Your review helped me. I need an in-car camera windscreen-mounted camera that still provides good images when the sun goes down. GoPros, DJI Pocket etc., fail all too soon. I think this may work well. New sub.

@thefilmalliance my thoughts this far is leaning towards not upgrading. They added 18mm lens, usb-c, better mic, maybe better auto focus, new menu with touch screen, moved the ¾ 20 mount position, gave us cinematic bars and modes, and added S&Q mode... but they took away the HFR mode and 1 stop of light past 35mm. It's a decent upgrade if you skipped the ZV-1-OG, but in my opinion, it's not worth the upgrade if you already have the OG. 10bit with better stabe would have convenience me... I'm very much looking forward to your comparison video...

Sticking with what works for you is best. It would be great for anyone who doesn’t already have the ZV1 or needs wide angle shots with quick interface accessibility.

@thefilmalliance yes it does seem like that extra 6mm on the wide end does make a massive difference. Especially the way you've been flying it on that gimble. It must be a pleasure not needing a cage or that heavy wide angle 😀

I've been using the zv1f and this will be much better (better focus & built in ND my main 2 issues with the zv1f). I preferred the zve10 over the zv1 with an adapter. What gimbal would you recommend?

Sounds awesome. I recommend the Weebill 3 because there is a back handle on it for low angle shots and I haven’t had any horizon issues. I have a link in my description if you end up going for it. There are some cheaper options out there but sadly I have had horizon issues with them.

Hi, yes it has a higher level of functionality. It mostly depends on what you are using it for tho. I recommend working with what you have until it is no longer serving you or it’s purpose.

I still love my zv-1 after 2 year of shooting video with it. The one thing that I would want to know is, can you still hear the motor when you zoom? That was the one thing that I thought could have been improved on. Anytime I use the zoom I will do it in B-roll so I can cut the sound but it would have been nice if it was just quieter from the beginning. Thanks, I can't wait to hear more about this camera. I think the ZV-1 is the best camera in its price range so I'm sure I will feel the same about the zv-1 M11.

Yes the ZV-1 is a great camera. Was pumped when I heard they made an updated version. Just tested it out for you. Did them side by side and happy to report it is significantly less and IMO barely noticeable in the ZV-1 MII.

I received a ZV-1 as a gift this past Christmas, and while I am still learning how to use its features to best suit my needs (content creation), I'm loving it so far. I do know that the videos can be posted to reels and stories. I post mostly reels, so I have the setting to the 16:9 aspect, and the format to HD (as much as I love the clarity of 4K, the file size is so big and IG will compress it, compromising its quality/clarity).

Hello! I just had a few questions about the camera! Amazing review btw!! I mostly just want to use the camera for pictures while traveling (nothing fancy), personal vlogs for memories, or just videos to upload on my Instagram story, would you recommend the Zv-1 mark 2, or the zv-e10? I’m debating not getting the zv-10 because I don’t think of buying any extra lenses. And would you know if there’s any external lenses I can buy to temporarily stick it on the lenses for extra zoom on the zv-1 ii?

Hi, thanks! I think for basic use and being budget friendly with no need for extra lenses the ZV-1 or ZV-1 M2 are your best bet. The M2 is better for vlogging. But both in my opinion would be perfect for your needs.

Your ZV1 vids helped me a lot especially the fake SCinetone picture profile I’m using it and I love it! Too bad they didn’t upgrade the battery. That’s the only downside of the camera

Hey can you tell me more of what you would use it for on your channel? If you are on a budget I would go for the ZV1 M2 but you have a bit more of a budget then I would recommend the ZVE10 with a nice lens like a sigma 18-50

How much of your demo footage was on a gimbal or used catalyst browse? It all looked great, but not keen on gimbals for travel, which this camera seems built for…and a good studio cam as well. Very comprehensive review…a great camera made a little bit better.

Mostly on the gimbal because I was looking for smooth cinematic shots. If i was a vlogger I would just go handheld. I showed some sample footage of that as well.

Wow, brilliant video... And congrats on getting a pre-embargo copy! Sony sent it to the right guy!! A little surprised with this iteration. I thought for sure we'd get a different sensor and a new processor (with that ai autofocus and dynamic stabilization). Yet, I'm actually happy that I dont have to run out and upgrade... Dollar saved is a dollar earned here! Either way, you helped my purchasing decision. Thank you!

