They match pretty close, if you saw it before KZfaq compression you still notice better skin tones on the a7iv and that’s mainly cuz I’m recording in 10bit where Xperia is only 8bit

Im on a 5 ii. Was shooting a clip on a rockin boat. The phone adapted and stayed still with land... The boat moved instead. Never seen that before!

I just got my Xperia 1 Mark V and I totally love it! Coming from a Samsung phone this is like a whole different world, a much higher quality world. I love the way this phone just sits in my hand. It does feel like Sony made it for me! I'm an audio engineer and the quality of the sound and its recordings easily makes it worth it for me. This is an enthusiast phone not for noobs. Get this phone if you are the kind of person that likes to learn and tweak things yourself instead of relying on AI. It is meant for individuals that like to be creative with their tech.

I agree. I like that it’s kind of slim in the hand. Plus it has the smallest camera bump from any camera manufacturer. And I love the texture on the back. I wouldn’t even put it in a case tbh

Even without its amazing camera. The phone is great for viewers of movies. The front firing stereo speakers are class leading and the 4K display is quite stunning. Even 1080 looks nice on Netflix.

2:31 with the 5V sony released an upgraded portrait mode that actually do lens simulation with proper Bokeh balls as well, that's on top of binning a 48mm lossless zoom with the main camera, adding a 50mm in between the 24 to 85mm would be nice indeed. They say the features are coming to 1V as well

My Xperia 1ii was surprisingly robust too, they don't get credit for the build quality. I hate cases I think they take away from the whole intention of the device and Sony has one of the better tactile experiences you won't know it until you hold it. Great device for no case and now it probably doesn't slide off your leg or sofa which mine did and survived many drops

Yeah! Having that control over taking images is awesome. I’ve always wished that iPhone would have a pro camera app for the pro phones but I know not everyone cares and would rather just have an easier shooting experience and let the phone do it for you

I bought it for the audio not the photo ability. IF you have a large library of music add the 1tb and use the phone to upscale to dsee. You can also listen to lossless music this phone is great for folks that love audio

I got this phone thanks to starting into photography with a Canon M50 MKII. I wanted to experience nailing a shot with manual controls and be gone with the (great) post processing my iPhone and Pixels do after each shot. The Canon (though entry level) really helped me get more creative and appreciate just how much there is to photography. The Xperia 1 V was announced and I wanted to dive straight in! Now there is a learning curve, and I am still learning everytime I use it, but I'm having a lot of fun doing so. On top of that everything else about the phone is great! Build, screen, sound and the battery easily lasts me 2days with moderate use and even stretches to 4 days with light use! Seriously, my battery was at 60% and I looked up "based on usage" in the Android settings and it told me 2+ days!!!!

This looks like a cool option! Been wanting to get a portable camera for when I don’t want to bring my a7iv or a7siii and have been debating the zv E1, a7cII and now this haha mainly cause it looks decent for on the go Vlog part of my videos and small size for anything I’d need for travel. But don’t know if the price is justifiable to me 😂 so many decisions

1:50 it does 10-bit video. HLG mode is in HEVC265 10-bit. 6:50 ISO change because all that leses has different F and to achive the same exposure to all lenses there must be different ISO. Someone who make VideoPro app think about evertyhing. Only NTSC/PAL selector is missing.

The phone is indeed made for folks who are advanced in photography and/or vlogging/videography. I didn't buy the phone but the Sony ZV1f for the simple reason that is much cheaper and does the trick for me. One thing I don't like about the Sony Xperia V is the fact that it only has 2 yrs of security patching. That was also a reason not to buy it. If I look at the features and capabilities of the phone it is amazing, especially for a Sony camera User like me (a7iii and ZV1f). You'd almost wonder if this phone doesn't kill the Sony ZV line?

Slight correction, this phone has two additional OS updates not two years. Which means you will get a total of 3 OSes. The one it comes with and two more after that. Which puts you at 3 years and with 3 years of OS updates it will put you right around the 4-year mark. And I personally would never keep a phone past 4 years.

iPhone still has the best “pull out of your pocket and shoot” video. The thing that is annoying is that you have to shoot hdr video which I personally don’t love because you can’t match it with anything and only looks good being played back on your iPhone. I’m an apple fan boy. Would love it be able to turn that off so you can shoot stuff like the Xperia

Everyone is reviewing the camera, which is a great selling point for the phone, but one of the biggest hair-pulling downsides to this phone to me is the use of google photos as the main (and only) gallery. It is not intuitive, and you have to do a lot of manual workarounds to get anything you shot in the pro-video to be editable directly on the phone.

