Soon To Be Modded: Westinghouse High-Speed Elevators at the Rivercenter Marriott in San Antonio, TX.

Filmed on July 5, 2019: With GucciPowerGrizzlyBearDopeAF. These are SADLY going to be modernized with Schindler PORT. So me and Caleb got to see these elevators for the one last time in their original state. As of now, the PORT systems are activated and the floor buttons on the COP are covered up. However, it is unknown if any one elevator car is taken out of service or not (maybe there is, but IDK). Also, we do not have any informations about the elevator parts. Me, Caleb, and Stephen (DoverElevatorFan1) all tried our best to get parts, but I don't think our requests worked well unfortunately. :( Installed in 1987, to be modernized 2019-2020 or later than that.

The cabs have been redone on these elevators, along with the PORT upgrade. So far as of right now, these are unlocked and not keyed off. PORT actually requires a separate keycard encoder to encode cards to be authenticated on these systems. However, to make it easier for guests, you can just tap a guestroom key to go straight to your floor but it is not keyed off fully. Might I also mention that this place has underwent a renovation and the whole hotel not just the elevators have been redone. So this may have been modernized to fit in with the new hotel. Anyways, do you think in the future you could get an up to date video on these elevators?

There have already been videos of the modded elevators along with the cabs redone, so probably not. I don't really even film modernized elevators unless if nobody has filmed them, they're tastefully done, or if it has an epic sounding motor. For the sake of nostalgia, it's nothing really special anymore compared to the originals.

Those were nice elevators. Now that's what I call destruction-by-mod. Shame to have them gut out the Westinghouse fixtures with the traditional dispatching system in favor of that modern destination dispatch. The new system with the keypad seems convenient, but otherwise might aggravate guests not used to the modern technology and rather confuse them. I prefer the classic technology where you just choose the floors conveniently on the COP inside the elevator.

I knew that this place, the Marriott San Antonio Riverwalk, and the Menger Hotel were going to get modernized ~ a year after I visited the area, and I knew that the Nix Hospital was going to get shut down as well.

Why the hell are they modding these?? These seem to be in perfect condition and run just fine from what I can see on video. That being said though, I can’t be the judge of this elevator since I never rode it but from what I see on video there’s really no need to mod these. They run just fine!

I used to stay here quite a lot. As they are now they are not original. The old ones used to have a lot of glitches. Also no digital indicator they were old button like indicators. Actually just like the service elevators. Odd though to see one floor button original but yup thats what they were. Just additional fyi first time I stayed her the room keys were the old punch keys. You know the one with holes punched in them.

Did you also know that the Menger Hotel elevators are getting modernized? I just heard that from TX Elevators about an hour ago. The Otis black button elevator that is literally facing towards the valet entrance parking is in the process right now. I’m kind of curious if you’re able to make it up to San Antonio to help me save some parts there? I just don’t know if you plan on going back to San Antonio anytime soon or at all.

Genesee Trains & Elevators I fear so as well. I hate to say this but I am afraid a lot of places don’t have a choice. Parts are no longer available so it’s either modernize or not have a working elevator.

historiclift27 I’m more referring to saving parts like elevator call stations and control operating panels with the buttons and stuff like that. Unless if companies are not allowed to give away parts, then that’s what I’m curious to know most importantly.

I would’ve gone to get parts, but I kind of heard they are probably not allowed to do so unfortunately. I doubt I’d be able to get any parts sadly. I did leave them note to Schindler Elevator, and then one guy from International Union of Elevator Constructor called me to make sure who I was and stuff for safety which I told him who I was and my interest, but since then I have not heard back at all unfortunately. I’m not sure if you know Stephen (DoverElevatorFan1), but him and I did the same thing as well.