You asked on June 2021 about Sony ZV-2 Wishlist and I said "Wider angle, better stabilization, bigger battery, better grip". Sony solve 50% of the problems so I think ZV-1 II is good enough. We never said that 70 mm f2.8 is not enough so, bang... here is 50 mm f4.5

How small an aperture will it go? f11 on the mk1 is too wide for certain scenarios.

F11 is as closed as it gets. I recommend an ZV-E10 with a Tamron lens.

It looks like a lot of this footage was shot back in Florida. If so, do you find the internal ND filter to be sufficient? One more thing. How about overheating in that climate? TIA.

Yes it was sufficient, I had the ND filter on most of the time and it did not overheat.

All these months i didnt realize i wasn't subscribed! But anyhow another channel was knocking the 8 bit rate compared to the Osmo Pocket 3's (apples 🍎 and oranges?) 10bit rate. What do you think of that difference? Thank you, oh im subscribed now😊.

Thank for that review ! I got the sony zve10, I use it mainly for beauty content (so kind of static and 16:9 format for reels and tiktok). but i am wondering if this camera can't offer better quality, it looks dope ! (alors on the sony zve10 when i record 4k i really feel like I have 10 mn to record something before the camera go on "overheat" wich is really anoying for some makeups that take hours to make, I always have to turn off the camera after every shot). This camera did not overheat at all in even in outdoor conditions. I was shooting in 4K 24. My ZV-1 never overheated either though. The ZV-1 MII has some better features like a wider lens, 3 stop ND filter, and a 3 directional mic to name a few.

Black bars can easily be removed in post. This could be a good replacement for my ZV-e10. Will the ZV-e10 tripod work with the ZV-1 Mark ii? Thanks.

Isn’t there a big sacrifice in terms of the low lightening capability with the Mark II vs the original camera as we are taking a hit for the inability to capture low light conditions? I think the original model is superior in thes conditions.

Great video, but I was hoping for more from Sony. This is only a minor upgrade not worth upgrading from the original ZV-1 in my opinion.

Definitely more for those who don’t already have the ZV-1. The body stabilization is better due to the wider focal length.

Raw files are extremely large. Have you thought about shooting in S-Log3 on a Sony camera?

Because it is newer, has more functionality and you don’t need to add a lens. For photo results, the ZV-E10 would be better because it has more megapixels.

Yes! Have you tried using HLG? That really brings out the best colors without squashing all the highlights.

How this can be marketed as the best vlogging camera is beyond me. It might be fine if it’s set up on a tripod, however the second you pick it up and start walking around with it, which I assume is what most vloggers do, it’s an absolute shambles! I recorded the below video with it earlier today, watch the first 2 minutes and look at the utter state of the image stabilisation. It’s absolutely headache inducing. I won't be buying or recommending the Mark 2. I've watched a ton of reviews many with practical use cases and in my opinion we lose more functionality than we gain and end up paying more. The best upgrades are the tripod mount and the usb-c. As for the screen and menus I'm not unentirely certain that Sony couldn't give the original camera those functions in a firmware upgrade. None the less those are the only upgrades I'm seeing and they aren't worth the price. We get a wider lens but we lose optical stabilization and telephoto length. Once you stabelize the image on the M2 it's only marginally better than on the M1. Then we lose focal length and the aperture is worse. Overall loss in my opinion. The mic upgrade doesn't sound any better to my ears other than if you're talking from behind the camera. Not a big deal in my opinion. Then we lose the super slowmo. Over 240 it was gimmicky but at least fun, once in a while. For action shots the 240 was quite useful IMO. If they had just moved the mount, upgraded the USB, and the touchscreen improvements and left everything else alone, I would recommend the M2 just not at the higher price. Give me a firmware update to improve the touchscreen on the ZV-1 and I'd consider buying a second myself. Overall I think bang for buck most people are better off spending less money on the M1 over the M2.

I shot with it for 2 weeks and I can confidently say it’s a lot better than the ZV-1. However, if you already have the ZV-1, then I don’t blame someone for not needing/wanting to make the upgrade.

It is not a problem. I shot extensively with it and the wider focal length prevents shaky footage.