Everything about it for photography and video I love. Except for the video playback is 1 frame per second when you use the slider bar. Such a let down I cannot review the action video on the phone at their 120fps.

Great video thanks! Can I confirm that if you switch lenses during video recording the ISO jumps accordingly? I was just about to buy a 1V but if this is the case I don't really see me getting one

As far as I can remember you can’t switch lenses while recording. If everything is set to auto it will adjust accordingly though. But in full manual you’ll notice the differences in ISO and you have to adjust shutter speed

I've always wondered why reviewers don't present the cinema pro app. Some people don't use it, but because it is often not shown, people won't know what the big fuss is about the Xperia camera. However, it can be a good thing because now Xperia owners can surprise people who didn't know they have a camera setup at their fingertips. I get many compliments about my cinematic photos without people realizing it's from a phone. I have an Xperia 1 III but this August will be my third year with it and I might upgrade to the V by then

Is the "Basic Mode" like the "point & shoot" setting on my Samsungs 03:56 I really want more customizing available, but what I really want is the headphone jack and sd card expansion. (Been with Samsung flagships since S3.) I'm taking my S10 to Switzerland in May but plan to buy this Sony Xperia I V in June. Thank you for confirming my choice - I need an occasional "point & shoot" with the Grandchidren - and you did tell me that is what the Basic Mode is - Correct? 😊

Is it difficult to get the best out of the camera if you aren't a photogrpaher or have experiences with cameras? Question about International vs USA version. All my phones have been unlocked but I have had both USA & International Samsungs. 9 months of the year we are in USA with 3 months in Thailand, Tropical SE Asia, Japan, and Europe. I have found all work, but USA version works the best in USA. What would you recommend for Sony Phones. - Especially since International is a couple of hundred dollars cheaper😮!!! Thank you again!

Maybe you could tell us something about the noise made by the stabilisation which destroys any “normal” video (where you want to hear voices, or videos made in silent environments). Or about the performance throttle after using it a while. Or perhaps about the “quality” or the telephoto lenses. Which are really mediocre. Otherwise an excellent camera.

I've had my Xperia I V since the end of June (UK user) it has been pretty good so far. I upgraded from the Xperia I IV due to the overheating that the phone had.

Overheating is good, its a sign that the heat is spreading out. Only that it is very uncomfortable and should be handled properly.

This phone is for people that know how to use a dslr, edit on light room/photoshop or davinci/aftereffects which people have no time for. I hope sony makes a phone that has better computational photography and make the camera ui simpler. Its been a while since I touched a dslr I can still shoot don't get me wrong but I've been kinda lazy with all these computational photography that I don't need to do much on what I'm taking.

Yes and no. 😊 There is also an Auto/Basic option that the phone takes a picture for you and you don't have to get involved in manually doing any settings so I really don't understand where is your problem, lol? 😂😅

Still , I think having to go on editing after effect is kind of a choice , I would love the option to be open on my phone even I might only edit once a while. It's fun to play on manual modes , and it is really not that hard on the phone really.

Good phone but extensively overheats when recording in 4k 60/120 fps. The battery was a mixed bag in my usage, was forced to use stamina battery mode which started off well but became satisfactory. Lastly, I think Sony needs offer better computational photography as its very bad and would make this phone more appealing to non-professional photographers.

I d just add that also above 30fps you are not allowed to switch lenses while recording.

Liking this phone... but I have a question... Like other Android based phones, will it let you PAUSE while you are recording a video, and then RESUME whenever you wish, thus keeping 1 filename/file on the phone?

The volume of my speakers was turned moderately up and there is quite a heavy resonance on your sound recording. Maybe you could use sound dampening foams or something in your studio to minimize, if not eliminate the resonance in your future videos.

Yeah my room sounds horrible. I have sound blankets and panels and it’s still bad. Just depends on the mic I’m using. I was using shotgun on my camera for this. It’s why it was bad. And this was even after I did some plugins to fix it

I dont understand why still we do not have a high quality stabilization while recording 4k60. So disappointing. Basically if you would like to record video in 4k60 Auto, outcome is really bad comparing to competition. Video is blurred, autofocus slow and confused while recording landscape. Is it something what can be fixed ? I totally love the phone itself but this is disappointing really.

I feel like they are one of the only ones left. I put a cheap 512gb card in it. Only thing I notice is a tiny bit of delay from stopping video recording while recording to the card because it’s not quite as fast as internal storage

RIP LG. I used to get super cheap cards until I realized playback was a disaster when trawling through old shit so now I get fancy ones.@@LeeZavitz

I'm an Apple user and although I've tried to switch to android, it was difficult because of the ecosystem, i.e. Apple photos, Apple Pay, Apple Watch, iCloud (especially managing the family). I only wanted an updated RX100Vii with the long zoom range, but seems this is the closest thing on the market. It's really too much money for a phone I will never use.

