Hola Ana, The Mayo Ketchup sauce was served in the 1970's mainly with fried shrimp when I was living in Puerto Rico. Today, most appetizers are served with Mayo Ketchup or garlic sauce in Puerto Rico.

Hola, The original recipe for sorullitos does not call for butter or sugar. However, throughout the years we have altered the original recipe by adding other ingredients to suit our taste. Some individuals prefer the sorullitos with sugar while others do not. I only added the sugar for my mother, who passed away, because that is how she loved them. This recipe is really in her honor. I always keep two different batches in the freezer (with sugar and without) for my guests. This year I stayed in Puerto Rico for almost 3 months and they taught me the authentic method of preparing sorullitos without butter and sugar. As I mentioned earlier, everyone makes our cuisine differently and according to their taste. There is not right or wrong recipe. Have a great weekend.
