2 years later, this vid is helping me see how the painting process goes for these kinds of figures. I'm used to painting gunpla, which I can take apart and do piece by piece, but painting this as a whole unit is kinda new to me. Watching this makes it a little less intimidating, very impressive work!

It's so good every time. The amount of character you convey in your weathering really shows. There's always a moment when I'm like, I'm not sure if I like this step, and then the next step immediately makes it look good amd it all ties back in. Thanks so much.

Always loved your videos. Still the best IMO. I used them for guides back in the IA days and when Legion came out but then they became more sparse and not current. This video would have been great closer to release a couple of years ago. Still great but I have to go elsewhere for guidance and inspiration these days as the new releases come out. I do miss sitting and painting to your videos as they are my favorite.
@Sorastro
@Sorastro 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! I do appreciate that. In my defense regarding the timeliness of the video, my videos for Legion have to go through a somewhat lengthy licensing approval process (I actually submitted this video 3 months ago!) which makes it hard to stay as "current" as I'd like. But given that the Clone Wars Core Set came out around 12 months ago, I don't think it's so bad that I've just finished the set. You might be pleased to know however that I have submitted a video for the new Anakin figure, so here's hoping that I can release it along with the release of the actual mini! 😁

I like to say less is more when it comes to weathering. A little bit goes a long way to conveying that the piece is well-worn, but too much can make it look messy and interfere with your chosen colour scheme.

Top quality video as always!!! Just a little ask for the future: Would you consider doing a video on Board game Piece painting vs Display/Single model/Competition theory?? It's very noticeable the difference in which you approach large army-type models like the Starwars Legion ones vs the Crisis Protocol ones where each character is unique and it's more painted to a display piece standard than a "nameless-trooper" standard... I've been painting more and more game pieces as of late and I get caught up in the details because I come from the more "display" side of the hobby, and there are times where frustration is unavoidable (e.g. I got guilted into a commission for Axies and Allies painting over 400 individual models... Finished it all in nearly 2 months... I was so burned out afterwards... The client loved the models, but I can notice the exact point where I lost interest...:)

Hi! I think you can buy brush-on primers, but I've honestly not had much experience with them. :)

I already glued the clones on to the speeder. Clearly this was a mistake

Hi Stefan! It's ok - I'd probably paint the bikes first (as you'll likely hit the riders while doing so) is all. 😀

Hey sorastro, no idea if youll see this. I'm trying to learn how to airbrush, I don't have the white primer yet so I'm trying to airbrush just using white acrylic paint. Every time I get it in the pot it's too watery when I spray. Any tips or things that could help?

Hey! I'm not sure exactly what paint you're using, but you do definitely need to prime the model with a proper primer before doing anything else. Even then, white airbrush primers can feel a little thin, so may need a couple of layers (and don't overspray the model as this will cause the paint to run). It might be easiest to prime with a rattlecan primer to begin with - like the Tamiya ultra fine primer perhaps.. 🙂

@@Sorastro Thank you! I primed with corax white primer first, and I'm trying to spray with vallejo white. Do you know the right consistency it should be?

Ok cool! Are you using the Vallejo Air white paint?

@@Sorastro no, I only have the model color paint

Well, generally you want to aim for the consistency of full-fat milk (or a little thicker). The Vallejo Air paints are pretty easy to use because they're already nicely thinned (although I still like to add a little thinner and flow improver). 🙂
