I'll never forget the commander that encouraged me to drive a supply truck for the first time. He hopped into the passenger seat and tutored me on how to build nodes and where the best place would be to drop supplies. I think we lost the match because he was busy showing me something but prioritized my knowledge over the match. This game is a breath of fresh air, and I find it really cool how such an unforgiving game has such a helpful, wholesome, and often times hilarious community

Just adding on a few things: 1) Bushes are your friend (and foe): Bushes, good for hiding, and ambushing people. Always try to be near one, it might save you. (In short.) 2) TRUCKS: I swear to god, please return the trucks if you can once dropping off soldiers. It’s good to place them next to either Garrisons, or back at the HQ. We really don’t need a transport truck taking a tank shell just cause someone left it sitting in the capture point.

As a squad lead with over 200 hours in that role I say this is all solid advice. The biggest advice here though is in fact talk, communicate, even if it’s basic like “hey I see guys at heading 230”. Play your role, learn it, find one that fits and learn how to play it.

The most important thing for new players you have said is "This game has no Team Deathmatch". If you want kills go play BF or CoD or else. Nobody will be mean to you when you're new or when you can't talk, but never ever just go for kills, it's the only thing we're allergic to. It's a team game, Teamwork makes the dream work. :)

As a new player, I was surprised at how nice the community was and willingness to explain the role. We had a commander playing his second or third game in that role and a few other squad leaders were giving him point. I prefer medic or engineer but one of my pet peeves is when the squad leader abdicates the role and nobody steps up. One of the things that I do as squad lead is tell my squad is on Warfare, to maintain defense on our objective and let other units attack and then move up once the next objective is taken. I'll also make sure to talk to other squad leads and the commander about getting Garrys up on fall back locations as well as an OP for my squad outside of the Garry. My rule of thumb is to at least have 2-3 sides of cover with garrys and OP's to prevent us getting killed off spawn. On Offensive, I always set up the fall back garry and have an OP near the current objective.

Most heartwarming thing I heard when a bunch of veteran SLs showed a newbie commander the ropes was when one of the guys, after maybe 50 minutes, said in a glorious Scottish accent "Ya know laddie, even if ya still learning, ya don't have to do everything we say. After all, in the end we're just a bunch of wankers stupid enough to go Squad Lead. So bring your ideas, and we'll work it out."

I'm a HLL Vetran and I loved the don't create a Squad and abandon the SL position. I'm maxed out in Commander and Squad Leader but not in any of the Squad positions I am constantly getting into match and the SL will abandon early or mud game and nobody wants to step up which leaves me and then half of time nobody wants to listen. "Hey CO said our Squad has defend the last point" and then I got one dude with me waiting at the point and then 4-5 dudes still attacking while getting overran. Idk what's up with new players but the just wanna do their own thing 90% of the time and I contemplate leaving HLL and Squad all together. Great video though

Just tell 'em they have to listen to you, or you'll kick 'em from the squad, it helps a lot and sometimes they will even start to like you. And if they don't listen just really kick 'em from your squad once you have to redeploy, and keep kicking when they rejoin and don't listen.

Never fear about not knowing. Feel free to ask your squad mates they'll always be happy to help! Also, no matter how much time you have into the game you still always learn things. I have 400 hours into the game and I just found out you can use Q or E to rotate barbwire to fit into tighter spots where you otherwise couldn't place. (works on most things). And I still blow mind of players even with 1000 hours that you can HOLD Space to vault over objects with greater success vs slapping space trying to get over walls. It works a LOT better if you get into the habit of holding space.

You can use q or e to move any structure. Also, here’s a tip I’ve taught level 200+ players - for infantry squad leaders only* You can pick up your outpost the same way you dismantle other things: Hold F. This resets your OP timer, and lets you put it down immediately. Oh you just dropped your OP and then had to kill a dude immediately afterwards who now knows where your OP is? No problem, pick it up and move it.

