Simon thank you for talking with us. The delay for beta sucked. I'm glad you are taking measures to prevent delays in the future. Everything you talked about that you are working on and planing makes me realy exited! The binders, the dust store, the next set, the 'mini'-sets everything sounds great! I am enjoying the alpha and beta cards I have very much. Sorcery is everything I want from a TCG. You have done a great job with the flavor, art, gameplay, collectability, release scedule and comunication. Keep up the good work! :) I am looking forward to many more years of sorcery contested realm.

One more great point that I wanted to mention is how awesome it is that Simon and EC are transparent about wanting to make sure the game has collectability and that it is a critical part of their product. Because it sets expectations and it lets ppl know that some of these cards will have value and they will be limited. And so it allows ppl to make a decision early on whether or not it’s for them and it should really help curb ppl being upset that something has a little price to it. And that everything isn’t going to be pennies. As well as lets those who want that be more confident that their cards will retain some value and it lets those who don’t want that as part of the game know if they need to stay in or get out because they understand going in what to expect or at least can’t say later on that they didn’t know it would be like x y or z……

Really like his answer about the players community, the will to keep the initial vision they had when the project started. I think that it is a really important point for the game to survive. Super confident for the future of the game.

@@TempoLOOKING I think an important point is that they would be printing more -compared to Beta, not just printing unlimited amounts. I think we need to have faith, the company has a lot of people thinking and considering all the facts. Erik, the creator, himself is a big time old school magic collector/player, and he has the benefit of seeing a lot of the other 2020 indie TCGs and doing things differently. 😉

Fantastic interview! This channel is getting better with every video. One idea I wanted to mention: I know it's additional work but especially for long videos like this one I wonder if it could be good to provide a TOC list with links to different parts of the video. This way it's easier to find specific parts of current interest.

they didnt answer the print run question but everything else was really awesome. love that they seem so level headed and that it is such a small team of people! wish them the best and i hope the game grows much much more

Thank you for watching the video. I think Simon tried to give as much context to the answer as possible in the situation. They probably haven’t made up their mind one way or another, and are still monitoring the data to see what to do.

@@CardboardGuide ive heard that they shut down the printers so no more beta is being made however a fair amount has been produced that hasnt been released on the market. Rudy is getting 6000 boxes so im assuming the rest of the world should get at absolute minumum the same thing if not doubled which means another 18k boxes hitting the world. i know we need the product right now but wondering how this will affect the price and confidence come april/may. final concern is the one set a year dynamic. people dont need an entire year to complete a set or to explore 30 deck options so i think that extremely slow pace may be an actual issue and that small additional set (that they arent calling a set) may not be enough.

@ivanfuchs2820 This is not an ECG or a porn TCG ( there are 2). 1 set a year is not good enough. I am fat an ugly. I don't have a girlfriend like Umu to stop me from buying cardboard. I follow 34 TCGs right now.

@@ivanfuchs2820 I think that Rudy getting more boxes should be seen as something separate from the rest of the distribution. I think it is entirely possible that his extra boxes are a special deal rather than more boxes worldwide will be released. However, it remains to be seen one way or the other. 😉

Really great conversation. It's nice to hear that the team is being very conscious of the matrix of product availability and desirability. All I can say is, it's far, far better to have not enough product and people clamoring for it, than to have too much. As Rudy says, as soon as no one is asking you for product anymore, you've killed your game.

@@TempoLOOKING Yeah, watching it now and literally just heard it haha. While his wording was a little concerning, what I HOPE he meant was that we might be seeing a print run of 150k vs, say, 100k for Beta. We don't (and probably won't ever) have numbers for Beta, but 100k is my educated guess based on Rudy's allocation being a little over 9k boxes.

@asaffin1 For now...yes. They need to wait 2 years unless they could die. The game needs to be expensive in order for the game to have value. With the recession I want 400 per box. Look at Magic now. If Magic could fail...what protections does Sorcery have. A black lotus is what...500. Yugioh had 10k cards at tournaments. At high school our players if Magic had 5k decks average to 15k decks. To complete with Magic it needs to be an investment. It can't compete against cheap games as there too many.

There is definitely enough product for the community size. Sure it’s hard to get as CCGs should be, but there are still tons of boxes around and printing more without a big players base it’s setting it up for failure (Monarch 2.0)

We just say Simon and Erik's interview and even though it sounds like they are going to print more AL than beta, we can't know for certain. Also, they are trying very hard to balance getting cards into the hands of players and having cards that are collectible. I think we need to see what happens before counting AL out.

