Thank you Stuart, I'm more of macro photographer especially of insects. I bought the Rx10IV two years ago for a trip to Costa Rica with the intent of also having the ability to get some nice shots of birds. My days of swapping lenses while traveling are over. I was a bit disappointed with the macro but to be honest I also don't think I gave things enough time and to really learn the settings. It's still a bit heavy for backpacking but certainly a most excellent all around travel camera. I am taking a 6 week road trip from California to Alaska soon and I am looking forward to bringing this camera out again and still getting those close ups thanks to your help. And as a science teacher and naturalist and filmmaker. I like your style of noticing and wondering about things that you see while out in the natural world. Thanks again.

Excellent video - the settings options are worth exploring beyond the points in this video -if you are shooting af spot with low shutter speed and you immediately want to switch to a very high shutter speed with continuous auto focus for say a bird in flight you can use your selected custom button to immediately switch to shutter priority mode 2000 /3000 with the flexible focus and shoot a flying bird immediately

the focus hold as spit/back button focus is interesting for me as i photograph butterflies. the issue i found is the spot is not visible u til you press-hold yhe focus-hold lens button. it only becones visible when focussing. so you can't easily place the spot on the insect prior to focussing. i use your earlier idea of toggling between wide and spot with the nav's centre button as this stays in spit mode and shows the spot rectangle all the time. also, you set iso 100 and aperture in manual mode and float shutter speed? if find f5.6 to f8 is needed to keep butterfly wings fully in focus and 320th/sec is minimum for sharp 600mm images so i set those im M mode and let the iso float. is this floating iso a mistake given the 1" sensor?

Hello, i know you normally shoot on manual, but were you shooting in Macro mode, OR Manual mode in this video? I've had this camera for a couple of months. There's so much to learn, but trying to take it day by day. I've found Macro is not true Macro on the M4. I watch a lot of your videos, which help so much. Thank you!

I'm very new to this camera., but know I will love it when I understand it! When you said you were shooting a bee at 1600 what aperture were you using as I understand it only goes to 1000 under f8.

Hi Stuart, I'm looking for advise on what to do. My RX10 IV is beyond repair due to a fall in the river. I still have a A7R II with a 24 mm lens. I'm now trying to figure out if I should buy another RX10 IV or to buy a 28-200 lens for the A7. I don't like swapping lenses to be honest and that's the reason I bought the RX10. But the fact is that the images out of the A7 are a lot better. Do you know if I crop from the 200 on the A7 how that would compare to zoomed in photo on the RX10? Greetz from Holland

Great details about the camera. Where do find the info like 1/1000 shutter speed with flash at f4.

One thing I wish the RX10 iv had is a short range focus limiter in which it didn't try to focus beyond, say 3 metres. There are times when I'm trying to take something on a fairly sparse tree where Its a bit difficult to get the AF either in small spot or wide to pick up on the leaf I'm hoping for and the AF picks up on the background leaving the subject so out of focus I have no idea where it is in the frame. For the moment I'm simply going to manual focus which is a reasonable solution unless the subject is flitting about a lot. Overall, I'm still very happy with the camera. I doubt there will be a Mk 5 till someone comes up with a serious competitor to push this version off the perch at the top of the superzoom lists. Interestingly, the fact that you can't get close with the zoom in the mid range is also true for my old Nikon P510 and, I believe, many other superzoom lenses. I guess its a restriction arising out of the problems of constructing a lens with such a big focal length range and something we have to live with in order to enjoy the other benefits.

Can you tell me the add-on eyecup that you are using?

It's really a shame that there isn't an RX10V with the latest AF/video/card slot/Z battery. Or even a model with IBIS working with lens stabilization for insanely steady 600mm. I almost went with one of these before grabbing an A7RIII, and sometimes wonder if my life would be easier with just one lens!