One of the few problems with the Hell Let Loose game selection is joining a game where every squad is either full or locked. This happens quite a bit. That's why some people create an infantry squad and then change roles. They might not feel comfortable as the company commander; so, they relieve themselves of that role.

I love how cinematic and immersive it is. By its fundamentals, you actually have to move and communicate as an actual soldier in WW2. Not like COD that’s fast paced, or BF where you can just do whatever you want. The best is when your under heavy fire defending on point with your team on local chat. Hearing everyone talk In militaristic terms while bullets are flying past your head, hearing armor chug across the road spitting out smoke and everyone is freaking out. It’s crazy how there’s so many people communicating with each other when they aren’t even in the same squads, but we all have the same objective. Literally feels like your in a movie. Also you genuinely have to try so hard for so long to win. So when you do, it’s so satisfying. You have to earn it.

It’s a good thing to do when new, but sometimes you get lobbies where you will have to initiate the charge or the breaking factor of a stiff defense. I’ve played countless games where I find myself trying to get a couple people to push up or throw smokes. If you make people feel like they’re going to be doing a big thing they’re more likely to do it, Can’t remember how many times I’ve helped break a defensive line by getting a few blueberries or squad mates to throw smokes or cover me while I ran to take out a garrison or outpost. Really good rush of adrenaline when the moments after the take down you see your troops start to move into the gap you’ve just helped to create. Edit: spelling

I never intended to be squad leader, but I had to start to take it for two reasons: 1. nobody else wanted it; 2. the one who took never said a word. In my experience, a properly communicating team has a great advantage over a team that is not communicating, or not coordinating. Get a mic, and don't be shy to use it. I found the players really helpful if you tell them that you're new. I usually ask the squad to commend low levels; the better loadout the team has, the better chance we stand. Never act like a dork who just came from CSGO and brags about knowing everything. I'm over 40 and my reflexes aren't the best anymore, but I found absolutely great in this game that you can be useful and gain a ton of XP in some roles even without firing a single shot.

Awesome little vid to help out ways of getting things done, albeit my first 3 hours of game time were entirely spent as a squad leader, but that time alone, having asked questions that a commander and fellow squad leaders were happy to answer, and prior experience with similar games as squad lead, was enough to get so much satisfaction. Dying a lot less than expected, getting a lot more crucial kills to defend areas and garrisons, learning how to use allied garrisons and OPs to figure out where enemies are located, and then placing garrisons and your own OPs in locations to help push the enemy from multiple directions all come out so well in a game like this

The best tip, when you’re new, is to find talking squads. Silence is misery in this game. Enter a game, select a random squad, say ‘hello’. If no response, exit until someone responds. If the whole lobby is bad, exit the lobby and try again. Eventually you will have a repertoire of friends who will join you in every game and you won’t have that problem.

Definitely give it another chance, it's worth it. It can be pretty frustrating at times (mainly when your team sucks) but when you have a good team and squad it's amazing. Definitely my favorite FPS I have ever played.

It was like that. Until they put it on game pass. I'm a game pass player. But I'm a Hell Let Lose kinda guy. Game pass players typically run around like morons, attacking the objective with 40 guys. While the rest are actually trying to play strategically. Personally, I asked a lot of questions and listened to a lot of videos because I realized pretty quickly. I wasn't playing some battlefield game.

I`ve squad-baited a few times when I first started.😳 I would usually only do it if I waited for a minute or two and there were still no unlocked squads. I mostly did it because I was new and was aware that Squad Leaders are usually best for more experienced players and didn`t want to get yelled at for playing a SL at level 1-10. Luckily, I learned the game fast and have even volunteered to be SL a few times after our initial one left.

You're a lot easier to spot when moving around. I find sticking close to a wall and laying on the ground is a good position. Lay next to a wall that runs perpendicular to the wall the enemy is hiding behind. Don't run or crouch move to the position, you crawl on the ground and through any available vegetation. You can get close enough that when they pop their heads up to shoot, you can pop them at close range and get a lot of them before they figure you out.

