This! So much this! 👏🏼👏🏼 As someone who has built multiple online businesses over the years through massive learning and effort (and nothing quick or easy about it), I could not agree with you more. Definitely makes it hard for us too! Because we can either make videos that don't "teach" in order to get those views, OR make amazing videos with tons of great information that no one watches because the subject isn't "flashy". Being a youtuber is hard. 😅

Right? It cracks me up how all these gurus teach people to do that. Either, they have no idea how Etsy works, or, they do, but they don’t really want the competition. What they want is for you to click on their affiliate links, like and comment on their videos, and buy their over priced courses.

@@MissMolly3377 Yeah There is one I fell for who said to message her on IG and all she said was that my SEO was bad and if i pay for her course she can coach me. But there were typos etc. Now i’m my youtube feed it’s all her “testimonials” of the people she coached making $$$$ a month. It’s annoying and I’m thinking… if your running 5 or more etsy shops. One which sells hand made flower arrangements… HOW do you have time for all this extra stuff?

I love this. It fits into whether or not you have a growth mindset. I love listening to KZfaq videos while I work sometimes to hear things that I want to dive into later. Learning is a treat. We are so lucky to be living in a time when we have access to so much information. The only challenge is finding the right places to start. I'm way better at Photoshop, Canva, Etsy, SEO, coaching soccer, refereeing soccer, and running my own business than I was a year ago. Get a little better every day. Happy birthday!

I recognize quite a few of the channels I used to subscribe to in there. (insert sheepish grin here) At the beginning, it was useful for me to have those playing in the background while I worked, and every so often there might be a piece of something that would either be useful outright or provide an "I wonder...." moment. But if you strip away the thumbnails and the clicky titles and just write down a one sentence description of what their video covers, these channels have less than 6 topics that they cover EVER. And then if you dive into the content about what they say about those topics, each channel has a set of 5-7 bullet points for each of those 6 topics. That means they have less than 50 tips total... and they just keep rehashing them into slightly different packaging. But they'll spend the first half of the video talking about how important the topic is before regurgitating the exact same bullet points. Fantastic video!! Quality content as always!!

Starla, this is by far the most realist video I have seen ever on KZfaq! So thank you! As somebody who’s been working towards learning some new skills to be able to have a successful Etsy store, there is nothing worse than watching the short videos that promise to teach you so much stuff and, on one hand, they give you a little nugget or two of information, but having watched and learned some of the stuff being taught, there’s always something that’s missing from the video that makes the viewers go diving back into youtube for another short video on the next little piece of information missing . I love all your videos by the way, I think you are absolutely the best at explaining, and the most honest when it comes to giving information. Thanks! 😊

"Well, it depends." YESSSS. This is often my answer to most questions, too. It's human nature to want the quick fixes and easy answers, but so often the world and people's lives and businesses are so much more complex than that. AND, like you pointed out, you can't easily distill a decade's worth of knowledge and deep learning into a 5 minute video and expect the viewer to be able to understand a full decade's worth of knowledge in an instant. An ocean of knowledge vs sipping from a bottle, as you put it. I couldn't agree more re: short-form content vs deep learning. I've found myself leaning more into reading books recently, and the older I get, the less interested I am in snackable short-form content. Over the long-run, most short-form content is akin to junk food. It gets you that tasty dopamine hit and feels good in the moment, but leaves you feeling gross and full of regret if you consume too much of it. Starla, I appreciate you being a voice of reason and a fellow deep knowledge seeker in a world of so much digital junk food. 👏🏻

Which ever one it was it there was something different, REAL about the information you provided. I actually enrolled in your course and am an HA alumni. I just wanted to say thanks...................Between the education I've received from you and your counterpart Pam and eRank(I'm a pro member) I consider myself to be an Etsy success story (small scale of course) So many I've spoken to think you can put up a listing and wala............cha-ching. Yea right! My first active year I sold 1 item, then it continued to increase. That was 2020, fast forward 2024, I am only a few sales away from 1000. Anyone I talk to who is considering selling on Etsy, my advice is EDUCATION, TIME, WORK, PATIENCE, PERSISTENCE and I tell them about eRank and to watch all your videos.

