You can buy this belts online or find something similar for it.
WM FX251 it was a current model (Silver). Also, all black one working too with belt replacement. I was thinking something wrong with the audio quality play, but wen I play radio on both of them it was quality. So it is just old transistors build

Thanks for showing how to remove the ribbon cable. I have the WM FX251, but I couldn't get the circuit board out the way. This makes it a lot easier.

Good video 👍.. but you need the real replacement belt for this model because the tape speed is not stable that's why sound is flattering

yes i agree, i have wm fx123 and i saw it belt was replaced before but too thick and too hard, it makes the speed not stable... at the first time i think the motor had problem or the battery cannot push the motor, and also the built design mechanical problem, the pressure of the back cover to the circuit board is also take effect to the sound... in my case, to solve the flattering sound on my fx123 is by using i lil piece of rubber mat and i slipped it behind the head in order to make sure the alignment is correct.... and the result is almost perfect but not 100% perfect

Belts you are using are wrong in size, you need the correct size belt and diameter, belt is about precission and each device uses a diferent belts.

+Aldo Reyes you right. I find good belts on eBay for like 5$ but I was trying to use any belts that I can find around. And seller was from Europe who is pro in sony walkmans

BE CAREFUL. Take the top off first that says Walkman and then the second part that has the buttons this one is the worst because you can easily crack the plastic since it’s old. Mine did so easily no resistance it just snapped as I was lifting it off. Before taking of the main part off with the screen remove the little screw at the top left next to the screen.

With that so called "belt" you've installed, you're going to destroy the motor bearing in a few hours.

Is your Walkman an auto reverse one? There is a switch on the circuit board called S301 that you may need to fix. If it's this one you need to fix the mechanism, see if the springs are all in and if the rewind button is bent. Does it still rewind if you hold the button down?

@@conn3r See if you can find the service manual for the FX251 online, it will have a section dedicated to adjusting motor speed which will explain where the potentiometer is. I wouldn't fiddle with anything that 'looks' like a potentiometer on a radio model as you could end up messing with the wrong thing. It is generally a small circular screw-like component with a sort of phillips head-like head to it, screw it slightly left or right, put in the tape and play it. If it doesn't sound right then keep adjusting slightly until it does. There's no one location for it on every Walkman, some have a very hard-to-reach one and others have it exposed so you can mess with it without even taking apart the Walkman. I would find the service manual before even considering to open up the device first. Thanks.
