Skinny of Mushroomhead talks about early influences, cymbal hitting technique, and the Zildjian sound. Fellow Mushroomhead member and percussionist Diablo chimes in on the cymbal setup. Filmed live at the Rockstar Mayhem Festival in Mansfield, MA.

+justinmason100 Slipknot are absolutely different level! :) Jay and Skinny have only same company, but type of cymbals no.. Jay has a lot of A Custom's and Skinny a lot of A Heavy's.. :)

in my opinion mushroomhead always needed a drummer like skinnys tech. I'm not talking shit but i think that every metal band needs a drummer with attittude

I actualy prefer Lil Dan over Diablo. like I like him hes a good waterdrummer but Lil Dan will always be the best on my opinion. love em both tho.

I'm not picking sides because I respect them both. Though I must state that I do LOVE Lil Dan's BSFUC era mask. I just love that zig zag mouth.

I love skinny's setup. I remember sitting at it at the Underground in sandusky. he let my friend (steve, in hell and fury) use his set, but he wouldn't let him use the cymbals :p didn't matter because steve had the same set.

I personally think diablo is a lot more clean and puts on more of a show, he should be the main drummer in my opinion.

How to not break cymbals, don't make them completely flat like he has them, and hit them with a J swing not like an l.

I’ve had cymbals in all kinds of angles, and only recently broke my 4 year old china, which I had very tight btw. It’s not necessarily only the angle that matters, but also your technique. Look up Anika Niles. Her cymbals are angled away from her.

I wonder if skinny is training roberto up as a drummer to one day step in for him fully... Skinnys got back problems and a bad hip and he might have to retire one day in the end... Maybe this has been thought out?

+Noah Allan Roberto seems more experienced than Skinny to be honest, i Roberto handles the more complicated stuff

If those problems do get to much for him I doubt skinny will be out of the band completely since he does so much behind the scenes and he might switch to water percussion full time

+Sean Kettler (Spazzmaster3000) Yes Skinny doesn't play the full set because he has hip problems so Diablo takes over for the last couple songs.

I don't know why skinny switches with diablo near the end of the show but it doesn't matter I heard it's because he has hip problems so he can't play the whole set without being in pain but that's speculation

He has hip and back problems. Plus there's some songs he can't play cause his hip prevents him from going too fast for too long, hence why The Dream Is Over is towards the end

Yes the main drummer is skinny the guy that started talking in the beginsignaal but there is a percussionist guy in mrh too called Diablo the second one that talked and they switch Some times

They switch towards the end of the set because skinny has hip problems and can't play a full set comfortably. Diablo is an amazing number 2

+Drummer4Liife Skinny can't do a full set for health reasons (Hip issues I think) so Diablo comes in for the major double bass songs

Javier Ramirez diablo is more a showman. He has the open hand style and the stick spins. He’s a great drummer and a great guy. Got lucky to meet him outside a venue and chatted with him for ages, shared some beers and all :P

Diablo just plays the water drums and percussion, Skinny is the main drummer and one of the founders of Mushroomhead, there is no way Diablo would replace Skinny on drums.