One of the funniest things I've seen in the game is a group of noob engineers trying to reinforce a point. I was running supplies back and forth for them. They had a massive stockpile of supplies and so many defenses built that were completely useless. The enemy overran their entire defensive structure in about 30 seconds. It was absolutely hilarious, but that's how you learn.

I remember my first time trying the game I chose squad leader not really knowing what I was doing, I assumed I just made a new squad to start and play since the others were filled, when my squad slowly filled up I asked my squad mates what to so when stuff was going down and told them "just give me orders when need be, I'll figure it out" and slowly got into it and we did a good job, it felt cool having to switch between call channels and give orders to my squad and request supplies or artillery, it was really cool how supportive my teammates were too, I was expecting the typical call of duty comms.

If someone makes a squad, then wait for someone to join to only get out and change the role, I join the squad straight away, take the squad leader position and kick that person out. Of course, I'll be the squad leader for the rest of the match, but it's sooooo satisfying to do that! :D

The first supply truck is for the first 2 attack garrisons. You don't need supply trucks to build nodes. Ask your squad to leave support and engineer open. Go support off rip and drop your supplies at spawn (the one farthest away from the action). Redeploy as engineer and build a manpower (cuts supply box time in half). Set the other 2 blueprints before redeploying back to support. Your supplies should be back up. Now hammer both of the other 2 blue prints up to 95 percent. As soon as the are both up to 95% complete one of them. Your supplies should be back up now. Drop your third supply box swing your hammer twice and you are done. If you don't intend on building nodes go support off rip, drop supplies at spawn and redeploy.

Garrisons should be prioritized over nodes for sure.

Medics earn a lot of respect in the community because their class is one that sacrifices firepower for a unique ability to save your teammates. When you’ve got a medic who tries his best to revive (and patch up!) any of his fallen comrades instead of looking for kills, you have a team that lasts a lot longer in the fight, and a team that isn’t upset with having to redeploy every time they’re shot. Guys like you make the playing experience just as much as good Commanders and Officers, so keep up the good work bro :)

Ive played many shooter games, this is by far the friendliest, most communicative player base out there. As a newbie and still a newbie, every match I play, everyone is more than helpful with anything and very talkative. The Devs in HLL nailed the comms, where you can switch to talk to different players in different locations. I’ve been playing COD since the original mw2, and always being loyal to COD every year, this year I won’t be. HLL is an amazing game and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Whenever i'm squad lead, I don't force my squad to talk, yeah it seems counter productive but i tell them as soon as the match starts "its ok if you're mute, you see something, ping it and i will be your voice till you're comfortable speaking up" because some people genuinely are anxious to speak up and i get that, even got someone to slowly open up near the end of the match and it was a match we won by moving with Charlie Squad to flank and my squad of mutes was right there with me

Yeah, after I started getting comfortable, we needed a garrison but the squad leaders were more concerned about K/D ratio or getting into the main action so I jumped in to help the commander. I was nervous but it ended up being a good learning experience. I have left the squad leader position to re spawn as a different class because we couldn’t get anybody to be engineers. There is a big difference in gameplay when one team has a commander and the other doesn’t. I’ve had matches where we needed a commander and somebody jumped in that had never done it before and saved our match. It is nervous and it is a learning curve and it is difficult at first but once you start learning how to play, it changes the experience.

To be honest, Im not sure if discouraging new players from taking Squad Leader role is good, because then we have perfectly fine players lvl 10 that think they know too little to be SL and it lowers the open squads number and still kinda urges weary vets to play SL or even makes squads play without SL. Any SL is probably still better than none, in perfect scenario fully communicative, in bare minimum at least placing OPs. If salty veteran sees room for improvement, he can teach or ask the newbie to step down from the role. So, I would say, New Players, please dont be afraid to play SL, because it has good equipment (for different situations short range or long range set + a bunch of grenades), but more importantly you can have a great influence on the pace of the game for your team and squad - just place garrys and outposts. Communicate with Commander, gather informations from your squadmates, listen to advices from high lvl players; and it will make everybody's experience better
