SONY NEX-VG10 Test vs 5D2 and GH1

月刊「ビデオSALON」2010　9月号　「NEX-VG10革命　デジタル一眼ムービーとしての実力はどうなのか？」のための作例です。
もうすぐ発売になるソニーのレンズ交換式ハイビジョンカメラ　VG10をお借りして、テスト撮影してみました。
モデルは女優の藤沢玲花さん（jlive.tv/reika.html）。
冒頭のカットのように、彼女の肌の感じがとてもよく表現されました。
キヤノン5DmarkⅡと、パナソニックGH1との比較も行っています。
正直、表現力としては５DmarkⅡのすごさを改めて実感させられた感もありますが、VG10も色彩の鮮やかさなどで独自の魅力を十分に発揮したと思います。
GH1は私自身思い入れの深いカメラですが、今回は夕暮れの時間帯にキットのズームレンズを使ってしまったりと、ちょっと不利な条件にしてしまいました。本来は、もっとデキるヤツですｗ

※訂正　　GH１のレンズは、パナソニックのパンケーキレンズです。　　また、かき氷のアップのシーンは、単焦点ではなくキットのズームレンズを使用していました。訂正いたします。
I immediately tested Sony NEX-VG10.
I think that the expression of the color is wonderful and good of this camera.
Moreover, I tried the comparison among this camera, 5DmarkⅡ, and GH1.

Amazing to me that GH1 can hold up so well while Canon always had very soft video and soft photos, the GH1 actually shoot sharper images than Canon 5DM2, to me it is sort of funny LOL!

Wow, just when I was all set to get a GH-1 now I'm thinking NEX-VG10 might be it. Thanks for the comparison. Also, Reika is an angel. What a great model.

@morfes 　Thanks. Yeah, I felt VG10 doesn't work well in dark scenes. GH1 works better when filming slow motion. I only did the testing one day, so it may have a different results if I take some more.

(Brasil) Gostei, é visto que a 5D é melhor em sua definição. O que falta é manter uma configuração igual a todos, porque é visto que a 5D está mal ajustada.

@E1VM 　　　I do not think the setting of the complete difference. Really, is it possible to do the comparison test by quite the same setting? There might be a lot of things that can be referred seeing this test. And, I think that there is a meaning of the test enough.

Hello, Nice shots! Wich of the cameras did you felt more confortable to operate? And if you have to chose just one to make a work, what would be your choice?

コメントありがとうございます。５Ｄ２の色のことは、たくさんの指摘をいただいてまして、反省しきりです。当日はとにかく暑いし、手も足りなかったのでいろいろなことがいたらなかったのですが、それでもおっしゃるとおり随所で５Ｄ2のポテンシャルを見せつけられるような結果も出ていたので、カットしてしまうのは惜しく感じ、比較は残しました。売れる売れないについてはぼくもわからないんですけど、こうしてそれぞれ特性のある一眼ムービー機が選択できる時代になったというのは、素直に嬉しいことですよねえ　　@sgs35s353

@bluesniff さんお返事いただけるとは思いませんでした。色はピクチャーモードをニュートラルか忠実にするとどうでしょう。あと色温度設定もありますが。いずれにせよオートフォーカスが付かないのは非常に難しいビデオカメラになっていますよね

@dzemski and I think GH1 have smaller censor is it??? that is the reason probably why the bokeh cant be compare with 5dmark 2 since 5D have full frame censor.....but I must say GH1 performance is quite impressive for such a small camera

Why the totally different camera settings? Why are the camera setting not close at all? One clip had the 5D2 winning hands down.

@choline500 Certainly, there was incompleteness in this test. However, I think that I was able to know the ability of VG10.

@dzemski I agree with you 100%. 2:12 - Sony is the champion by K.T.F.O !! The bokeh looks the same but look at how stable the shot is in the Sony. Like nite and day. 5D colors are kinda harsh with incorrect white balance. Plus she leans her head in further so there is more distance from forehead to chin with the DOF earlier in the video. You are right sir! Thanks for calling this one out.

