The clamping force is very high for my average size head and the area under the bottom of my ears hurt like hell. i tried adjust them but it didn't help at all. i was so frustrated. and i could also feel they were heavy on my head. Massive difference to the featherweight XM5. i am returning them today to pick up Sony. When i tested the Sony they were super comfortable and so lightweight.

Play that audio from Android or apple apps certified for 360 audio. should be lossless?

Hi there, You're definitely right that the Sony WH-1000XM4/5 are pretty bass-heavy. They're well-suited for casual use, but they won't be the best choice if you're video editing. Although we haven't tested any of the Sennheisers you've listed (we've tested the HD 599, but not the special edition variant), open-backs like the HD 599 or the HD 400 PRO would be solid choices for video editing. Generally, Sennheiser's audiophile-grade headphones tend to be more neutral, and the open-back design helps create a more immersive audio experience. Keep in mind that open-backs tend to lack low-bass due to their design though. I hope this helps. 🙂

Not worth the upgrade, moreover looks like a degrade, with a noise isolation of 8.2 vs 9.8... Same music quality, not foldable 👀. The only point for the xm5 is the bluetooth 5.2 vs 4.0 for the xm3. Bluetooth 5.2 (LE) improve a little bit the bitrate...

My xm3's broke almost One year ago. I went with Soundcore Life Q30 for 55 Euro. So much better soundstage and microphone for calls 🤘

I own the XM4 and I've been happy with them ever since I bought them. But to be perfectly honest: I would wait for the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless. These headphones will be released this month and I expect them to be better than both XM4 and XM5.

In the review, they told XM4 has better ANC for engine noises like airplane and bus. While the XM5 has better ANC in office environments and AC noise, so I guess your test of vacuum falls under this category.

With Sony's equalizer, I disagree. XM4 are $200 used at most and sound the same and are more portable

These headphones come with a 1/8" TRS cable, allowing you to receive audio. So you can use them wired. However, this means you can't use the microphone.

Guys this is important. I’ve had both. New Xm5 is better if for nothing else bc the xm4 headphones break!!!!! Both of mine did within months of buying so for rest of time I had them taped. Xm5 they are secured. Xm4 was good bc they weee flexible / comfortable but so flexible that they easily broke. Still worked but had he taped. Get the new ones. I still can sleep in xm5 (yes I sleep in then bc hate noise ) but won’t have to tape them up

My custom curves for the xm2’s is -2 on everything except 16k. Then I bass boast to taste. Usually high. The xm3’s and xm4’s are way to muddy in the low mids to correct with the eq options

@@sickmessiah If you need to use EQ on a piece of gear, it is crap. Serious hi-fi gear has NO EQ - the only place EQ should be used is in the mastering stage of a recording.

@@LaughingStock_ Meanwhile million dollar recording and mastering studios but trinovs and other high end room correction gear that eq's adjusting for delay and phase ext .. Those guys often still adjust the eq for taste but nothing too extreme . No such thing as a perfect speaker or room . To me personally i like a low end bump and everything flat as possible above 80hz at 80db's .

I just bought both the XM4 and XM5 to test for myself because of the contradictory reviews and some outright raving about the XM5s. I just used a youtube channel that provides car, train, bus, airplane (plus baby crying), office, monkey and people talking loudly sounds to test ANC for both the XM4 and XM5. XM5 did better than the XM4 while having music playing. I believe for ANC to work it needs to have some sound coming through the headphones to produce the inverted noise cancelling effect. Based on that the XM5 outperformed in every noise situation. However neither could really deal with the hight pitch of a baby crying on a plane or monkeys screaching. For humans talking, the XM5 was noticably better. But when I say the XM5 outperformed the XM4, I would say it was maybe like 15-20% better sound reduction, the XM4s were already very good. For example, for listening to people talking, with ANC on with the XM4 I could still hear what the people were saying but it was noticably quieter. For the XM5 I could still hear the sound of a conversation happening, but I couldn't make out the words. I hope that helps provide context. If cost is your concern, don't feel like you are getting a terrible pair of headphones with the XM4. I have owned the XM4 for just over 2 weeks and got the XM5 today to test. So I thought the ANC was great on the XM4, I still do, and I did really have to concentrate to notice the difference while having them side by side to try out. You may also want to actually go into a store to see how each of them fit on your head, because TBH even just having the XM5s for only a few hours to test out after they arrive, I don't like how they feel as much as the XM4s, but that could be due to my ear and headshape. I feel a pressure point on my head with the XM5s because the head band is much narrower with less padding. So for me the added discomfort eats into the benefit of the better noise cancelling if I'm distracted by the pressure instead of noise, or just the overall enjoyment of the headphones. I will keep the XM5 for another day or two and see how it goes if I like them more, or return them but I will say, there wasn't the thrill of opening them up and using them for the first time like the XM4s.

I did go to a store today and they only had XM5, tested those and they performed phenomenally. And yes, with music on, the ANC works significantly better. However, I'm getting an even better deal on XM4 now so I'm again leaning towards those and as I can figure from what others and you've said, XM4 ANC is also really good and the travel friendly design makes more sense to me because I want to carry these with me, and XM5 extra large case I feel will start bringing problems in the long run taking lit more space in the bagpack. So finally thinking to just order the XM4 and hope for the best. ✌️

In regards to the case of the XM5s that everyone talks about in reviews, I think the camera makes the XM5 case look huge, because when I got it, I didn't see what all the fuss is about. It's bigger, but it's not unwildly. I don't think it should be the make-or-break reason to choose whether or not to go for the XM4s. I do prefer the XM4 case better, its solid so it protects the XM4 headphones better. The XM5 case does see cheap, that's the drawback for me. But then, I have yet to see how ofter I will be carrying the case with me on a daily bases, because I don't think I will. The footprint of the XM5 case is like that of a book.

Except for meetings... the microphone on XM4s is superior to XM3s.

As I know, XM4 doesn't have AptX too. Only XM3 got it.

XM4 doesn't have aptx support. And aptx still has high delay.. it's aptx-ll (low latency) which targets 60ms. But you need a transmitter which supports aptx-ll as well, which are far and few between.

XM4 does not support aptX. However, the XM3 do.

@@Jonathan-sk9de Haha. Except that toe sizes come in a spectrum or distribution and there is no such thing as one correct toe size. Lineups? Lineups very often have one and only one correct name. In this case, that is WH-1000X. It is a shame that rtings gets all the amazing measurements and graphs, but the lineup name wrong.
