A bit late but just bough and started this game yesterday and ooooh boy it *clicked*. Took me a handful of tries, but I managed to beat the horse yokai in the beginning! (I SUCK big time at Nioh, but I'm having a blast tho.)

@@antviper135 To me, it's a true Team Ninja game at its core. You are much better off being aggressive and punishing your enemies for the smallest mistake mercilessly.

However being good at endgame Nioh content borderline trivializes Souls games as someone who came from the Nioh franchise and then played the fromsoft titles.

@@chasegaetze4507 I mean at the endgame of the depths you kinda ought to feel powerful. There isn't much if anything above that, you conquered and mastered the game. Just like Fromsoft games if you reach max level and have all stats through the roof, able to 3 tap bosses and receive laughable damage when you're fully min maxing.

It makes sense to say that, Gozu and Mezu are the literally guards of the gates of hell itself.

I ran past Gozu after 1 death because he was a ln huge increase in power compared to the first enemy, skipping that popup. That led me to the tragic fate of spending 5 hours trying to kill every enemy past that point to beat the mission. I never played a soul or nioh in my life, so that experience will never be forgotten.

@@OofedOofer Nioh games are always the hardest in the beggining and the endgame in the new game plus modes.

@@SIC-zh3bl it is not necessary to go through all of them, there is a counter and for each next passage it is necessary to fill it with any missions and it is not necessary to clear everything.

I would argue that real Nioh starts when you first find out about the games, since Niohs experience is spiraling into its abyss So it begins when you hear the call

@@Castanzah True. First entire playthrough is kinda like the "pls don't hurt me" mode. Shit gets sadistic onwards.

I'm actually finding it hard to go back to the souls games after this. Yeah, the combat system is on a whole different level, and it works for me. The fast pace (once I got used to it), the stances, the magic, ninjustu, yokai shift, guardian spirits and soul cores. Did I leave anything out, haha?

It is in many aspects a soulslike, but combat is not really one of them. 1. Hard hitting enemies and bosses, check. 2. Moving slow while using healing item and healing takes 1 sec before activating, check. (so that healing should be planned of and not just popped) 3. Character speed and dodge speed affected by weight, check. 4. Heavy reliance on Ki (stamina) management to do good in the game, double check. 5. No map, not that it's really needed considering it's mission based, minimap circle exists only if you have sensors otherwise you can pretty much ignore it :P Those are just a few things that come to mind, i'm sure there are others, however i do agree that they have more things that differentiate them than similarities.

​@@klefthoofrobert787 best way to describe it is that when playing a souls game you need to learn to enemies moveset. When playing nioh you need to learn your moveset.

Only if you use heavy armor, if you use light armor dodge becomes a better choice

@@umcaraai6494 not always, even in light armor you blocks stops everything that isn't elemental which will block certain amount, if the enemy is doing one big attack or just finishing up a combo you can block it even with just 1 ki left sometimes dodge is better other times block is

@@just_bladeok2041 i'm talking about boss fight, they rarely do single attacks, but when they do, is more worthy try dodge and continue to attack than try to block and lost a good amount of ki, and just wait to recover and lost the window. On my vision obviously.

@@jaywalk4373 Just started the demo for Lies Of P. did a few runs of Cultic after the new custom difficulty update. currently making slow progress in Darkest dungeon 2. need to start the new update for Vampire survivors. and playing State of decay 2 & Grounded with friends. really looking forward to Lords of the fallen reboot. Actually like the first game.

@@jaywalk4373 Noticed you only made one video on Nioh 2 and a bunch on Wo Long. did you ever figure out how to Ki pulse in Nioh? because thats a very imporant mechanic that was really making things harder for you than they needed to be without.

You did it wrong

I mean, for the first playthrough you can easily do it with high stance, it becomes rough on other playthroughs if you don't learn how to switch and mix up your yokai abilities in between combos. High stance is really good cause most have horns that get cut off and usually high stance gets the job done + it takes a lot of KI away from enemies, compare it to low stance, it's just not worth it, low gives you better dodge but both ki dmg and normal DMG are sheit beyond belief, even if you attack quicker it doesn't do much tbh :P However switchglaive is different from other weapons, in that you HAVE to switch between stances to make it work.

@Klefthoof Robert yeah with NG+ I've taken the time to test out all weapon types, the Odachi was just too damn satisfying to use in first run, couldn't put it down.

Odachi in high stance is one of the strongest weapons, so yes that makes it easier.

Just like people don't like combat of souls game and like nioh combat more instead , just the same complaint but different game here
