Here is a look at one of the two cameras I used at CES 2012. The VG20 is Sony's second generation interchangeable lens video camera based around the NEX lens system. Here are some initial impressions of what promises to be one of the most unique photographic tools of 2012. Enjoy!

Just received my Sony NEX-20E (With 18-200 lens) and NEX-30 from Ebay for 400.00 each. Using these camcorders as KZfaq Studio A & B camera shots ... amazing machines !!!!

@patryric Good catch! Definitely an issue on KZfaq's side. I've only been able to replicate the audio outage once out of a dozen attempts and that was over Google tv. From my laptop, RAZR and tablet I have not experienced the issue. Thanks for watching!

Also, could you recommend this camera for use in indie filmmaking? I plan on getting some other equipment so lack of XLR ports won't be a problem for me.

@CharlietoKind Seems to be something wrong on KZfaq's end. If you try playing it again it should work. The file is sound. Thanks for watching!

I would go with the new Sony NEX-EA50UH coming out in November 2012. It starts at $3600.00 and looks like a pretty nice Camera. This camera also has the APS-C. If you have a good cash flow however I would go with the Canon C100 or C300.

That would suck, I know they changed the port, it use to be a jack now they use that 10-pin AV/R connector, but you can still use an adapter.

There is also the Sony NEX-VG900 with full 35mm sensor. Around $3200.00

No flash or video light? Can it synch to an external flash? Looks like a lot of oversights. I'll stick with my Canon's....

If it's anything like the LANC on the NX70P (which I bought) it'd still be no good. Had to sell my LANC controller because Sony changed the protocols and my Manfrotto LANC, which used to work on sony products, no longer wanted to work with the new stuff.

yeah it did but The NX70P has both the 10pin port and the 2.5 jack but no one can tell me why it wouldn't work. Sony didn't care.

Is it just me or does the VG20 seem like it should definitely be top-heavy with that lens on?

@patryric Thanks for letting me know. Very strange. Its definitely a problem with KZfaq. Lets hope this doesn't continue.

It's 2020 now, and this line of cameras is no longer. I think the reason they failed was because they were neither fish nor fowl. They were too expensive for consumers, especially because there were NEX still cameras that could produce exactly the same image for far less money. Yet they weren't pro cameras either. No XLR inputs, and only AVCHD as the codec.

@patryric You are right. Over $3,000.00 for a beginner camera! You forgot to mention the flash & card are needed. Darns thing can't do tethered just like the A77 and NEX-7 Sony screwed up big times. I just returned the A77 and this overpriced VG20.

Hello, do you know "Photo SFXart Tricks" (just do a Google search for it...)? On their website you will find a good free video demonstrating the best way to take better photos. This made it possible for Joe to create photos that have that jaw-dropping-effect whenever you look at them. Hopefully it helps you as well.
