I actually figured out a glitch in Castlevania (on my own) which allowed me access to the 2nd castle. I was playing the Japanese SOTN and didn't know that I had to wear the rings and get the holy glasses from Maria. So when I killed Richter I used a library card right after I killed him. This didn't end the game, but teleported me to the library. When I returned, he was gone and I could teleport to the 2nd castle. Loved this video.

That was very cool! Loved the interview with Igarashi himself, I found his insight very amusing. As a game developer myself working on a Metroidvania game somewhat inspired from SOTN, I actually get excited when I see people find glitches and hope people will be able to break my game (just not quite as much as SOTN). I hope he understands that a lot of art is created by accident, and SOTN is a great example of that. I also found IGA's face very amusing when he was told that Romscout would love to play his next game and break it, he looked super nervous.
@DeathBringer7699 жыл бұрын
Mayo Chan He shouldn't be nervous about people breaking his next game, it happens to nearly every game. Part of the fun of games is finding the limits of the code, glitching, breaking it, etc. When developers try to quash every bug and glitch in their game they often end up sucking some of the fun out of it. Perfect example is in Skyrim. They left the trolls sending you to the moon, even though it was an unintended glitch, on purpose because they realized it was a fun. Fun trumps all in proper game design. Too many devs are focused on controlling the entire experience and get upset when any tiny thing outside of their pre-defined vision happens. Let the game breathe!
@animeloverxX939 жыл бұрын

Mayo Chan I've worked on programming / developing a small Metroidvania game as well and I totally agree. It feels great when someone figures out a trick / glitch that makes the game more fun. Better yet it's really cool to see people get competitive by trying to finish your game faster than their friends. I would hope that Iga feels the same way.

Iga is the Assistant director to SotN. He directed the second half of the game and contributed many things to the first half. Supposedly the RPG and exploration elements were his idea. Toru Hagihara is the other director, who directed the first half. No explanation has ever been given why it's a split directing job or if this was intented. Hagihara never directed another game again.

Koji Igarashi was wrong when he said that we did not need Maria Renard or the Sega Saturn exclusives to that version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and had I saw that request from fans of the series, then not only would I have included that in subsequent re-releases of the game, but that I also would have added even more monsters and bosses, most notably from the GBA/NDS Castlevania games, and maybe even some PS2 and N64 monsters and areas from those Castlevania games as well.

The glitch they show at 9:00 is completely useless. I've gotten past Death and kept all of Alucard's gear by simply using the dash-jump-kick attack to enter the room and shoot across the screen so that you don't walk in and never trigger the event where Death takes your gear. However if you ever enter the room again later on the event will trigger. I don't remember if death then takes whatever you have equipped, or if he just takes the Akucard gear. However as it's been years since I played the Playstation version, my memory isn't quite sharp on the matter.

If you are referring to the 'big toss', it only works in luck mode, because you have to lose more than 50% of your max hp in one hit to be sent through the air like that. If you play normally the Wargs don't deal enough damage even after unequipping all armor. In luck mode all of your stats, besides luck, will be lowered significantly which makes it possible.

Ben the "translator" is such a goon it's painful to watch. His Japanese isn't THAT good (interpreting requires higher skill than written translation). It's obviously accidental/a bad attempt at being 'funny' but by basic Japanese cultural standards, he's being rude as hell to IGA and it's cringe TBH, if he wasn't white he'd never get away with the messy way he's talking. Then he's adding swears and things IGA didn't even say to his 'interpreting'... he never said anything about 'cheating for instance, or that the game was 'buggy'. and another part that bugs me? (I believe, if it was the other guy I'll take this one back) He had the nerve to say "I only played the Japanese version" but he's using the NA names for items (crissaegrim, etc) when in Japanese they're completely different! I'm going for 100% on the JP version right now, so I'm particularly attuned to this. Plus, he didn't understand how the shield rod worked so he didn't really ask the question romscout asked, getting the 'the bug checkers probably didn't use it' answer. Plus, he keeps saying 'Rikuta' when Richter's name in Japanese is "RiHIta-" This is standard with German "ch" sounds, another example would be Otacon's JP last name being EmereHI, which shows this dude doesn't really understand how Japanese transliteration works, or at least doesn't bother thinking about it when he's talking to the man who WROTE THE FUCKING GAME IN JAPANESE. I wish they had gotten someone better, or at least put IGA closer to a mic so I could hear his answers better, since the ones I did catch were different enough that it was frustrating to watch this. When Romscout was offering to teach a trick to IGA, Mr. Doughy's limits really started showing, when he just couldn't explain (he sounded like a moron in Japanese there, poor IGA). Then he had the nerve to write his own fanfic of what they were saying after that, like he's all clever. Cringe, cringe, cringe! Romscout, you did a great job though, and it's really cool you got to do this.

@Bogard23128 жыл бұрын
Because they don't get much exposure to the language. On top of that, the grammar structure of English is way different to Japanese, so that makes it even more difficult for Japanese people to pick up. It's not that they don't want to speak English, it's that it would take a lot of effort on their part to learn it. English is also my second language, but learning it in my home country (South Africa) was a more natural experience than it could ever be for a Japanese person living in Japan.
