This channel done so well since you began. Well done Sorin.👍🇮🇪 I built your design (well the one you use here) of a load. Had no resistors so I made my own out of the wire from an old electric blanket but you can guess what happened. Yeah they got very warm. I have power resistors I found inside an old TV in it now.. Works great 👍😊

Why don't you use an 18 watt powerbank module, which has everything you want!
@valichesu

Exactly, and the price is ~5$ for one with 22W. And you don't need the big buton om the side... I actually reused one module from an older powerbank to make one similar to what Sorin built. It has 5x18650 second life cells and works perfect.

Hi Sorin, missed you. nice to see you a new video I can get some ideas with. I hope you yould also make a video for a 12v powerbank that can be charged just by using a mobile phone charger. as I saw once in an online shop that there is a (12V) 3S LiPo charging module that can be charged with a mobile phone charger. I can't get any info about the type of chip or board it is so I can tell you what board it is... Thanks again for another great video...

Thanks for this video my friend, I am sure that now when newest sodium ion batteries a power bank project can be more interesting. For the switch replacement a circuit with a push button instead or even a touch sensor with 3 secs delay in any of both cases the circuit must be made so only can be started is a load is connected to the power bank

Hello Sorin. Very nice video once again! Wouldn't be nice to add a tactile switch to activate the battery capacity meter? So it would be off, and when you with to know how the batteries are doing you would just press the tactile switch.

love these videos. 1S battery config is very DIY friendly. to make better thermal performance, I have found that by layering about 5-10 layers of copper foil tape on the enclosure and then covering that with thin black teflon tape (for max emissivity and insulation) helps draw heat to the outside of the case better. also, black plastic enclosures loose heat much more quickly due to radiative cooling, but if it is going to be placed in sunlight/dash of a car the black color is a negative. I think I will copy this but maybe do an all in one usb-c board (more expensive) and use old ipad 3 replacment batteries which you can cut up into 3 pieces. theyre very thin and have about the same storage as these high spec 18650s. i think theyre around 2-3$ each cell depending on volume/shipping. I think you could fit about 5-6 of them in the same enclosure with an all in one board (~12wh each cell!). also debating doing a series version and using an active cell balancer instead of a BMS. thankyou for uploading

Wires are little overbuilt 18 awg would have been fine aswell a switch that can handle 5 amps would have worked aswell, but im not a fan of 1s3p batteries in general would go for 3s instead cause its safer, and it is more efficient aswell
@Sorin_DIY
@Sorin_DIY 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. My old power bank has a 6S battery pack and it has a good efficiency. a 3S battery will have a voltage between 12.6V and 8.1V, so it will need a buck/boost converter to increase/decrease the voltage for fast charging to to 9 and 12V, no matter of the state of charge of the battery. it will be more difficult to build it.
@gackhuhn4868
@gackhuhn4868 3 ай бұрын
@@Sorin_DIY yes, it is more complex but a 3s battery is always safer than a 3p battery that’s why personally would always go with 3s.

For your big switch, replace with a small switch that controls a MOSFET circuit. The MOSFET resistance can be very small and thus be minimum power loss.

Why not use a tiny micro switch, with a MOSFET, or two, IRFz44n would probably work, using a logic level gate, just solder it to the battery, negative with a 400ohm resistor from gate to negative, and another 100ohmvfrom gate to switch to positive, and mount the MOSFET tab,(to220 psckage) to the largest heat sink that fits. If it runs too HOT🥵, use another MOSFET, possibly mount them to a aluminum bar, about 6 mm x12-15 mm, and long as possible, then mount small ic heat sinks to the bar with thermal adhesive or screws and thermal grease. It may require different fets with logic level gates, that will turn on with 3.3v maybe use a diode and capacitor to power on the fet, from the 5-12v from the boost converter. Using the battery to power on enough to make 5-12 v, the turn on fully using diodes to prevent reverse current. A smaller package get soldered to PCB is available capable of 15a, 400watts I have a bag full of them, can't recall what the gate voltage is. This tiny switch idea could be a money maker for someone, have jlcpcb , PCB way, or who ever make them and sell on ebay and amazon. Possibly have them make tiny switches also. They offer so many services and so fast as well. Doing metal 3D printing, plastic 3D printed, they can do anything. Having a small pin in a spring with a latch mounted to a pcb, with two pads to solder the switch to and the wires on both sides of the PCB. Then the switch mounts by drilling a hole for the 2mm pin/button, and glue the PCB to the case,or use tiny screws, However , you'd better off using micro switches available.

My question would be does the circuit cut out when the current draw is too low. Most battery banks I can find will turn off after a few minutes, and a few that turn off after 2 hours. Im trying to find one that will stay on with low current draw until the batteries are discharged to the appropriate level, which could take days or weeks.

Hi. This fast charge converter stays on continuously. Usually these types of individual modules remain active. A new power bank has all the features in a single circuit board and is designed to turn off to save energy.

Is it possible to build powerbank with NiMH batteries?
@pettahify
@pettahify Ай бұрын
Of course you can, but its probably not a good idea. NiMH batteries works best if they are fully discharged before you recharge them. So if you use only 50% and then recharge your powerbank and do this several times you will induce the "memory effect" in the NiMH batteries, which will reduce their capacity much faster than their advertised. So yes you can, but its a bad idea.

@Sorin_DIY
@Sorin_DIY 3 ай бұрын
Actually it's pretty simple and clever. to transfer more energy, you can increase the current or the voltage. increasing the current will heat up all the wires and components, that heat comes from all the power losses. increasing the voltage doesn't heat up the wires. It's the same idea in transferring very high voltage up to 25000V over long distances on high voltage poles. and at the destination there is a transformer to decrease the voltage and increase the current. you do not transfer high current, you transfer high voltage, for a better efficiency and safety.