If you want to have the best experience taking quick photos the s23u is much better. If you want more realistic looking video (similar to Sony mirrorless) the Xperia 1V is the best, and in terms of photos you have more manual controls but Sony doesn’t offer computational raw photos like iPhone, pixel, galaxy which gives you less noise and more dynamic range in post.

Xperia photos have their own magic🪄 and I love it😍 But why does it have to have so many apps for photography and video. It's confusing and I like manual settings, but they could redo this. And even though I like manual settings, sometimes I need to capture something quickly, and the automation I've seen is not exactly reliable. And this are problems only around cameras software but unfortunately Sony has more of them when it comes to software, which annoys me because I like Sony and their phones have a lot of potential that they don't use, otherwise they could have the best phones. But a plus for the SD card, Jack and the physical camera trigger.

I bought this phone and I think it's great, however I have a feeling the camera hardware will be surpassed by samsung and apple within a few weeks and the 1 V will feel last gen.

Works with any camera if you have an hdmi to usbc adapter

I got 1 mk4 from who bought Alpha camera and free phone but I can't remember that which one was free Xperia 1 mk4, yes literally free phone and sold about 1000USD (converted exchange) I bought it and absolutely love it expect is manual mode and I haven't used manual mode in DSLR before and I do like it's notting it's just a pro photographer doing it and i'm doing it like nothing happened I'm shooting photo don't mind me

How do you transfer the files from the phone to your computer for editing? The transfer speeds are horrible and even the directory loading is inconsistent. I have 100+ gb that I need to dump and its just painfully slow! Please help!

I have a Mac and just use image transfer. I found it to transfer pretty fast. Not slow. Make sure you are using a good usb cable that’s rated faster. Not all cables are created equal and won’t have the same bandwidth

I was going to buy this phone but I switched from Android to iOS and it was difficult to justify since I’m so heavily invested in the ecosystem. I’m getting the 15 pro max this week and I hope it can compare to this with the moment camera app.

you'll be disappointed, as iPhone 15 will shoot exactly as 14 pro series, artificial oversharpening and fake HDR. Social media machine, Sony is different league, if you don't mind manual mode then you can shoot better than on iPhone.

If Sony would improve it's computational photography, it would be more of a contender. No matter how good the sensor is, it's still small and will have dynamic range issues. Hopefully the software updates soon will fix some of this. Looks like the 5V has improved in this area.

I own a Sony xperia 1 v and have to admit, it is a great smartphone Personally, i am not a professional photographer myself, i just like to take pics and shoot vids. As an average person, you will notice that ot really pops especially when taking a video. Photos are incredible, but honestly, if youre not shooting in RAW format, youre not gonna notice a huge difference from another smartphone. Peace ✌️

@@timit304 as I said, camera quality is excellent. Very recently we got the new big update with android 14 and the new bokeh effect which is stunning. In everyday use you're not going to experience any lagging and the battery life is very acceptable, 1 and a half day of light usage. Gaming wise, even though I'm not a mobile gamer myself, is great. I tried some big hits such as asphalt 9, call of duty etc and didn't experience any frame drops. You can take a video through the casual camera app, but there are also two more apps just to shoot videos. The camera zoom if great, but not the best, so if you're willing to spy on the neighbors at the next village, you probably need a Samsung galaxy. Also, the display is just so good. On KZfaq, Instagram etc, most of the videos are going to be a bit cropped, because of the 21:9 aspect ratio. In my opinion, there is no smartphone that can compare to this one while watching movies, cause most of them are 21:9 ratio as well. The speakers are very loud and clear too. It has stereo speakers, so when watching movies, or videos you shoot, it's just very immersive

Dear Xperia and Macbook users. What method are yall using to get your footage on your laptop? Image capture doesnt work on my Pro I and the sony app shows everything on my phone ans i dont see an option to filter for new footage.

1:15 watching this comparison on a 55 inches OLED monitor I can definitely tell a significant difference in quality between A7 and Xperia 1 but if you watch this on a phone or a small monitor, you probably won't be able to tell the difference

For sure. It’s still a phone. But it does a really good job. It’s the most comparable in video quality to the iPhone. Most androids don’t do video as well and this one is awesome

really interesting Phone & as a Sony shooter would I get it ? ..NO.. I just got a Motorola G82 (5G) for equivalent 250 bucks & I could buy a ZV1 with the change & I'd have both a good quality smart phone & a great compact camera capable of shooting video & stills
