometimes i like to carry 5n. it's more tiny and i don't care having more pixels, 16mpix is enough.

i think the j1 would have been a better comparison the v1 is bigger in every way and has basically the same functions/image quality.

You would expect Sony's Nex 5 to have better image quality justifying that most new cameras now are using Sony made image sensors....

It made it possible for Daniel to create photos which leave you with that wow-effect when you take a look at them. Hopefully it helps you as well...

$800? No it is not. $400-450 max. Here in Europe with 10-30mm lens - €300, that would translate to ~$400. If you can't find it for under $450 - I would highly recommend looking into NEX 6. Should be slightly over $800 with new type compact 18-55mm kit lens. The only reason I was recommending the Nikon V1 is for low price here. Other than that - sorry but no. It has 2.7x crop and that is mad. Unless you are into tele-photography (birds and similar) - any lens other than kit is not really usable.

Hey there, are you familiar with "Photo SFXart Tricks" (google it)? There you can watch a good free video explaining the right way to create incredible pictures. It helped Daniel to make photographs which have that jaw-dropping-effect when you look at them. I hope it will help you as well...
