What does the soundgoodizer do? What is the soundgoodizer in FL Studio? These are common questions, and this video will show you how the Soundgoodizer in FL Studio really works, and how it's affecting your music.
A lot of people are using the soundgoodizer without really knowing what it does. It's probably one of FL Studio's most popular plugins. But most many people don't know how it works or what it's doing. The soundgoodizer is a native FL Studio plugin that tends to make things sound good. The way it does this is by using compression and saturation among other things, to sweeten the sound. The soundgoodizer is actually built on a preset from another FL Studio plugin called Maximus, which is a much more advanced multiband compressor and saturator plugin inside FL Studio. The soundgoodizer however is much more easy to use since it's mostly just a one-knob plugin with 4 different presets. These four presets will change the sound, applying more compression and saturation to different frequencies, either the highs, mids or lows for example. This will often provide instantaneous results, making things sound good within seconds, and this is probably why it has become so popular among beginners.
It's actually not complicated at all. So, if you want to know how the soundgoodizer works, then watch this video, and you'll find out everything there is to know about the Soundgoodizer from FL Studio.

I know exactly what you mean. It can be quite confusing. Music production is really 3 different things. 1. The actual production process: Recording a musical Idea and working with the actual notes. Using plugins and effects, laying out the arrangement/structure of the track and so on. 2. Sound design: Making sounds from scratch 3. Mixing and mastering You need to know something about all these things, and it's not easy at all. It can be quite overwhelming. Being a music producer is probably one of the hardest things to do, considering all the things you need to know. As if all of the above was not enough, you kind of need to know how to be a promoter, a photoshop expert and DJ at the same time. I will try to cover all these things eventually, but I have limited time on my hands so I can only manage to make one video pr week at this time. :)

Thanks! Glad to hear that I've been helpful. If you have maximus you can load up the presets and studdy dem to see how the presets affect the various frequencies. If you don't have it, then you can see it in this video as well where I show all the presets. You'll see 3 different bands in different colors, and as you can see the volume is higher in some of them. That's the part of the spectrum that's beeing boosted. So as you can see, the A preset is boosthing the high end quite a lot, and slightly lowering the low end, which makes it good for leads and such. The others boost the mids, and one boost more of the lows, which makes it good for bass. :)

Honestly, the better your overall mix is, the less Soundgoodizer will (seem) to do on the Master. You can sort of toggle it on and off as a reference. But yeah if you use any sort of compressor on the master (as many producers will do) it can "flatten" your mix and negate the hard work you've put into mixing each individual track.
@shy4real
@shy4real 3 жыл бұрын

I think the reason people meme the fuck out of soundgoodizer is the fact that its a 1 knob compressor, if you think you can properly compress a specific sound just with 4 presets and a dry wet knob, you are mistaken...
@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic 6 жыл бұрын
That's true. It's always best to fine tune the compressor and saturation yourself. However, a lot of people use presets in various compressors, and a lot of people also use plugins such as the sausage fattner as well, while still making fun of the soundgoodizer, which I find that a little award. But yeah, compression isn't really complicated, and anyone who aspire to become a good producer definitely needs to know how compression works sooner or later. :)

@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic 6 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks! Much appreciated. Yes, I can. There's the "keys" plugin that comes with FL Studio which have a fairly OK piano sound. Not as good as some of the pianos you can find in various romplers and such, but still decent. I'll put it on my list :)
@SteveGilbertson
@SteveGilbertson 6 жыл бұрын
So far I've found the best results with the piano samples in FL's "Orchestral" sample pack for DirectWave. There are a handful of quality grands and electric pianos - some of which have many layers for each velocity, so the dynamics are pretty convincing. Of course you will also EQ, compress, and add reverb to tailor it to your liking.
@cody42693
@cody42693 6 жыл бұрын
The trick to a good piano sound is what has been mentioned already effects wise, but what I don't see discussed often is the release. Bring the release up a bit and your piano sounds will suddenly seem way more lively. Even adjusting the attack just a little, while also lowering velocity can sound amazing. Lowpasses and bandpasses can sound great combo'd with this as well.

i honstley use the soundgoodizer on the master channel for 90% of production time - i like having it on there while the creative process takes place - when im close to finish a song i take the time and go over each channel and delete the soundgoodizer on the master... helps me have "good sound" from the beginning, even when just jamming around
@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic 6 жыл бұрын
There's really no rules in music production. As long as it sounds good, it sounds good. You're obviously mixing around the soundgoodizer from start to finish, so whatever balance issues it would otherwise introduce you probably correct for in the mix even without thinking about it. :)
@xrenynthemusicmage6422
@xrenynthemusicmage6422 6 жыл бұрын
But... Why not the Maximus presets? They're exactly the same, plus you can actually edit them during the mixing and the mastering process
@VORTEKMusic
@VORTEKMusic 6 жыл бұрын
it just doesnt fit my creative workflow tbh. i go over the whole sound-mixing afterwards if i feel the project become an actual finished remix/track. dont want to bother while being creative
@xrenynthemusicmage6422
@xrenynthemusicmage6422 6 жыл бұрын
Sure, why not? But you need to understand that even during the composition process you tend to mix the instruments differently when your Soundgoodizer changes the behavior of different frequency levels. And if you then decide to remove your Master Soundgoodizer for mastering or actual mixing everything will sound totally different. So as Firewalk said at the end of the video: Be warned!
@VORTEKMusic
@VORTEKMusic 6 жыл бұрын
you can hit my page up and rate my mastering :D but i am aware of it and as said, i deal with mastering later on, and thats not just like "oh i gotta put an eq on the master and some compression" ... its work on each and every single audiotrack. obviously im not the master himself when it comes to mixing/mastering but i would say im pretty solid.

The only problem I have with 1-knob plugins is when it sounds JUST off, and I wish there was an expand option to make finer tweaks. I guess just making solid pre-sets for more advanced plugins would do the job, but I really want an excuse to use the sausage fattener.
@FireWalkMusic
@FireWalkMusic 5 жыл бұрын
Indeed! Very good point. I don't really care much for one knob plugins myself. I prefer to have a level of control. A preset can get you a long way. Even professionals often browse through presets to allow themselves to get inspired. Then they take it from there, and tweak it to perfection.

You're welcome. I don't recommend using the soundgoodizer on the master because the various presets boost various frequencies in a mix, and unless it happens to boost whatever frequencies that needs boosting in your mix, it will not be the right tool for the job. It's better to use maximus instead, since you get more control to fine tune.
