May 5th is Children's Day in Korea!
To celebrate, I wanted something special for my children,
so I whipped up some rice cake fish cake skewers, a yummy snack easy to make at home.
Not only do kids love it, but it's the perfect snack for adults when having a few drinks!
I promise the recipe is simple and easy,
so please watch this video and give it a try!
[ Ingredients ]
16 (about 200g) Wheat rice cake
4 (about 100g) Long fish cake
5 tbsp (35g) Cooking oil
1 big tbsp (30g) Mayonnaise
About 1 tbsp (11g) Sugar
About 1 tbsp (8g) Vinegar
About 1/2 tbsp (4g) Fine red chili pepper powder
Good amount of condensed milk
[ Instructions ]
1. Rinse the wheat rice cakes under running water, then remove excess water.
*Wheat rice cakes are recommended for this recipe since rice cakes might explode when cooked with oil.
2. Cut the long fish cake into 4 pieces vertically.
3. Mix mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, and fine red chili pepper powder to make the sauce.
*Omit the fine red chili pepper powder, or use paprika powder instead if it's too spicy for your child.
4. Drizzle cooking oil on a frying pan, add the wheat rice cakes earlier without any excess water, then lower the heat to medium and cook them as if you're frying them.
*Careful as the wheat rice cakes might jump out of the frying pan if the heat is too strong.
5. Once the wheat rice cakes are golden brown, add the fish cakes and cook everything until they're golden brown.
6. Once the wheat rice cakes and fish cakes are cooked thoroughly, strain all the oil using a strainer.
7. Place the cooked wheat rice cakes and fish cakes on a plate, pour the sauce, then drizzle condensed milk on top, and your dish is ready!
*It's useful to place parchment paper on a plate so nothing sticks.
*Add condensed milk according to your preference.
