Clark McGhie's Wild Country

Since I first saw a wolf, slinking from cover to cover on a hillside above where I rode, I wanted to go "one on one" with this super predator. When it happened, the shock of the encounter made it hard to tell dream from reality.

The adverse comments will always come from people whose experience of the wild is limited to not being able to get their favourite latte at the cafe. They have no idea of how nature works thinking that Disney films depict reality. It is not until you live in the country and listen to the locals who have the experience to back their views that a realistic understanding begins to emerge. Great video by the way and that was some thick country to be trying to track a cougar.

20 years ago Clark ( in the U SA. ) a lot of Elk guides were put out of business due to the reintroduction of the Wolf. They were on the endangered list and could not be hunted . The Wolves either ran the Elk out of the area or otherwise decimated the herds. No Wolf hunting is regulated in some of the areas but in my opinion too little too late.

Minnesota Rancher. Great video. That's quite a feat, to be able to get 2 wolves down in one encounter. Congratulations. These days if you kill a mosquito or a spider someone's going to get all bent out of shape about it. Your family has a truly beautiful place up there. Hopefully the wildfires didn't treat them too badly. We had smoke from Canadian fires passing through here all summer. So I know it was pretty bad somewhere.

I don't know if you follow hockey, but if I see anyone going after you for knocking down a couple of wolves, I'll be the first man in! (hockey term for sticking up for your teammates in a fight) I live a couple of miles north of Kootenay lake in southern B.C., and the wolves have pretty much cleaned us out! This area was once one of the best areas to take a trophy elk, and now we have almost none left. Well done Mr. McGhie, well done!

i have mixed views on this, as wolves are a native species, and have proven to have a positive role to play in the natural ecosystem in keeping deer numbers in check, and then on the other hand i understand the farmers point of view of the impact on live stock etc....From what i've read, it seems hunting wolves in BC is regulated, needing a license to harvest etc, so not all bad news for the wolves numbers.... quite a different situation to here in Oz where those pesky redskins are an introduced species, that don't belong in our environment, and deservedly a declared pest, known to decimate native wildlife flora and fauna.

Well, that wolf was certainly a decent sizeClark and to make a shot like that with an unfamiliar left handed rifle is seriously impressive. I think that the majority of people who watch your videos are only too aware of the damaging effects of predator overpopulation in agricultural areas

Conservation is not just leaving the environment and animals to do their thing. It is about managing the animals and the environment to preserve the quality of the environment and the sustainable numbers of animals. When God created humans, He commanded them as recorded in Genesis 1:28. Part of that commission was to have "dominion" over all the earth and the creatures on it. That word "dominion" is not to exploit or be boss over the earth. It is to have authority to care for and manage the earth and all that is in it. We are to be good stewards of the environment. "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." Genesis 1:28 KJV

Vegans and anti's will never go extinct. How do you feel about herbicides, pesticides and fungicides being sprayed on your grain, fruit and veg crops making ecological deserts? What about mice and rat control round granaries? Do you cohabit with roaches? Allow wasps and bees to nest in schools and nurseries? Bed bugs and fleas to feed on you? Local people control what affects them just as you do except you choose to ignore it/deny it because others do it on your behalf.

Hi Clark, I’ve been watching this channel for some time now, been a trapper for about 10 years now, targeted mostly coyotes. So it’s super interesting how you set traps for dingoes, and now wolves. Most of my trapping experience has been with snares. It will be interesting to see what the nay-sayers will say…..
