You can use bluetooth controllers on iPhone, hell you can even use USB controllers via the USB-C port on newer iPhones. On top of that there are controllers like the Backbone, which turn your phone into a switch style device.

Didn't Nintendo already basically do autoplay minus the fancy AI part like over a decade ago? I forget the name they had for it but basically if you die a bunch on a specific section of a game, it gives you an option to autoplay to the next checkpoint or something like that. I always found it kinda patronizing although I see how it could help in some cases. For grindy stuff...eh, I'd rather not have the grind at all or embrace it as something mindless to play while I listen to an album or a podcast or whatever. That's actually become a huge part of my gaming habits these days, I literally decided to check out Harvest Moon for the first time about a year ago because the grindy repetitive nature of it makes it easy to relax and enjoy other more interesting stuff while I play the game on mute (I love music but I rarely just sit and listen to stuff by itself). Same thing with a lot of simple puzzle games. It's the monetized grinds I don't like and that would be my fear with this newer autoplay stuff, if they use it as an excuse to make games worse just so you can pay for an AI to skip the grind that they very deliberately put in the game.

I see the "auto-play" thing primarily in terms of accessibility tech. I have a degree of dyspraxia. It isn't severe most of the time, but I have friends who sometimes just cannot get their hands to do what they want them to do. They may still want to play video games and this could be helpful in getting them through the tedious parts or the parts which require frustratingly difficult (for them) sequences of movement. As long as it is an option - like all other accessibility tools tend to be - I can't see a problem with this.

What the iOS policy means is that you can't run a program that can run a second program by itself outside of the control of the OS, I would guess for security reasons

I'm kinda with Ian on the Transformers stuff, they have to keep things alive for both younger generations and us. Like I don't love the new TMNT or Star Trek Prodigy but hey it gets my little nephew into some cool stuff I've loved all my life, and it does get kids to explore the original stuff when the time comes I watch it happen every day. If stuff I love stays alive and I don't necessarily watch it all, oh well, I'll scoot over and make a little room for somebody else, pretty good deal still.

Auto-play was essentially how I got through Chrono Cross on Switch. Anytime I got into a battle, I just hit the auto-fight button and put my Switch down and messed with my phone until I heard the victory jingle. God, that game sucked.

As a transformers fan since like 1986 or something, I really don't get why people get worked up about these things. If you want everything to be like the G1 cartoon, watch the G1 cartoon. The franchise has been changing, evolving and trying on new things more or less since day 1. It's absolutely hilarious when people who liked Beast Wars when it came out are now whining about how things are changing. Like dude, I remember the "trukk not munky" years. If you got into Transformers with Beast Wars, you were once the "new fans"; the ones who liked the "wrong transformers". It's silly. I like most of it, personally. Still can't get into Beast Wars because I'm not that interested in animals and the animation looked bad even when it came out, but I'm not like getting angry about it. I just feel relief when the toys have a BW resurgence because it means I can relax and not buy anything for my collection for a while =) Does the new movie look like my favorite TF version? Nah. Will I go see it? Absolutely. It's transformers, after all. Sometimes I just wish more people figured out it's more rewarding to like stuff than to get like really passionately angry about them. Especially when it comes to something like transformers. PS. the Bay designs were fine. The movies were also fine, mostly.

Umm, isn't auto-play something that's been done years ago? I recall on the pc anyway, once a game was installed off the cd, if you want to play it again after swapping it out, just put the cd in again. But if they mean basically having a bot play the game for you, they could easily just add in a cheat engine to toggle various things like infinite life/money and what not. Faster than doing the AI playing stuff and cheaper too.

The only way I watch shows is binge watching. If I gotta wait, I fall off, everytime. No matter how invested I get. I remember loving Breaking Bad and watching it when they only had all but the last season on Netflix. Then the season showed up and I never ever watched it lol

I’d tip a developer that made a game I love if I thought every penny was going to the developers. It’d be better than buying pointless DLC. I love Dragon’s Dogma 2 and all its DLC is pointless. If it had any useful function at all I’d buy it but somehow I feel insulted to be charged for nothing. But if tip money, all of it, went to actual teams, including their support like secretaries, I’d do it. But I don’t think that’s where the money would go. Straight to the teams as a paycheck, a tip. Not more revenue or CEO’s taking a cut.

I have to agree with Pat on Transformers. From my point of view, Transformers was a kids property in the 80's/90's that transitioned into an adult's property in recent decades. I don't know how many kids give a damn about transformers these days. I don't have kids but I have nephews and they are more into tiktok, lego, fortnite, gta and marvel. So, I also think they should pander to adults with disposable income. Transformers fans deserve a good Transformers movie, like the first minutes of Bumblebee?, but an entire movie of only that.

Y'know... the older I get, the less tolerance I have for anything that wastes my time. I would rather not have any grind at all.