Hi Starla.. I have an Etsy Ads question and would really appreciate your response. At what point, in terms of views and clicks, should I turn off Etsy Ads for a listing if it hasn't resulted in any sales? I currently have my Ads turned on for all of my 510 listings on my POD store since last 3 months with budget of $500/ day wherein my budget usage never crosses more than $35 per day. I have 119 sales so far.
@StarlaMoore
@StarlaMoore 5 ай бұрын
Honestly, there is no perfect answer. Etsy ads are a gamble that work for some sellers and don't for others. You have to make the decision for yourself at what point you want to stop spending the money, especially if they aren't resulting in sales. My suggestion-spend the time on Social Media driving traffic to your store from outside of Etsy. For me, that has already worked better than Etsy ads.
@Om-gg5tk

@@StarlaMoore Thanks a lot for your response. I just have 1 more question. When I check my Etsy Ads data for last 30 days for a listing, it shows 45 click but when I view the “Search terms and orders from this ad in the last 30 days” data, the clicks count only ads up to 22. So what am I missing here? Shouldn’t the click count in this section also exactly match with count on the section shown above?

I understand nothing is easy and everything takes time. But corces scare the crap out of me after being taken advantage of 1 too many times. The courses were shallow and just ended with paying more money... How can I find courses that will not be money-draining? Maybe a video on red flag keywords to look out for? I'm not asking for calling out or starting drama, but I always seem to hit a wall when I'm deep learning because it seems like the only option to keep learning is to take a course. Any help on that?
@StarlaMoore
@StarlaMoore 5 ай бұрын
I actually plan to do this. As a course creator, I had to run from all of my major mentors because most began turning in this "money focused" mindset, rather than a "customer focused" mindset. They taught this information AND ran their own courses with this predatory foundation. And as someone who started as a teacher and later moved into course creation, I always prioritized "teacher" over "profits". Every professional deserves to be paid but many only focus on "being paid", as opposed to a passion for teaching. I'm going to be creating a video about this soon because I have so many red flags people should look for, as someone who is inside a lot of these coaching communities and sees the ugly side. No way to contact the coach, no refund guarantee (minimum of 1 week), drip fed content that you have to "unlock", giving homework, requiring homework to qualify for a refund... I could go on and on. My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you've followed a coach for several months before investing. Not all coaches are right for all people. Everyone had a high school teacher they didn't like. So make sure their teaching clicks with your "learning brain". Not just your "social brain". @bykristinanicole is my favorite coach when it comes to her morals and values and the treatment of her students. We recommend each other because we share a love for teaching as well as a love and respect for those we teach.

I sell on another platform as well. The expert for that platform who I did have confidence in has totally destroyed my confidence in her. She recently came up with an idea to write listings quicker, you plug in words and phrases and the system writes it. (sounds like AI to me) I watched it though, cause like you I try to learn something new everyday. Then at the end, in order to get what was written you had to pay....................Really!!! @@StarlaMoore

I hated it SO MUCH that I dedicated all of my time into learning it, then moved on to work at the world's largest Etsy SEO company. I teach Etsy SEO because I remember how hard it was to understand the terrible tutorials Etsy made. I wanted to make it fun. 🙂

So what is your motivation for this youtube channel, couldn't you just create a super successful etsy store with your knowledge and make bank? Or is the youtube channel not for money?

I am a manager at the world's largest Etsy SEO company. This is akin to saying, "Why be a college professor? If you're so smart, why not get a job doing what you teach?" I am a teacher. I went to school to be a teacher. I've run multiple businesses over the years and decided to take that knowledge and combine it with what I already went to school to do. Yes, I get paid for it. But 100% of my KZfaq profit goes back into my channel, which is why my videos are all in 4k, we constantly upgrade mics, and we just renovated the recording studio. If you watch videos from last year, 2 years ago, etc., you can see where every penny of monetization goes. The difference is dramatic.

It's a video about the importance of learning and retention, no matter who you choose to learn from. Any channel that creates educational content about "learning" could be interpreted the same way. 🤷‍♀️ I dare say I covered a whole lot in this video about the importance of deep learning. Not sure how thats an "ad for my channel" anymore than my other videos are. Of course I'm advocating for my channel. But I'm also advocating for deep learning while encouraging abstract thinking, hence, the point of the video. 🫠

Most of the Etsy KZfaq "gurus" are here to sell their courses and affiliate links and 90% of them talk about Print On Demand... ZzzzZzzz no offense to you Starla you're one of the less push-y ones that actually provides pertinent and useful info and I'm aware everyone has to make a living somehow. I'm just pointing out this epidemic of Etsy "gurus" on KZfaq is a thing.

None taken! The thing is, if I did not have a course and I exclusively only made youtube videos, I would still have people requesting that I offer coaching in some form. I never liked the whole "course cash grabs" that were popular in the Ty Lopez days. But I did like teaching, which is what I went to school to do. After about a year of youtubing, people began asking me if I offered a course, and I saw this as an opportunity to exercise what I originally went to school to do: teaching. It was an amazing way to teach AND stay close to my Etsy community. ❤️ I really hate what crappy coaches have done to this industry. I'm actually planning to make a video about red flags to look out for when shopping for online courses.
