👆 In this episode of Sound Like, Rabea & Matt try to recreate the tones of iconic rock band Muse BY Busting The Bank! Rabea takes on the role of Matt Bellamy, running through a killer Ibanez Axion Label, Friedman & Rift Hawker dual amp rig, along with the biggest collection of pedals ever seen on a Sound Like episode! Matt fills in the lower end by taking on Chris Wolstenholme's bass setup while also giving us some tasty piano runs from some of Muse's more key focused songs!

Genuinely couldn’t care less if you use someone else’s sig for someone else’s rig. A guitar is a guitar, sometimes artist guitars have features you can’t get anywhere because they all play these custom shop behemoths most of the time. Just get the right stuff!

Thanks for watching guys - we may definitely consider getting rid of the sig rule. But I’ll wait to see what Matt thinks too! I want to clear up one thing... so many people seem to be unhappy about the way we play certain riffs in sound like generally. It’s really important to make it clear that, neither me or Matt know how to play any of the songs, we have to listen to them on the stereo, transcribe by ear, dial in tone then shoot the clip. So we really don’t have time to stop and look up notation or tabs. It’s way quicker just to play it by ear! Sorry if that annoys some people, but it’s the only we can get through the amount of videos we have to shoot. As always, I love how much you all love sound like, it’s been a few years now, and we really appreciate all the support!

I've always thought that the sig rule wasn't just unneeded, it was backwards. People already know that if they want a "shortcut" to someone's setup, they should buy the guitar or amp or pedal with that person's name on it. A rule saying "Sigs allowed, except for the player in question's own sig" would increase sales of signature-series guitars beyond that player's own fanbase, by showing them to have a bit more versatility, and provide interesting content when something silly happened, like if the Ed O'Brien strat were perfect for Metallica or something along those lines.

The reason I like these videos is it inspired me to continue my guitar learning journey a few years ago plus watching the gear come together and see where it ends up close or not it’s really fun watching you guys play and having fun that’s what music is it’s finding a way to express yourself and getting out of the crazy world for however long you can play for. And the no sig’s for another’s rig I think in concept is pointless because as a guitar player I find whatever gear I think will get a specific thing or tone I use it for that, I hope you and Matt and the other anderton’s staff are safe and well cheers mate. P.s whenever you guys can start up the series, I think a Radiohead by busting the bank would be a great shout you guys did so well the first time I’m genuinely interested if more expensive gear will be better

1 - Get rid of that silly rule of not using signature gear, at least for the By Busting epis. 2 - Stop focusing on price for the measure of a By Busting episode. If a lower priced piece of gear is a better fit for a given task, then USE THAT, not more expensive options simply because they are more expensive. By Busting should mean "not constricted by a budget", instead of "let aim for the stars and see what we can come up with".

@00Resev
@00Resev 3 жыл бұрын
@@crazymindU2A You are missing the point. The point is not the budget, but the right gear for the job. On the by busting episodes they are focusing more on what the gear costs, instead of choosing gear because its the best fit, regardless if its high or low priced. One simple example is what they did with Black Sabbath. The without busting epi had literally the best gear for the job. The signature Epiphone Tony Iommi SG (with Gibson USA Tony Iommi signature pickups ). The signature Laney Tony Iommi 15W amp. A spring reverb, and a Sabbath inspired drive. BOOM! The right sound can be had for below 1500£. Aaaaaand they chose to do a by busting episode as well..................why?... It didn't sound any better, and it was expensive for expensive sake. And that's the point.
@crazymindU2A
@crazymindU2A 3 жыл бұрын
@@00Resev hi, thanks for your reply. I get it and I agree there's no need to be price-conscious with unlimited budget. Now, after giving it a thought, if a sig falls into the price range in 'without busting', yes, it shouldn't matter. Thank you for explaining this.

Exactly! It’s sound like, not look like! Additionally, a lot of pro players use other artist models live as well due to being friends, getting them as gifts, and just liking the piece of gear! For example, Eddie Van Halen isn’t the only pro player that uses EVH signature guitars, amps or pedals. So to dial those users rigs in for ‘sounding like’ the person should be looking at whatever it takes, especially with busting the bank!

