Well Soul Eater NOT is a prequel to the original Soul Eater storyline. So of course the characters we love: Maka and Soul look a little different aside from the obvious art change but also because in this anime they are much younger compared to the Soul Eater anime and Soul Eater N.O.T. has a Shoujo genre with hardly any violence because it focuses on the N.O.T. class who can't fight at all with Tsugumi, Anya and Meme as examples which is why the art is different and more fluffy. This anime introduces how the DWMA system works when dealing with new students. The N.O.T. class can't fight at all since they are beginners.

Well I've read both Soul Eater and Soul Eater NOT!, but I've only watched all of Soul Eater. In the Soul Eater NOT! manga, its drawing style, as well as atmosphere is COMPLETELY different from Soul Eater. So as a stand alone manga, it's good, but not my kind of thing .-.

As much as I disliked the fact they made Maka and Soul so cute (gawd please STOP) the "I won't let you touch my meister" line still gets to me. HOWEVER, to the Soul Eater fans out there, the manga does not draw the characters differently. So go ahead and enjoy that one.

As much as everyone shits on Soul Eater Not, there is quite a bit of really neat stuff in it. Particularly the theme of how profoundly Maka impacts the main character. It's not even worth a cliffnote in Maka's life, but it's such a huge thing for Tsugumi. I really liked that. How something that seems so small and inconsequential to you can be a life changing moment for someone else. You never know who you inspire. To Maka it was Tuesday. To Tsugumi it was the day she saw what she could be. Anyway, it's not Soul Eater (hence the name) it's a completely different story (right down to the genre) that just takes place in the same world.

Or at least that's how I remember things.

I actually love Soul Eater and Soul Eater NOT! equally. They both have wonderful characters and storylines, and it's nice to get more background on some of the more mundane events at the DWMA, like the bazaar and the dorms. Also, no offense, but why do people hate the animation of Soul Eater NOT! in comparison to the original? It's not like fanartists use ONLY the original art style for their art; everyone has their own style. Besides, both stories are by the same author, Atsushi Obubo. Remember how horrible the characters looked in the first manga compared to the last? Okubo improved a lot, and he probably was playing with art styles when working on NOT!

I really like it. Not as much as Soul Eater but Soul Eater NOT isn't all that bad. I don't understand why almost everybody hates it. I read the Manga when it came out and yeah... I was a little bit SHOCKED because it was so different but I believe that is the purpose. It IS actually all very cute and everything but it fits with the main character. I think the creator (i forgot the name) just wanted to show a different side to Soul Eater and how it was before Soul Eater happened. It's still a prequel. And I like how cute it is, even if most people say, that this doesn't fit. It fits to the new main character, because she is herself all cute and everything, while Maka always was a very strong and sometimes dominant character but still cute. While Tsugumi is cute and strong in a different way. Also it's all not so dark. Especially at first, while Soul Eater was dark from the beginning but with fun in it, too. So yeah I think it fits very well and I really like the show and the Manga, even if I still love Soul Eater way more.

I love in books and movies/anime when the series moves on to different main characters but you'll occasionally get appearances from or mentions of a previous favorite character.

I understand why you guys don't like this spin off. But just cause its not the original? Its a spin off. Doesn't have to be. I enjoyed this series. Obviously not as much as the original but this wasn't bad. Felt like a Prequel on a new point of view. people complaining wanting more and more. And clearly the creator doesn't want to add on anymore. And when he decides to try. He gets bashed for something like this. I appreciate everything this series is. If their is a second season on this.(which I doubt since Japan has a habit of not making them) I'll be waiting

Sadly remembers that Death the Kid didn't show up as a student at Shibusen until Episode 6. But at least he showed up to uh make things symmetrical in NOT? And well, there was Liz and Patty