I think a great idea for supporting their content creators would be for the team at Eric’s curiosa to make custom metal coins used for determining first player. One side would have unique sorcery related art and the other side the creators logo or something like that. Then distribute the coins to the creators so they can give them away to subscribers/viewers. “Call it in the air, Eric’s Curiosa or Cardboard Guide”

I hope he answers the questions he never gave me the chance to ask: Why was a one set per year model chosen? How do you assure stores and the community that this model will keep them profitable and engaged? Due to the cost of using hand painted art, how will you stay profitable using this model? What factors were taken into consideration when you decided on a Beta print run? What hard targets do you need to hit before you print more Beta? What was the cause of the Beta delay in Canada, Europe, and parts of Australasia? What internal challenges did you face? What are your current plans to grow the player base? What are you doing to incentivize stores to carry Sorcery? Where do you see Sorcery in a year?

What is the logic behind not releasing print runs? FAB community loves the transparency, Grand Archive, who does it best, is beloved for being forthcoming immediately. MTG is despised for not releasing numbers ... Knowing these community trends.... Explain the logic behind the decision. Safe travels Simon. Also, sad to hear Ira is leaving, everyone in the community loves him.

If you don't say anything about the print run, you don't disappoint as long as everything gets sold in the market. For example if you tell everybody the print run is 75k. Alot of people will be dissapointed because the expected print run is 50-60k. Maybe some people over react and this could crash the 2nd market. Say nothing about the printrun is the best strategie buisness wise in the current market situation. FAB crashed after they released the print run of monarch 1st edition.

I think you’re very wrong to characterize releasing print runs as strictly a positive and withholding as strictly a negative.

@@peterwalzer8163 Monarch crashed because it was Uber hyped up already, people withheld stock, then numbers released and people dumped AND the print run was a gazillion times higher than expected. A lot of things came together to create that bubble and crash, it wasn't simply a matter of releasing print run numbers, or even just them being larger than expected. With regards to Sorcery, if the print run is 100k for Beta, and the market has absorbed it all, that's ok... Supply and Demand will level any market, if Monarch had the demand for that print run, then it wouldn't have crashed so badly, but it was a false-limited supply and a dump after an Uber-hype and FOMO.

Interesting point at the end on the beta opening and then noticing that maybe they turned the dial too much. Wish I could get some of the good side of that dial.

Yeah, I was happy to hear that they were monitoring the situation around the Beta boxes and the collation. I think the team is keeping an interested eye on a lot of things regarding product, consumption, gameplay, etc. to see where and how they need to adjust. Thanks for watching! 😉

Some exciting things and interesting tidbits to hear from Smon. My only critique is I wish you could have asked some more questions that were a little more challenging to him and the company. One of the main and major questions I wish was asked would be having him touch on and address the card quality issues that have come up. Even if you didn't ask that question, I really wish Simon would have touched on that. Even if he just acknowledged it and said, hey we're aware of a these issues and we're working with the printer to make those changes and address that going forward. Or something to that effect. But other than that, nice interview guys!

Hi there, thank you for the comment. We had a lot of questions, but we had to cut some due to the length of the interview and what we felt would create the best pace and flow. I think he did touch on the issue of collation in Beta, and I think that is one point that has been on the community’s mind. We like to have a good balance between asking stuff, like the Beta delays and reprints, that we feel must be mentioned, and some more free conversation. I agree that Simon shared some interesting things and I hope he picks up your question and address some of the quality issues. Thank you for checking out the video and leaving a comment. 😉

I think, and I stress we are just thinking out loud here, that at some point we will have a Revised set with different art and maybe without certain cards. I would be a good way to get some of the “core” cards into the hands of new players, but for now there are loads of Beta singles available -and affordable. 😉

I would not be opposed to that, even though I enjoy the simplicity of having just precon decks and the booster box. The precon decks also somewhat solves the Sites shortage. Simon also commented in our interview that they are thinking of a a product for draft/sealed, which should help the lack of sites. Thanks for checking out the video, we really appreciate it! 🙌🏻

My question for Simon, if he can answer it, are there any plans internally to release a digital version of the game onto places like Epic or Steam in a similar vein to MTG Arena? I know we have TTS but would really like a coded version of the game that helps you learn all the intricacies of the game's rules as you play it.

I think the company even before delivery said that the demand far outstripped the supply, but it also seems to be a regional thing, and Team Covenant still has supply.

@@TempoLOOKINGspeak for yourself. I didn't have faith in it for a second. It seemed like unoriginal nostalgia-bait from the start, and an obvious pump and dump effort from Rudy. Sorcery may be backed by him too, but it's also been picked up by the much more principled chaps at Team Covenant, and I think the core game design has way more merit too.

Simon. I know this has been mentioned before, but would like to at least add to the voices of this opinion. Seeing how you want to keep it collectible and are weighing options to get more players. May I suggest or ask if a revised "non beta" reprint is a talking point? Then both collectors and players get some of their needs fulfilled at same time.

I love the ideas of set binders but think it’s a shame to see the sites go into their own seperate binder. Any collector I know wants all the cards from a set in the same binder. I would like to see them using landscape pockets for the sites but contain them within the main set binder.