Hey guys, awesome as usual. I just want to throw it out there that Muse's bassist, Morgan Nicholls, just had his new signature bass pedal out called the Bass Butler, which he loves so much he's literally ditched his massive rig for gigs now. It sounds beastly and so does Morgan. If you're unfamiliar with him and his amazing bad tones, check out Senseless Things - Easy to Smile and Vent 414 - Fixer

I think you can abandon the sig rule. If you're on a budget or there's no budget, you're always gonna go for the best guitar for the job and the price range, you're never gonna consider whether it's a signature model or not.

Sigs are awesome. They are the answers to the questions like "if only [brand x] made a guitar with [outlandish options], that would be cool". Usually signature guitars have a one-up on their brand counterparts.

Re: the sig model. Chad Smith of RHCP had a sig snare when he played Pearl. Is that what he actually played? No. He played a Yamaha Jimmy Chamberlain sig snare. So if you want to sound like Chad, you actually need Jimmy’s sig snare. Just goes to show that sig models aren’t necessarily relevant to achieving a desired sound.

I can remember Matt playing a Yamaha pacifica with rust on the strings...and a solid state laney amp back in the days of TCC at Mount Everest. Also recollect he used to have a EVH music man covered in gaffer tape. I do like watching these vids but also think Andertons need to bite the bullet for busting the bank, Surely you need a Manson guitar for this or When you did Edge, the Edge signature strat. I think surely if the guitar sounds good for it, why not use it for busting the bank why not use any guitar you see fits the bill it you want too... but I don't really think a Ibanez fits the bill for Bellamy although he probably had one at some point but he also had a 200 quid Yamaha with rusty strings which to be fair was a superb guitar for the money.

I agree. Surely they know somebody with a manson that they could borrow and a fuzz factory. Matt bellamy did use ibanez back in the origins of symitry tour. But for me this video didn't sound like muse at all. No plug in baby? What a cop out.

I've really gotta say keep the "No sig for someone else's rig" rule but the only exception is probably if the guitarist has used or does use a signature model of someone else: like Paul Wiley from Marylin Manson using a Jim Root Jazzmaster or Joe Bonamassa using a Steve Morse Musicman, and even Richard Z Kruspe of Rammstein using a Kirk Hammett signature ESP back in the day also, Who the frag uses a pick to play hysteria on bass?

Matt has always annoyed me by confusing 'sounds like' with 'looks like" when he mentions stuff like a guitar is the right colour etc. But he stole the show in this video. Some serious piano skills. Respect. Definitely got the Muse vibe in this one. I am Gen X and ended up liking Mom's boomer music most, like Sabbath, Zep, and Floyd etc. Maiden, Dio and Priest later on. Muse is one of the only post 2000s bands that really caught my ear. I think they are brilliant. I really like the fusion of styles. They can do electronic music, classical approach, but still rock and create an atmosphere that makes me feel good.

For a lot of the early stuff a Fender Tele is a good shout, Matt only started using his Mansons 2001 onwards - so a lot of OoS was tracked with other guitars. Musewiki is a great resource to find out about Matt's gear!

shazam you finally did Muse by busting! let's hope these notorious blockers don't cut out these great sounds, time for my verdict New Born - keyboard could've been more muffled, bass was fine but the guitar could've used more octave, i'll give it a 3/5 Supermassive Black Hole - Very close but the guitar probably could've been a tiny bit more fizzy, still this will get a 4/5 Hysteria - bass really needs more fuzz, synth and fingerstyle but the guitar was close, could use less reverb, i give it a 3/5 Knights of Cydonia - i dunno, it's supposed to be played with the whammy bar and it's more octave fuzz, i give it a 1.5/5 Knights of Cydonia (Solo) - much better in my opinion, bang on like the recording, i'll give this bit a perfect 5/5 Psycho - this time you got it REALLY close to the recording, way to end it on a high note, i'm gonna give this one another 5/5!
