I already fixed my DD33's center gear, but you convinced me to also replace the pinchroller and caps. I got the DD33 secondhand as someone gave it to my old aunt as they got rid of all their old cassettes and cd's (yes, it also included a discman) and told her to make someone happy with it. As it goes they had gone either minidisc or probably iPod at the time, and since the centerdisc was broken (made the noise when I got it), they probably discarded it. This was the late 90s and early 2000s. My soldering and general electronics skills weren't developed enough yet, so I kept the pieces and fixed the DD33 about 20 years later.

Great work. I remember these DDs very well. It was considered the top of the range in the early days of WM. I could never afford it, but managed to own a WM-03. I still own it btw, will never sell it as it was a gift from my mum when I turned 15.

Nice work. Interesting there is alot less capacitors with the DD2 compared to the DDII which I have a new old stock which I restored :)

Thank you for the help, finding info about repairs like what you do is very hard to find. What is the material you use on the window/glass piece of the case? I’ve heard people either use a scratch remover compound or brasso to restore it like how you did.

Thjs is a very cool video, never knew the capacitors go bad on these models. At what point is it better to replace pinch roller vs resurfascing them with zippo fuel (petroleum distillates and naphta)?

The ORIGINAL capacitors inside Walkmans which usually easily broken down are Nippon Chemical and Nichicon, certain Panasonic capacitors ORIGINALLY inside Walkmans are usually found broken too. However, if you buy NEW capacitors of the same branding to replace the broken original ones, those new caps work perfectly fine and can last a long long period. Pinch roller rubber will deteriorate after around 20 years by 10%-70%. So normally I'll directly replace with a new one to provide a better sound quality output.

@@livinganalog7089 thank you, i didn't know I need to use the same brand capacitors. I have only been using Nichicon's and Panasonic capacitors since only those ones I've found fit in the tight space (although they cost me too much to import to Vietnam).

@@livinganalog7089 I have a sony walkman dd and the recording pro walkman. I also have a dat walkman and a sony walkman dual head model in green. They have been fully restored. I have a wm 100 that needs a new headphone jack and it will be ready to go.