I'm not sure what the one "poster" said on here to have his or her message deleted. But I've worked with almost every camera on the market(Including the RED ONE, Canon 5D2, 7D etc). And have done cinematography for over 20 years and know that the VG10 is one of the best cameras I've worked with and also own. It brings out the colours with ease. Although it doesn't have a shoot rate at 24p. Its easy to bring it out in post. This camera is amazing.

@dzemski In comparison to your comment, this video looks REALLY smart... The shots are really accurate. The 5D2 has more of a film look, which attracts cinematographers. Hell, go look at any comparison video with the VG10 and 9 times out of 10 the VG10 has a much more brilliant color pallet to it. It's apples to oranges man...

@gokihit すみません。。。　比較はあくまで参考程度に考えてください（今度からはちゃんとやります！）。VG１０の色の特徴はけっこう出ているかと思うので、そっちをメインで！

@patpipp It is a difficult selection. Because GH1 is a very excellent camera. In this test, it is not thought that the excellence of GH1 was expressible enough.

VG10は広角ズームレンズが充実してくれれば思います。確かに5D2は色が違いすぎて比較にならないです。フィルムを意識しすぎて色を作っているのでしょうが、普通のビデオカメラのように映ってほしいと思う人も多いでしょう。Canonは普通のビデオカメラも作っているのですし、色の設定を簡単に選択できるといいと思います。それにしても暗所撮影は5D2が圧倒的ですね。肌色はVG10が一番です

うわーNEXってEOSと全然違うんてすね。自然な感じというより作られた鮮やかさって感じでしょうか。そういうのがSONYらしい気もします。デジカメもそういう傾向があって俺はあまり好きではないのですが。ていうかテスト映像とは思えない美しい映像！

@hpaulmoon Well, I think she cried because she didn't want to end the shooting and leave me... TBH, I made one mistake. The lense that I used in the shaving ice scene, was the kit lense but it wasn't a great lense to me. Because the kit lense didn't depict the attraction of DSLR. That is why I used a single lense althought it didn't allow automatic controls.

すみません、これについてはぼくもよく理解できていないのです。ただ、ギザギザはありませんでした。そういう点では、従来見慣れているインタレースの映像とも違うんですよね。GH1の６０ｐだとスローがとてもなめらかなんですが、VG10のそれは、３０ｐと同程度でした　@kiiy517

Big problems with this comparison: 1- The lenses were not matched by sensor size, thus the bokeh looks completely different, when it should have looked similar. i.e. If you're going to use a 50mm f1.4 for the NEX-VG10, then you should be using something very similar for the GH1 as the sensors are almost the same size. For the 5DMKII use an 85mm f1.8 as an approximate match. 2- Color matching the cameras. The color balance is all over the place.

Great shot, but one thing is bugging me. I'm sorry, but the last camera comparision at 2:24 just isn't fair for the GH1 at all. I'm a 5D user, and even I can tell that the lighting/color banance on the last shot comparison is dramatically different from one another. The first all-at-once comparison was fine, but the second one seems blatanly created to purposefully give the edge to Sony/Canon. I'm sorry, but whether you're working for Sony or not, that's just crude and unfair marketing.

@hpaulmoon She cried because the white balance on the GH1 was a little off. Some people can be sensitive about those kind of things.

Canon 5D MKII is made for professional photography with video recording feature. Sony NEX-VG10 is build for professional video recording unlike the 5D MKII. Panasonic DMC-GH1 has quality in between the 5D MKII and NEX-VG10. Based on Footage at 1:35

Hello, have you come across "Photo SFXart Tricks" (do a Google search for it)? There you will find a smart free video explaining the right way to shoot impressive photos. This made it possible for Daniel to shoot photographs that have a wow-effect after you take a look at them. It may help you out too...

Dude, WTF is this? Standard preset / AWB? The 5D's dynamic range is much larger, we all know that, so the only way to make the video look washed out is not to set it properly to that environment. This proves nothing and seems very biased....I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this way...

humans are on the earth in this life to experiance,,like eating,,feeling,,making things,doing all the things that humans do in life,,but when you die,,no mare eating,,enjoying touch,,feeling,,even if your a ghost like entity,,you lose the ability to do the simple things,,those things are so simple but beautiful and i suppose doing life is made up of those things,death ends all the simple things in life.maybe thats why entities come back but they cant enjoy what they use to,,,,,,,,,,,
